When north Vietnam took over the south, people in the south lost all the freedom, houses, money, car, golds, etc. the communist sent the doctors and teachers, etc, to concentrate camps. My grandparents had to hide my brothers and sister because they are mixed kids (half American and half Vietnamese). My siblings and myself didn’t get to go to school because the communist took residency from my mom. My mom tried to escape Vietnam and got arrested. A lot of American people don’t value freedom because they didn’t grow up under a communist.

I've traveled around the world, which included China. When I was there I was careful what I said. Unfortunately many American's perceptions of the world are not correct. In China there is no freedom of speech. When touring Tiananmen square I was with a couple from Scotland. I pressed the tour guide to talk about the student uprising (remember the Tank Man) asking a simple question. The guide spoke indirectly about her experience as a girl and didn't answer my question at all. It is a Taboo subject. The one tourist from Scotland later whispered to me .."I was also wondering about that." So to have freedom of thought and expression is a not a right around the world. When I flew back from China I was relieved to be flying over Alaska and Canada because I know what this country means for freedom. Democracy and our personal liberties are overtly taken for granted by US citizens.
