As a student with 10 years of experience, I thank you more experienced teachers for being my most favorite ones. Our teacher (unsure of her level of experience) used to work at an elementary school and has a baseball bat in her room for a situation like this. I heard rumors that teachers from the past had real guns to protect against the shooter. Risking jail for something that is unlikely to happen shows loyalty to your kids.

As a father i understand. That mom was not brave. Her family was in mortal danger of extinction and her children may have already been killed. She ran not on bravery but on adrenaline and instinct. When she arrived at the school and entered and saw police she would have taken direction and asked how she could help. As she said, there were no police visible where she entered so she was in charge. She assumed command. Really sad here where no one appeared to ever have been in charge until that small swat team got there and acted. Two days after this even my family was at our neighborhood middle school for awards and promotion. It was a very different day. I hope our local law enforcement are trained and prepared and their leaders know what to do and how unlike the little town in Texas. You were absolutely right when you said "Nothing was going to keep her from them and it's good to see love like that. RIGHT ON !!

Police could have let the parents inside to protect their own kids who can risk their lives for the sake of their own children instead of stopping them and could have watched simply by staying outside the campus. When more parents get in they all could have some how stopped that shooter and many kids would have been alive. I’m having tears when ever I think of this situation. I too have a child. Every day I pray and send my kid to school. Really these days are so hard till the kid comes back home safely. Pray for God’s protection on kids and send them to school. Make the kids understand that only God can protect them at any time. He is reachable at all times. Especially in times of troubles / danger in this world, Kids should call the Lord for help. Build faith. Prayers should be put back in schools. Only God can protect us. If God is on our side nobody can be against.

Her children were most likely safe once they were behind locked doors. The mother's actions in running to her son's classroom risked both the lives of the police as well as herself. Also, she made the classroom open their doors, which endangers the other kids in there. There is a reason why schools require doors to be locked and barricaded in cases like these. In my opinion, she only cared about her kids and opened the other kids in the classrooms to potential danger. I understand her worries, but it is selfish of her to do that because she wanted to assure her kids were safe.

When she heard gunshots, she said she heard it happen near her first son's classroom. I assume she led the threat there due to the noise of her running to her son's classroom and police trying to get her to safety. 2:11

I don't know about common sense.... I don't blame her for what she did at all. But she ended up with the best case scenario in regard to the sitation. Would we be seeing it the same if instead of successfully rescuing her children, if the gunman shot her or her children in the halls while she was going between classes or while trying to exit the school with them? Again, I don't fault her at all for trying. But there's a reason why they wouldn't want her running in, and even more so why they wouldn't want the chaos that would be created by all the parents of all the children tried to do the same. Again, I don't fault her at all for wanting to do it, but if the police let her in, they have to let everyone who wants in. And if they do that, move bodies moving around chaotically means more targets out in the open for the gunman. My comment wasn't a defense of the other actions the police took, it's saying that it's not rational to applaud actions that could have lead to even more death than we already saw. I can't imagine this mother would have ever forgiven herself if pulling her children out of the classroom into the halls with an active shooter caused her children to be killed, and while they might have been killed in the classroom, bringing them out into the halls directly put them into even more danger, even if only temporarily, than if they were sheltered in the room.

i 100% agree. my dad served as a marines sergeant in the gulf war. i was talking about this with him, and he says it pisses him off knowing they could’ve gone into the school to save those poor kids and teachers, however they did nothing but stand outside, whilst parents were probably horrified and praying that their kids were okay. knowing my dad, if he was one of those police officers, he wouldn’t hesitate to set foot in that building if it meant saving other people. it hurts to know that so much could’ve and should’ve been done during that time yet nobody was brave enough to do so.

Right on. Some good people served abroad and have continued to do so after returning home. Rick Rescorla is one among many who comes to mind. Unfortunately, too many abled-bodied adults seem to lack a sense of independence and initiative. Every single person has to decide on their own what constitutes a cause worth sacrificing their life and comfort for, but I cannot personally think of a more noble one than these men in uniform declined that day.

They had two drills before this shooting took place and we're telling them how to handle potential shootings. They I'm sure taught them to not go in because there wanted a bunch of deaths so they can take our 22nd amendment rights away from us All. Yess I’m Haitian and my family literally never lets us finish the last days of school and I’m now 25 and we still practice this because kids fight gangs sometimes show up and people just feel like you trapped in the school so anything goes

Also think about the part of her story where she was about to run out from the school. She said the shooting was still going on, which probably means at that moment a few of those babies might have been in the moment of losing their lives and if they police had been in there they could have done at least something to help. Funny thing about what you said my job was preparing manuals for texas university for police training and there's a section about active shooter were it mentions what you just said eliminating an active shooter takes precedence over giving aid to injured to prevent more potential victims. I read the manual and it really angered me how this officer's just waited outside. It even mentions that one police officer can enter the building of there is no support.
