Great match, nice to see Mol healthy and using all the tools at his disposal. Not Swedens best match. Against either of these teams, no one can afford to not be playing their best. Great match all around.
Can't recall seeing David Åhman this upset, even with his partner. Don't want to read too much into it, but I think it's safe to say he really wanted this win (and didn't get it).
Ahman needs to work on the mental side of the sport. No team will play their best with this much whining going on in between points taking away the focus from the game.
La técnica de los suecos es muchísimo mejor además eso se ve reflejado en el ranking y en todos sus juegos. A ellos ganaron primer lugar en los olímpicos 🇸🇪💪🏻
I don’t understand why Norway consistently goes to defend the same space on the court, i.e. both Mol and Sorum setting up in the angle or line with the block/defense respectively. Can someone explain why they do this? In basic defense theory, the block and defense must cover different areas. I’m confused
In basic defensive theory, the idea is if you stand in the meat of the court, you can give up perfect shots because EVENTUALLY you will get on average 3-4 digs per match if you trust in your footwork and stay patient. at this level they aren't playing defense to defend most of the court all the time. The opponents are hitting and shooting the external part of the courts way too consistently and their vision might be too good to make late movements. Instead they play defense to set up defensive plays based off of consistent offensive plays the opponents make during the match (or based off of scouting) over time. This is why you may see them start out with basic defensive formation and it changes towards the end of the match.
I used to be confused by this a lot too. I think the attackers are so good, they can still hit angle when you block angle. So if Mol takes away part of the angle hit, Sorum has less of an area to cover to dig an angle shot and can have a higher chance of a dig. That's one theory I have. The other is that if Mol blocks, the attacker can still shoot over him, so Sorum being in the same place just gives him a chance to scoop the shot over Mol. AND I know on this team in particular Mol has the green light to guess and read and block what he sees because he may well be the best blocker to ever play.
