I confess to being one of the isopropyl alcohol dummies. And literally went "why did I just do that?" afterwards

Thank you! I spent so much time putting stickers on cover arts while working at GameStop, the least I can do now is show people how to fix those horrible horrible stickers!!

How did you handle games with foxing (in German: Stockflecken. I don’t now about a english Word). Books and papers became foxing many years later. I unterstand that is normal. Maybe i mean something differnt

While you aren't likely to see foxing on game manuals from iron content, you can see mold-caused foxing. Same methods would be applied here, break down the surface shell of the mold, then kill off the mold to prevent it from coming back. Sodium borohydride and a rinse does wonders for iron foxing, but book restoration is a whoooolllllle different thing too!

This makes me sad. Now I have to check all my games for mould, I know some of them was water damaged before, I've seen the wrinkly cover art before. Usually on games came from the UK. I don't want my other games to get infected with it...

Oh I know the feeling. Usually it won't spread to other games that quickly, but it's always good to check your games regularly and to monitor humidity levels if possible!

Can you save the case by cleaning it with bleach? To kill the mold?
@RestoreAndReplay
@RestoreAndReplay 2 года назад
Absolutely! I'll strip the cover art, manual, discs, and all and just have the empty cases. Those will get soaked in a mixture of 1/3 cup of bleach for every gallon of room temp water. Let them soak for about an hour, then be sure to scrub down all the surfaces (while wearing gloves). I use old dish brushes for these! Once they've all been scrubbed, give the cases a rinse and dry them off. (I tend to dry my cases because air drying can leave water spots). That mixture of bleach and water is good for about 24 hours, after that you'll want to dispose of it. So I tend to clean my moldy cases in large batches. And remember to keep anything moldy separate from all the clean items!

Hello this video might be old but how know ps4 games has mold?

The cover arts will look the same as in the video! Usually mold has a cloudy look to it, but it'll be a brown or green on the white paper. Same with the manuals. Thankfully the discs can't rot easily!

Ive recently started buying ps2 games and its very frustrating when i get them with the water damage. I had some with severe black mould, i almost threw up. I chuck them out but always get refunded then need to start again.

It can be so frustrating to find water damaged stuff. You can fix it, and kill off the mold, but that high risk means it's not always worth the effort, ya know? Health is a key!

I always recommend a shower. If you always have something to do with mold. Even if you use gloves, masks and air filters

Can I use Isopropyl to clean the Disk from a moldy case?
@RestoreAndReplay
@RestoreAndReplay 2 года назад
I dont recommend using alcohol on discs, mostly due to the alcohol potentially ruining the discs label. For the data side you can use the same vinegar and water mix to kill off any mold. it's difficult for mold to grow on polycarbonate surfaces, most often a surface clean and scrub will remove the majority of the mold. while a vinegar/UV approach will kil off any latent particles.

Did you throw the Disk away, when you found mold on the Disk or did you clean it?
@RestoreAndReplay
@RestoreAndReplay 2 года назад
I don't throw anything away! Even these moldy cover arts actually ended up being kept (mostly to monitor mold growth if the migitation processes were to have failed for some reason)

@@RestoreAndReplay How did you surfare clean a disk? Did you use just a microfibre cloth or more? Did you mean cleaned like in the other videos did you make? In you videos did you removed scratchs. I mean disks they come from a moldy case, but the disk himself is no moldy

@@gamefreack64 For any dirty discs that just need a wipedown, I'll wipe them down with a damp cloth or a cloth with a mild disinfectant on it. I made a video on how to quickly clean non-moldy discs! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-E7kF0EmNOwc.html

I disagree with your recommendation to throw them away. What I like to do is grind up moldy water-damaged cover art using a pestle and mortar into a fine powder and use it like a fine table salt. Really adds some umami to dishes. It's a nostalgic type of flavor. Anyway, I've got to get going. Running a bit low on oxygen for my respirator so I'll have to go pick some up. Thanks for the video old man.
