In case you guys didn't know, Eric is embarrassed by this EP because a lot of the songs are almost exact copies of Modern Baseball songs. Like listen to Re-Do and then listen to First and Ten. Modern Baseball actually found out about this and were allegedly upset about it but I guess they've made amends since then. So yeah, this will never be available on regular streaming and you can expect to never hear them play any of these songs live again. They don't really like to talk about it either.
I always found this so weird. Like we see in Best Buds, which was made like a year later, that they are actually capable of making great music on their own. I have no idea why they felt the need to plagiarize. At least they owned up to it, more than you can say about a lot of people.
I lowkey don't mind that these are blatant copies anymore because I have the closure of knowing that mom jeans as a band has grown, improved, and has found their own sound. I still think these all sound good, and I still think all of the original songs sound good, too, I would only feel uncomfortable listening if I knew that mj was still copying artists and their songs.
Honestly since mom jeans has found their own sound since this was released in 2014 i think this album is really good despite the ***heavy*** mobo and front bottoms "inspired sounds"
it was used as a practice album to see how they sound, they never profitted off of it and they also apologized to modern baseball for it. Wasnt meant to be an album they officially released, and they didnt lol
Here are the original songs for those who are wondering: 1. Re-Do by Modern Baseball 2. Hours Outside in the Snow by Modern Baseball 3. It’s Funny You Should Ask by The Front Bottoms 4. Broken Cash Machine and It’s Cold Out Here, both by Modern Baseball 5. Twin Size Mattress, Maps, and Swimming Pool, all by The Front Bottoms 6. Re-Done by Modern Baseball Modern Baseball and The Front Bottoms are top 5 bands for me, so this was pretty easy. I also love Mom Jeans, so this EP was a bunch of fun. Feel free to reply any I might have missed!
Wait I might be dumb, but It’s Cold out Here came out on the Couples Therapy split EP with Marietta in 2015, so if this came out in 2014 how did that work? Maybe they released as a single or something and I just don’t know, but I found that interesting
@@aaronsageser2883 It’s Cold Out Here came out on Couples Therapy in 2012. On Valentine’s Day 2013, they rereleased and rewrote the song as Phone Tag for a Valentine’s Day split. In 2015, MoBo did release The Perfect Cast EP, which might be what you’re confusing the year for.
@@gold_green2001 ohh okay. The reason I thought that it was in 2015 is because that’s what it says on Apple Music, so I guess it’s just incorrect. Thanks!
@@sang-jinlee9265 yeah, most if not all of the songs are very very similar to a lot of MOBO songs and front bottoms :( I guess they got together and just decided to push this EP under the rug which is a shame cause I love it so much
Its weird seeing this blowing back up mildly, to all the comments this has been talked about for a long time and mom jeans turned into a legendary band with a vibe that cant be matched. This is old lets just enjoy it cause it is fire 😉😉
So I may get the chance to briefly meet at least Eric Butler, and it’s my burning desire to ask his opinions of this album now, and ask if he would ever play anything from it in his lifetime because it would be my dream to hear this live.
The band doesn’t really play or talk about any of these songs because they are mostly knockoffs of some mobo songs. Apparently bren from mobo also got pretty upset about these and it seems like Eric kinda of got mad at himself.
First and Ten is just Re-do by modern baseball. Workaholics ending is just like It's Cold Out Here, they also copied that song in Jorts. Bad call is just Re-Done by modern baseball, and Fishtank is Broken Cash Machine by modern baseball. The only song that wasn't a Mobo copy was a front bottoms copy
@Dawson Ages there's a difference in covering a song, where you keep almost all the lyrics the same and just personalize the way you play, and copying it where you steak it's sound yet use your own lyrics and pass it off as your own. Mom jeans gave no credit to the bands they stole from when the released, which makes it worse. Mom jeans is a good band, but did only the right thing by not releasing it because they would've probably been sued if they made profit off it
wtf even the second song sounds like hours outside the snow by Modernbaseball but it sounds good ..................... they're probably just influenced by them
damn even the last song sounds like redone by modernbaseball but honestly I would do the same i have a band and when you listen to the songs I made they sounds very much like modenabaseball hahaahhahahaha
As I'm cleaning my house, I still fuck with this idrc. I thought this was a good ass rip off album. Not sure if that was the intention, but I do like the band overall and I'm ready for the new record.
ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hCL7qB8NUYM.html&ab_channel=BoozeN.Tunes check out 21:40 Eric talks about how it was not the intention but rather a direct result of them idolizing mobo. He went as far as to not listen sit down to Holy Ghost in order to limit influence from them. Im so bummed i missed tickets for the text mj show in denver
So yeah. From what I gathered from asking around was they had a hard time finding their sound when they formed, completely reasonable but they don't like this album circulating, I'm pretty sure they asked this dude to take it down but I'm not 100% but I think it's better if we respect the boys at mom jeans by gatekeeping this masterpiece... (MJ did mobo better than mobo)
I see why modern baseball was upset these are way better than their counterparts Also have you listened to Birks and stocks by mom jeans? It’s pretty dope another one of those unreleased/taken down projects but not sure why it’s not a official song
On a scale of "Wow this artist really wears their influences on their sleeve" to "key evidence in a copyright lawsuit" how blatant is the plagiarism here?
i wonder if they meant to make it a cover album but just fucked the entire process up and never fixed it. i cant see bart or eric purposefully ripping off from one of their fav artists
