I can understand your friend's sentiment about celebrating before the baby is born but personally I feel as though all babies, whether they live to 4 weeks gestation, 40 weeks or a full and healthy long life - deserve to be celebrated and acknowledged. Thank you for all the updates. I am proud of the effort the kids put in to try out for Juilliard. All good things though. Live just does have highs and lows. But they are all getting the exposure of the culture and that is super exciting. I definitely agree with you; Anna and Elijah (and Chloe!!) learned very valuable skills by shooting for a goal and giving it their all. It teaches them intrinsic motivation, discipline, and tenacity, which are SO IMPORTANT in the music profession. Anna and Elijah should be very proud of themselves for trying their best and greatly improving their skills along the way.

Love hearing your updates! Praying for you and baby!! So difficult to be in limbo like that. I wanted to say something in regard to being a pro musician. I’m a pro musician, and there is actually a lot more classical musicians can do than just get an orchestra job or professorship-or any other smaller pool/highly competitive positions. Musicians where we live on the west coast can make $8K+ a month just playing church services, weddings, funerals, solo or groups. $$ is relative of course, but one could also teach or do group classes.

Praying for you and your family 💖 I played French Horn and there were a 4 spots for the top band, so my band director had to be super picky. He told my lesson teacher that based on my audition, I made it, however, since I didn’t play loud enough, he gave it to another person. It was exciting and devastating at the same time because I had only played it for 2 years at the time, whereas all the other kids had been playing much longer.

Hope you are ok. I don't know you personally, but I do care for you and news of a baby is always so exciting with hopes of new person. Ive had 6 babies and I know how pregnancy is both joyous and stressful. Praying for you, sweet woman.

Awww I'm tearing up at the kids' disappointment. However, as a musician myself, I run into many people who did not go to conservatory but are still great professional musicians. I was accepted at Manhattan School but went to CCM instead for various reasons. After a few months I realized it was a WAY better fit for my personality and was grateful to find the place where I felt I fit in. I did not pursue professional music but have played community groups and some professional gigs in addition to an unrelated career. Your three cellists can find a new program together and it might be the best thing in the world for them. I love the Anna and Chloe duets though so am a little sad about this new development. It will be okay though...

To add another couple things, I don’t agree it’s dog eat dog. I would encourage all of us musicians to never let that be who we are because there is room for all musicians who are willing to put in the work-with heart and soul! The awesome lesson you are allowing your kids to experience is that is any of us want success, we have to welcome “failure” aka setbacks/missteps with open arms. Those who fail the most and learn from it and keep going, usually succeed the most!! You guys are go-getters!! 👏🏼

I didn't go to Juilliard or Curtis, and I was a successful freelance classical musician, doing things I enjoyed, making a comfortable living, until I personally decided to pursue something else. It is amazing that the kids who got into Juilliard get that experience, but it is not a full scale rejection of the ones who didn't get in. From what I've seen, Elijah and Anna are both better cellists than I was at their respective ages, and I made it into major music schools, and like I said, had a good career. Also, why not apply at Manhattan School of Music's precollege program? Or Mannes? Matt Haimovitz is teaching cello at Mannes, and he is an incredible musician and cellist, and an amazing teacher. So there are tons of options. I hope the kids realize that Juilliard isn't the end all and be all. You can be an extremely successful classical musician without Juilliard or Curtis, as Josiah knows. Manhattan is an AMAZING school with amazing programs and teachers, and Mannes is cool, with the New School connection, which is mindblowing-- such an amazing college. Anyway, from a former professional cellist to Anna and Elijah, I used to sit on panels for auditions to conservatories and youth orchestras, and I can tell you that you're both doing great. You are in just the right place for you, even if it doesn't feel like it when you get a rejection (from an extremely competitive school with four spots open, which is crazy). You both have fantastic teachers and if you want to be a cello player when you grow up, you can be. I have been really impressed with both of you and the progress you've made over the last year. :) Also, Enoch practicing in the background sounds really good! Amber and everyone, sending love and prayers about the baby. And such good news for Marc! Hurray!

Congratulations on your pregnancy! ❤ Have a blessed healthy pregnancy! I feel you. Having had only 1 missed abortion and am almost 42, I was very nervous with my 6th pregnancy now- especially since I had unusual weak symptoms. Also waiting for 2nd ultrasound on August 3. Baby is due a few days before Christmas. Beside my big bump my awful varicose veins are a "good" symptom. And since I'm gonna try for a homebirth, I have the midwife coming to check on me. So I was able to hear the tiny heart at 14+ weeks! I've sometimes felt the first moves around 15 weeks but not this time. It's just all exciting no matter how many times one was pregnant... Yes, Juilliard, mannes, and msm are the three best conservatories in nyc. Pursuing a career in classical music is definitely not for the faint of heart and rejection is inevitable. I got my bachelor’s and master’s in voice but now in digital marketing. So there’s so much you can do with your degree

I hope the results from the tryouts do not disappoint Elijah and Anna too much. Only 4 spots for cellos and many, many trying out for those spots. They are amazing musicians and there is always next year or the next school opportunity. They have such talent and share that with all of us and so many more. One moment in time having your talent judged is not a reflection on your abilities. So many factors go into a performance on any given day.
