1. Benchmark:
- Wet gas cooler, if S&T delta p lower than 0.25 bar, for air cooler 0.2 bar and outlet T lower than design T of unit 25C / 45C
- Higher T of wet gas has a major impact on unit performance & shall be lower than design every time
- Wet gas filter/coalescer: delta p lower than 0.25 bar, at 0.35 bar change the internal elements
- Adsorber: delta p usually lower than 0.5 bar, wet gas T lower than unit design, remember that increase of wet gas T largely affect adsorbent efficiency reducing the adsorption time to remain online
- Dry gas dust filters: delta p minor than 0.25, change elements at 0.35 bar
- Regen gas heater exit T: 290-300C & check the maximum recommended regeneration T for MolSieve loaded in adsorber to not be exceeded
- Keep the design regeneration time to proper remove water
- Cool the regenerated bed to design T.
2. Tips:
- If wet gas T increase by 5% the delta p shall increase by 1% & the time to H2O breakthrough decrease by 10%: decrease unit wet gas flow rate & cut stand-by step
- Wet gas flow rate inlet higher with 5% shall increase delta p by 10% & the adsorber time to remain online shall be lower by 10%
- Wet gas p increases by 5%: delta p higher with 7-10% & adsorber online time by 1-3%
- Liquid carryover highly impact on delta p & adsorber inline time shall be severely reduced
- Check if T increase after regeneration step start: if not look at regen heater & at isolation valves position
- If a strange persistent odor persists near regen KO drum investigate for amine/HC carryover
- Suddenly lower delta p through dust filter is an indication that internals are damage
- Increase frequency of changing dust filter elements than usual during normal operation tell you that adsorbent could be damage
- Remember that after adsorbent replacement it is normal to change more often the dust filters internals and make provision to have spare in warehouse
- Avoid suddenly depressurization of adsorbers especially for flow direction bottom/top to not displace/lift the adsorbent bed: lower than 4.0 bar/min depressurization rate
- For 3 beds system send the regeneration gas to adsorber which starts cooling step prior to regeneration gas heater, in this way you cut the heat requirements by 25-35%
- Pay attention that regeneration time increase if regeneration is done at higher p, with lower regen flow rate & T.
