Please remain respectful in the comments, my mom was kind enough to show up in a video, and I would want her to show up for more videos in the future. If you don't enjoy the video feel free to dislike the video or comment about how I could have done better. Thanks for watching, I can't wait to provide more content for you all!!!!!
dullscythe is about a song that wants to be a song but doesn't know how. it's trying to gain an identity, to be something more. to have purpose. it's also a great metaphor for artistic burnout. artists trying to make something, over and over. hashing out ideas, seeing what works just to throw it out and start over. until they get something that works. achieve a sense of accomplishment to just do it again with a new project. it is definitely a song that makes MUCH more sense when you know the reason why it was made.
Just stumbled across this looking for Porter reactions. I was expecting 'Mother' to bring out the reaction. Sure did. It's my favorite on the album. It was incredible to see live, since he opened the song with some home videos from his childhood.
i feel like "watching the water unfold" refers to crying, letting emotions out. "it's a feeling i want you to know" because the moment you sit with your feelings is when they can be let go, and it works simultaneously as a way to stay present. "now i know i'm alive"
You very well could be right! I had a different thought on it, maybe the water folding would be “waves” and the water unfolding (waves in reverse) symbolizes watching time go backwards and reflecting on the past. The lyrics seem very centered around the idea of wanting somebody else to see the things you have seen/went through. Also the lyrics “I put my pictures down, they’re not as good as the real thing” seems to refer to trying to feel that same magic you felt before but it’s just not the same as it was in the moment/past. Maybe this is totally off hahaha, would love some opinions
Love the content man you are very blessed. I just turned 21 and lost my mom in January to a sudden tragedy. It's funny I wanted to show my mom the song 'Mother' for so long but for whatever reason I never asked her to sit down with me and listen to it. I really regret that now because I have such a hard time listening to that song after everything that's happened. Just remember this, no matter what happens your mother will always be there for you and never take that for granted. Much love.
I am truly sorry for your loss. A loss like that isn't fair to anybody, but especially for someone as young as you. I appreciate your kind words and I'm glad you could enjoy my video. I wish you the best of luck friend!
I loved watching this video and to see that you shared this deeply meaningful album with your beautiful mom. You all listen to each other very carefully. I have learned so much from my four grown sons. It is a privilege when they share a bit of their world with me. All the best to both of y'all. Keep spending time together!
Thank you so much!!! I also have 3 brothers, and as I’m growing up I’m realizing that I should share more time and what’s close to me with my family. I’ve been somewhat tunnel-visioned on smaller, less important things growing up and sharing this album with my mom helped me realize how much she means to me. Thank you for the kind words! : )
This was one of the best reaction videos I've seen, it was truly a great ride to see your mom kinda vibe out as well as smile at some of the songs. Would love to see her reaction to Worlds and see what she thinks of the different vibes that record has :)
I heard you say you like worlds a bit more than Nurture and was curious what your favorite track on that album is. Mines either Divinity or Hear the Bells. Love your guys reactions and thoughts on this album ❤
I think any song on that album being a favorite is valid imo. My favs are Fresh Static Snow and Goodbye to a World. Both are just such bittersweet stories that still have that amazing production!
@@Quirkay I agree the whole album is amazing. I feel that Porter has his own genre completely. You don't hear anyone make stuff like he does and I feel that's what keeps me coming back to listen again and again
This is the type of video I needed and I didn't know, I was recently going through a stage of anxiety and after watching this video it was as if I had received a breeze of fresh air in the face that encouraged me to move on
Bro I cry so heard when you were listening mother, this like when I listened this song first time, I imagined the feeling of my mother understood English, thank you
I saw Nurture Live at Second Sky in 2021, and it was the best day of my life. I was surrounded by my best friends, gorgeous breeze off the Bay, and I never cried that hard in my life. I highly recommend watching the full set on his RU-vid, great video!!!
Your mom crying during Mother broke me - that song holds a special place in my heart as someone who's been estranged from my own mom for the last four years, and to see you share such a beautiful album with her and be able to connect like that is just so cool to see. Her willingness to be vulnerable in how she relates to songs like Mirror is a testament to why people gravitate to Porter's music. Wishing you both the best.
This is such a cute video and the inisghts were great too. It would be cool to see a worlds reaction especially since there aren't too many around on youtube. Very nice video
I think there are cuts from it that she would enjoy; Sad Machine, Lionhearted, Goodbye to a World etc. However, I do think there are songs that would not catch her interest like Fellow Feeling, Flicker and some others. If this video continues to perform well I guess we’ll see sometime soon!
Thank you for making this video! It allowed me to experience this album for the first time again vicariously through you both! I recently got my mom into Porter Robinson as well, and I want to show her this! I think it would be fun to watch you two react to a Nurture live set recording. The two official videos on Porter's channel are great, and the visuals add so much to the experience in my opinion!
Pacific cooler~ Also I love watching nurture reactions ... its so cool to see people feel the way I felt my first time listening. I nearly cried on Mother as well! I think its cool that your mom got to sit down and listen even though this isn't her type of music !
Wind tempos for me..was a musical depiction of natural perfection progressing to a greater great where in that imperfections become delicate charms!!! I love this one!!!!
By the way for what it's worth, i think the lyric "i can make something good" was added to give a little reference to the tweet he made in 2017. (it was for virtual self, his another project i suppose)

After a second in , I could guess that your dad ain't around and soon enough your mom will have to understand that she can't make a real man out of you. You need male figures around you boy. Peace!! And good luck!!
@@Quirkay If I'm not mistaken, I never put you down.I just been there that's why. And look, I enjoy your video, also a Porter fan etc. My comment might appear rude but it's an actual hypothesis aabout your situation.
@@michaelvenne9386nah, you are trying to put him down. Subtext is important, and you are basically saying that he can’t become “a man” if he doesn’t have a father.
