My son and i use to buy 2 pizzas every payday and drive them to a overpass in Detroit and give them to the homeless there. Ever since our son died 3 years ago I haven't had the strength to do this. Seeing this video...i think I will start again. I miss you son.
Love Richard Gere and this wonderful woman who stopped to help! It hurts my heart that there was only ONE person to reach out to help him all day in NYC - and it was Karine, visiting from somewhere else. We can learn so much from her! We need more people like her in the world.
I love the feeling I get when I help those in need. I did this on my birthday and the guy's response touched me so much. It legit made my birthday way better.
If everyone once in their lifetime believed in doing 1 good deed to help someone & that truly from their heart regardless of how small the good deed was.there would never be any hatred in the world. There are many good people in the big world but then there is only a handful of special people that show it.Well done to the kind woman. She will be rewarded by the Almighty.

So sad that people look away when they se homeless people. I cant do that because they are people just like us. Thanks hero Lady for doing something ❤️ we need more People like you ❤️
Lunkis then you’re not walking by hundreds of them on your way to work. People look away because it’s too much pain to see - can’t take them all home - can’t give all your money - so they are homeless and you feel helpless every time you walk the city. I’ve supported the regulars for years and then everyone who hung out with me at work started helping them to. It was good to see others handing over cash or food or smokes if they were scrounging. One man turned me down every day I offered until I insisted. He was surfing the ground and garbages and spoke no English - eventually he just gave in and accepted my help.
@@dummyaccount4898 the car may or may not cost money, but kindness is costless to the one giving it. If you cannot comprehend that, I strongly suggest psychological counseling.
@@Fresno2550 right now, worse. Something about a pandemic, incipient depression and no jobs and all. For the few jobs currently available, significant pay cuts, loads of what were full time now being part time and benefits being not available for anyone not full time, leading to medical bankruptcies. No medical, during a pandemic, leading to hospitals going bankrupt and closing, still during a pandemic. Talk about maladministration of a soon to be third world nation! We handled the 1918 - 1920 influenza pandemic far, far better, even with 670000 dead! At least there, we did shut down businesses long enough - after one false start that worsened the pandemic and it finally ended due to the shutdown. Learn history or be condemned to repeat it in a far more painful way!
So many people saying how sad this was, how much they want to help the homeless. But do you know what's even sadder? The only person on the streets to offer any help that day. Was a visitor form France.
JGK 61 coult, You’re right, it is extremely sad! I don’t drive anymore because of my age & health, but when I did, I never passed up anyone that was asking for help. We’re supposed to give as unto our Lord & you never know, it could be angels that we’re offering help to & not even be aware of it!! We’ve had some come to our door hungry, thirsty & dirty & we never turn them away. Nowadays, people are scared of the virus, being robbed or worse, or that they want money for drugs, alcohol etc. We ask God to lead, guide & direct us & He does. If everyone would try to help; we would live in a much better place!! God bless you. 👏
Shows you how much integrity that lady has if a lot more people are like her the world will be a better place to live instead of a crappy 💔 world we live in don't be heartless and self-centred Be giving loving and caring all the time love Anthony ❤️💕💙
Such compassion only comes from a good heart... you deserve a gud hug, Karine. I salute you & yes, our world would be a better place if people cared for a living .. ♥️
It sad to see lots of homeless people living in the street and eat their food from the bins very sad when they got no families thank you for sharing your beautiful story. Bless you all thanks again
It's a great feeling to help some one in need and see their reaction. I have always tried to do this when the situations are right. The sad thing is I've notice more and more people scamming people and this has nearly stopped me from reaching out to those in need. I have been burnt a couple of times. It's a shame.
Sigh,....if only it was that simple, hey! Many people would simply take your help and a few months later would be back where you found them. That's just how it is. Note I'm not saying ALL people are like that.
That's what many people say, no matter how big or small every help counts. Wether it's money or your comfort. The thoughts of making that people also matters in this world could make a lot of difference. God bless this good compassionate people, this world much needed someone like you, thank you.
@gabriel gervais than I guess we can safely say we would do the same thing! I would even pull my worst enemy up. I'm getting tired though. Seems like kindness just a random smile anymore! And to me that's enough
Thank you for that small token of Caring for someone with less than what you had. I'm Homeless an I know I would have Appreciate your actions more then you know
To people, that live their lives helping others, this is not kindness but simply being human. We are born in Light&Love. Our soul knows nothing else when we enter the earthly plain. We share this inborn characteristic. ...naturally 🙂
it is an act of kindness. But is also our duty i believe. Most who choose to help others do it out of kindness. those who choose to refuse to help others do it out of greed, anger, and or because they are not kind people.
What does that tell YOU about New Yorkers? It tells me a million things: some thought he was ok and proud; some were in too much of a hurry for something they had to do to keep their jobs and their families fed; some were scared of him; some didn't notice him; and some may have been not nice people. Just like every other city in the world.
It isn't only New York, saw the same things in small cities in the US, as well as larger towns. The simple reality of life is, in the US, millions are a few paychecks at best away from being homeless themselves. I learned that one out the hard way. No jobs available where we were, nothing nearby, money and unemployment ran out, out of luck. Just as everything was ready to completely fail, including shelters, my "Obama phone" (wait, isn't now a "Trump phone" now?) rang to schedule a phone interview, then offer letter and finally accepted offer. Tax check money paid most of our move back to my home state, family the rest and a few days after arriving, I started my job. Went home, to hotel, to streets, to shelter, to hotel and to on the road to be homeless for a few days of the new job until an advance got me money for a hotel and everything went uphill from there.
One thing is true most people ignore the homeless do they don't have to feell guilty!!!! We are brother's keepers. We have so much and all we to do is keep it and not share. In Vegas a man approach me because he was hungry. He wanted me to go the restaurant with him and pay for the food. Instead I went in my pocket and gave him twenty dollars and he thanked me. My spouse wanted to know why I gave him so much and gave me a lecture on the possibilities of what he could do with money to which I replied I could not let anyone go hungry but whatever he does with money was up to him!!!! We all make choices!!!
I remember taking my son to New York about 15 years ago. As an 11 year old he was so shocked to see homeless people he asked me for some money and went out of the restaurant we were eating in and gave it to a homeless guy on the street. All he wanted see in New York was someone getting arrested which we saw, and to eat a chilli dog. Feeding a homeless man was a bonus...
Wow, thats right, you never know, the next homeless person you meet just might be one one of gods angels checking up on us to see how we are treating each other ❤️
Thank you Richard Gere, People need to wake up to this.. You're acting is spot on.. You did an awesome job in the movie, King David😊 Thanks, for Allowing other people to be aware.. Good samaritans, We need many more in this country.. No one, Needs to be homeless.. Shelter the homeless few.. Someday this could be you..🍕🍕🍕🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Aah. Mister Gere was so blown away that only one person helped him, because he normally encounters every homeless person he sees when walking the streets, and help him or her. Wauw. I many, many homeless persons are safe and helped! Thank you mister Gere. You get it..
Its not that people don't want to give. Its who do they give to? You can walk by 4 or 5 "homeless" people in a single city block here in Vancouver so how do you choose? There's also the fact that there are a lot of scammers out there pretending to be homeless and people are becoming more aware of that.
Give to shelters that feed them. Also they will love you more if you bring meals to the shelter rather than give them money on the streets. This is from a man who used to be homeless and stayed at the shelters. Also heres another tip: when they have signs that say, "will work for food," or fly any kind signs asking for help, offer to buy them food not money. You'll find many will turn you down. They dont need food they just need beer money. They have a resource for food if they turn down an offer of food. Those who accept the food are really just looking for help to survive.
A friend of mine Jez saves up his money and goes to a village in Nepal where he sponsors a few kids schooling and pays medical bills etc. He is great friends with the villagers and does what he can to help out. He does this about every 6 months because he chooses to.. How cool is that?
Very friendly young lady give the poor guy some food fresh healthy foods friendly lady very good give him some food very good healthy food thank you for sharing your beautiful lady very good thank you for sharing your beautiful story thanks again
I agree. .... if we all did something for a person who is down and out. We have enough and always can share something. I know what it is like to just barely get by. I have been blessed and never was homeless. But feel so sad for people who are homeless.May God bless them and hope they can find help.
Beautiful story. I remember watching Gere's film about homeless people. Reminds me of the saying, many have entertained angels unaware. I applaud Mr. Gere desire to learn about those less fortunate. I also applaud Karine for being the kind person we all should be.
When I lived in Hollywood, there was a `homeless` guy that would occasionally sit on the back stairs of the Hughes Market. All the drivers in Mercedes sports cars would pause to wave at him. He would smile and wave back. I finally decided to pause, and I got a close look at Kirk Douglass. He is a truly compulsive actor. Welcome to Hollywood, where the best and the worst of us start at the same bottom, and live next door to each other. Some of us don`t forget the lesson.
I live in Houston, Texas and what Karine did is something I frequently do when I go out to eat. If/when I go out to eat and I have leftovers, I find a homeless person to give them to no matter how badly I thought/think I want to or may want to eat them later. I hate wasting food. When I worked downtown, I would buy an extra portion just to give to a homeless person. I met a homeless man once who got mad at me because I tried to give him some money so he could get what he needed. I never did that to him again. I would see him around sometimes and give him food instead. I was confused at that encounter at first, but I did innerstand eventually. He was a nice man and since then I often wonder what became of him. I hope he is well. That was about 20 years ago and he seemed to be an older man then. I would also cross paths with a homeless woman when I was in high school. She would frequently spend time near the bus stop I took to go home. When I saw her she would ask for change, oftentimes while she had a bag of single beers hanging from her arm. Even though she did this, if I had change from my daily hustle, I would bless her with something despite knowing that she spent it on beer. I feel like once that money leaves your hand it is no longer yours and you have no control over how someone spends it. Not your business anyway, people get what they need regardless of whether you help or not. I'm in my 40s now and often think about those two people specifically despite them both crossing my path some 20 to 30 years ago. I say help the homeless when you can, you never know when or if you could end up where they are.
@@jameelakhan2036 I think it's basically because they are preaching a sermon to appeal to people's sense of humanity. Personally I think it's fine to help someone in need if you have the means, but a lot of us who are accused of being so uncaring are only one paycheck away from being homeless ourselves. Sure, there's a lot of people out there who could help someone who's destitute, but there's also many of us who simply can't.
I used to live in Houston and was homeless for years. Stayed in a shelter twice. Once right after having a baby and losing her to cps custody and another time with my 1 year old son. I have lived under bridges, in a tent in the woods, I've eaten out of dumpster pandhandled. I know what it's like to be homeless and I wouldn't wish that on anyone else
The amount of food the grocery stores, restaurants, and families throw away is disgusting and wasteful..When they can give the food to a food bank or to a place that feeds the homeless or poor everyday..People need to get their heads out of their butts and start caring about one another..To much is given, much is expected.. To much is given, much is expected, the Lord our God didn’t give you all that money to keep it for yourself, you are suppose to help others.... No one should be hungry in America, but I know a lot of children would starve if that didn’t go to school The free breakfast and lunch is like going to the most expensive restaurant...When you know better you do more..Some rich ppl are cheap as they are rich
There are good people who do this kind act. I used to be homeless and got some food from people. I now in turn offer them food money whatever they need...
That was a very kind thing to do, giving away the rest of her pizza. In most places where homeless people display signs (usually cardboard) they're hoping for cash & in a good day can make $50 or more. Unfortunately the ones "flying a sign" use the money for drugs & or alcohol so gift cards to fast food restaurants or food from anywhere if you want to help.
