Moldova has recently uncovered a Russian-funded plot aimed at manipulating its upcoming elections and referendum on EU membership. Authorities report that over $15 million has been funneled into the country to bribe voters, orchestrated by pro-Russian oligarch Ilan Shor. This campaign of voter bribery is seen as part of a broader effort by Moscow to derail Moldova's pro-Western trajectory. Veronika Poniscjakova, the Deputy Director of the Portsmouth Military Education Team at the University of Portsmouth joined us on TVP World to discuss these revelations.

Let’s say Russia had taken all of Ukraine. To call Moldova a buffer zone between Russia and NATO/EU is totally absurd! Moldova is a tiny country. Ukraine and what would have been Russia controlled Ukraine already borders Romania, Hungary, Slovakia and Poland so Russia would have been surrounded by NATO/EU anyway and tiny Moldova wouldn’t have provided any safety. The invasion of Ukraine was supposed to give Russia a two for one. The plan was to come out of Crimea take Micaliav, take Odessa then sweep up to Transnistria where Putin already has 5,000 troops then g😢next door and quietly take the rest of Moldova. This was all part of his 3 day SMO!!
