Aloha Matt, a friend just sent me your video today. I have lived here on MOlokai for the last 10 years, after being on Maui for almost 30, and being born and raised on Oahu. I AM part Hawaiian, and have traveled all over the world. THIS island is the place that has become my "real" home. Molokai still has the Mana, the Spirit, and the resources to become as self- sustaining as it was in the past, as long as enough young people and kupunas, can remain connected in the spirit of the Aina with Kokua and Aloha.. and together rebuild, and learn once again, how to live in PONO with our Mother, Haumea, Earth, the Aina, and Akua. Mahalo Nui Loa for your mana'o, and for creating this film to share with the World. NOW, ten years after you posted this, I TRUST..the tide is turning back in our direction, and that the CALL to other kindred spirits, has been heard. Malama Pono, Aunty Maile Mu, Molokai.

I married a Molokai girl who introduce me to Molokai in 1985. I fell in love with Molokai, the people and example of what aloha spirit means to Hawaiians. Every year, I visit Molokai with the feeling and acceptance of ohana not just my family but the people who lives in the island. Ohana = Family stay together.

About 50 yrs ago I visited Hawaii on Oahu. I found it very beautiful. Now I see pictures videos of the island and am shocked how much of it has been develoed. I have never been to the other islands. I have never been to Moolokai. I see pictures of Molokai and videos and i see how loved and protected it is by its eople. I had always wondered why Molokai never got much attention. I feel its because its eople dont want development there. I dont blame them. They love their beautiful island. Im not from Hawaii but as a visitor I would show respect and reverence . I have always loved Molokai the most. It drew me in. Always protect your island.

This fills me with hope. I am a Haole from the UK but for whatever reason felt called to research Hawaii and its culture, history, language, etc. I would love to see the people reclaim their land successfully.

the devastations portrayed in this video, occurs alsoin panama. the culprits are the same as in molokai.since december, our water not only polluted, it is also rationed in panama city. they tell us that these temporary measures were taken because the rains caused land-slides that clogged the pumping station´s filters.not because defprrestation and mining, but because we have too much rain! tankz 4 sharing & teaching us! c king "pax tecum"

If we can do this starting with Molokai and do the same with all the islands of Hawaii before it's too late it's hard to stop modern progress but we should heal what is still left before it's nothing but a memory of how it used to be MAHALO NUI FOR THE AWESOME Video

Which was provoked by the US Government, it wouldn't have been attacked if the US Military didn't establish a base there, this also happened before Hawaii was even a US State, Hawaii was invaded by us. The civilization of Hawaii was doing just fine before it was westernized. What is considered progress by society isn't necessarily progress for everyone. Our environment has diminished as a result of "progress". The rest of the US could take an example from the practices of simplicity.

the term used is "self-governance." it does not necessarily mean that we create a sovereign government, but that our community have direct influence or final say in how our island and its resources are managed. there's many ways and degrees by which this can be achieved, some of which already exists. most frustrating for molokai is that the seat of county and state government are on other islands. our small population warrants us very little representation even in our own affairs. aloha.

Thanks to tourism a lot of our coastline has been destroyed by big hotels, mansions that no one lives in and golf courses, and the people never cared about it because both them and the government were getting tons of cash for it, now we are stuck with houses no one buyes and no jobs in the winter. And thanks to overfishing, our ocean has been depleted just so that big fishing companies made money

I think this is a good idea. I mean, stop demanding welfare from the US Government, grow your own food and take care of yourselves. I have family out there and they laugh that they don't work, go to the beach all day and get welfare and government housing. If you want to be self-sufficient living the "Pono" style, then go back to grass huts, palm leave clothing, no electricity, no cars, no education, no mom-and-pop shops and do your own thing. Pono = No Welfare.
