Mom files for Contempt against Dad but ends up finding out she was ordered to PAY Child Support 

Her disability pays minimal funds? We need to give her a raise.

How do you not pay child support for most of your child's life and then have the audacity to come to court because dad didn't pay for you to attend that same child's high school graduation, something you knew was happening years in advance and could have saved for?

What a selfish, entitled, awful person. Nobody is responsible to pay for you, YOU PAY FOR YOU. Good on the judge for calling her out and making it clear that dad doesn't need to pay for anything related to her. You want a ticket then get off your lazy butt and get a job.

He sounds like a really great dad. Teaching a child that nothing is free and there are other ways to miniumize cost.

She has audacity. She pays nothing despite him having their kid most, if not all of the time, yet she says he’s taking advantage of her?

Reading between the lines, she talked the kid into going to the ER to stick it to her husband financially and emotionally. Instead at 18 she stuck her daughter with a very, very big bill.

All we can hope is that the daughter dosnt end up a complete mooch like her mother.

Not everything is a lawsuit. Just because the mom and daughter don’t like what the dad does, doesn’t mean it’s contempt.

I almost laughed out of my chair at this non-custodial mom in contempt for non-payment of child support. She needs a tough attorney to educate her on her obligation on what she is to pay on her obligation.

The father's could be homeless and destitute and are still held accountable for life. EQUAL RIGHTS, apply them equally. Pure hypocrisy. The judge in this case did the right thing, but, other judges would somehow initiate the back child support issues if the tables were turned.

The father is providing all the financial support and care, while trying to teach his daughter to be a responsible adult. She is providing nothing, and still expects him to pay for airfares.

I don't have a lot of faith in Mom's disability. She can sure move her mouth and that means she can do telephone jobs like tech support or customer assistance

Hospital would not come after dad for then money. She was a legal adult and even though they can be kept on your insurance until they are 25 they would be responsible for any medical bills they had. That is why they mailed it to her and not the dad. Think people, think. Why would they mail it to her if he was responsible?

He was so wise to move and get the poor kid to move. She's so bitter it made her lose touch with reality. My mom took my dad to court when we were 17 to increase child support to pay for upcoming college. Of course the judge laughed her out of the court room, but in the process my sister and I were forced to attend and utterly humiliated for both of them. I still cringe 35 years later. I love my mom but a bitter and angry divorced mother with a vendetta is a horrific thing for children to be exposed to.

My ex-wife owes 9 years of child support since 2015. I have been raising our daughter since the divorce. She will never see a dime of it because her mom is a deadbeat mom.

My kids started working as soon as they were old enough. All of them saved up to buy their first vehicles. They also pay their phone bill every month and through twenty five dollars in every week that we used towards groceries. After they bought their vehicles they paid half of their insurance. This taught my kids that grown up decisions come with grown up responsibilities, and we have raised some financially stable young adults. There is nothing wrong with this father trying to teach his adult daughter. That many decisions come with financial responsibility.

The absolute GALL of this woman?! Dad, get your act together and take this outrageous woman to court to get every penny of that back child support you're owed. (Edit: Correction of my dreadful spelling of the word 'gall')

She files a contempt motion because he would not pay for her to travel to graduation (but he is not required to help with HER expenses). Then takes time to tell the judge that he takes advantage of her and he is a terrible parent, real class act. I can see why he had custody. She owes him child support EVERY MONTH since 2012 and he looked the other way. Unbelievable.

As an adult of 18, I don’t believe the hospital would come after the dad for non-payment. He didn’t sign anything when she went. I am quite sure Hope signed the papers in the hospital that stated as a legal adult that she would be responsible for any outstanding balance. Dad provided the health insurance so she didn’t have to pay $11,000 as dad did say that the insurance paid 90% of the claim. Perhaps the daughter should be grateful for that alone. Too bad the judge didn’t require mom to pay the outstanding child support that she owed. Classic example of a stand up father and a leech of a mother.

I’m on Disability I get a check for my daughter each month from my disability. She’s getting a check each month and keeping it.

So because she lives on 1k a month she thinks all financial responsibility is on dad. I'm not sure what she was trying to accomplish here but she just screwed herself 😂

Dad was being a good role model, just trying to teach his 18 yo a lesson. I have, now all adult children, so I’m well aware of the “I am an adult, so I can do what I want” attitude! It’s better the child learn responsibility while still at home, so when they go out in the world, they’re at least somewhat understanding of how life works.

If she was 18 and is the one who signed the financial consent forms, the daughter is the one who is legally obligated to pay it even though the insurance is covered by the father.

Outrageous mom wanted money for the medical bills which she likely had zero intention of paying. She wanted the bill paid to her and she gets to keep the money despite having absolutely nothing to do with the ER visit. And the dad is right. The kid is an adult. It's their bill.

The custodial parent should be receiving the child's benefit of the mother's Social Security disability to the guardian until she turns 18 years old. Why didn't Social Security disability pay him directly the minor child's portion unless the mother directed the office to do so. Plus most states don't garnish Social Security disability payments from the disabled person.

I strongly feel she’s been able to take advantage of her ex’s kindness and now realizes with their daughter becoming an adult it’s all over. She just couldn’t help herself just had to take him to court and publicly embarrass herself lol

I do agree with another person in the comments that Mom was trying to stick Dad with a big bill. I watched the Dad listen carefully, keep his emotions in check, and wait for his turn to defend himself. I'd say that carried a lot more weight than hearing Mom go at least 3 times that she only receives $1,000/month because she's on disability. The minute he mentioned Hope's SSI income, the Mom objected because she realized that might give her an unfavorable financial ruling based on hidden income. Nice work Dad.

If the child was eligible for social security benefits as her mom is on disability , and did nor receive it , did that money go to her mother ? Can he go after her for 12 years of child support based on the 2012 order ?

Mama's lucky she didn't have to pay ALL the BACK child support that she legally owed Dad!! And was I correct... did she want the dad to pay HER travel arrangements (round trip) for her to attend their daughter's graduation? Or was it for the daughter to travel to visit mom? Surely I am mistaken! Mom's the one who coazed daughter to go to the ER when she was feeling ill, versus waiting until morning! She should have had to pay 💯% of that bill... versus 39%! Love this judge! He was fair, no-nonsense and went strictly by the book, without ever raising his voice or changing his tone! We need more like him! I felt as if he was letting Dad know he had rights to LOTS of 😢back child support, alluding to the 2000 legal hearing/motion... more than once!! 😁 I bet Mama will think twice before she files another contempt charge against Papa! And she waits until daughter turns 18 and graduates high school to "get cute!"! I'd be curious to know what she contributed to daughter's school supplies & fees, clothing, purchasing a vehicle, tags, upkeep, registration, etc. When she was done running her mouth and it was finally dad's turn to speak, she disappeared from the camera view for a bit. Probably went to the restroom to get clean clothes/underwear! 🤣🤣 She's also (allegedly) attempting to poison the daughter's mind against the custodial dad who seemingly, has gone "above & beyond" f9r the daughter! She should be ashamed. The father of my two daughters rarely exercised his right to visitation, although we lived less than a couple of miles apart! He had a new wife chirping in his ear...who wanted him to pay for HER daughters' clothing, cheerleader outfits, camps, etc., their two weddings, their four-year college costs, but none to mine (her daughters were the same age, attended same school, etc.). He apologized to me and them many years later, when the hurt & damage to our daughters had been done! During & after a divorce, custody arrangements, medical arrangements, living arrangements, etc., must be in black & white! Otherwise, you are up the creek without a paddle! And it works both ways!!!! Mama was just about to get in over her head when she saw where the judge was headed! 😂 Lol!

Ok, if she is on SSD, she should have filed for her child. That check for the child would go to the father for child support. Under the mother’s disability income, the child should be eligible for Medicaid. If her income is that low, she should be able file for food stamps. There’s help out there, but you have to apply for it. There’s also Section 8 housing that is based on income- though often there is a waiting list.

Lady! Your child is 18 ! The time to drag your ex to the courts to milk and control him is over! From now on, the relationship between him and his daughter is simply a deal between two consenting adults. I have no doubts that he will keep taking care of her, but HOW and TO WICH EXTENT he does it, is not longer of your buissnes. Focus on your own relationship with your daughter, and the best way you can manage to support her

Left of it was 1100 and she feels that she’s not obligated to help pay on any of that and she hasn’t paid child support and he’s had physical custody of this child for two years.

my mom waited until right before i turned 18 to get my pops for back child support. problem was she abandoned me before i was a teenager and my pops new wife had proof of it. when the judge gave her a number she didn't like, she complained. so he dropped it down and did so every time she complained. this happened like 4 times so at the end he had to pay $600. he paid it off by paying $25 a month. she was so pissed and i didn't even see a dime of it. she used it to get drunk at the bar with my alcoholic step dad.

So shes coming after him for money for a bill he will have to pay anyway? Oh dear lol

She needs to be taught responsibility, financial and what it means to be an adult in the real world, including her mom.
