The problem, one of them, with the Moment "tele" lens is camera shake. That's probably why Apple doesn't build one into their current iPhones and never has in the past (although they are working on a periscope technology for a longer reach to be offered on models in the future). I find the Moment lens is significantly softer and darker (less light) than both the native wide-angle and the "tele" lenses on my iPhone 12 Pro Max. But the real issue is that unless I mount the iPhone on a tripod, camera shake prevents a sharp image. YMMV, but I found I am actually better off digitally zooming the iPhone - or using my Nikon Z6 II for longer shots. There is a reason why cell phones have always featured wide, and very wide, angle lenses. The Moment 58mm makes that clear, no pun intended, to me.

I too tested the 58mm on a tripod: unacceptably soft throughout; very noticeable purple fringing

Hey David, dropped by via RU-vid algorithm! Pretty glad you did this video, I just got them 18mm lens for my iPhone12 and I must say I’m quite happy with it! Thinking of getting the 58mm now ! Good luck in your channel man!

Yea buddy.. it gave us some extra reach that we wont usually enjoy in our default iphone camera, but i cant say that the image is sharp from 58mm , still we can notice some zoomed in output but no dramatic rise in quality of image. I am sorry for being too open. It's just a subjective opinion ok. And thank you so much for a transparent review David. I really appreciate it.

Would have been nice to see the camera in the same position so you could see the zoom level with and without the lens in place.

I tried taking comparison shots using the 2.5x tele on my iPhone 12 Pro Max vs the Moment 58mm lens on the standard 1x wide camera on the iPhone 12 Pro Max and the results were that the native 2.5x tele was more "zoomed in" than the 58mm/1x. Trying to use the 58mm lens on the 2.5x tele camera gave me a more zoomed-in shot but an out-of-focus image. I was testing this on a stationary object approximately 4ft away from the camera. Are these expected results or am I doing something wrong?

4 feet away from the camera using the tel lens + the 58mm tele lens is not what that is for. It’s for capturing further images not close up. That’s why you are experiencing that problem. They state on there website that it’s compatible and give a crisp 4x zoom when put together with the tele lens

For me, softer and a little more blurry with the moment 58mm Lens. Are you agree ? Look at 5m15, the logo « fujifilm » is much Sharper with native télé photo Lens. I think moment 58mm isn’t as good as you say. Édit : same thing if you look the right corner on the orange bag at 5m18. Ok, you can have some bokeh, but i can have thé same and sharper images with Focos Free app I’m curious to see other test like in low light for example

Thanks for commenting Romain appreciate your feedback! It’s a toss up I get sharp images from both, however my main purpose for using the 58mm is for getting good portraits (when not using my Sony) as I gives me better compression than default iPhone Tele Lens plus the blur. Not only that the extra range it gives me.

@@davidsepulveda3869 I thank you for your answer. Could you post videos showing the interest of zoom x4 (moment 58mm lens + telephoto lens x2)?

Good stuff man, learned some new stuff. No idea external lenses were a thing for phones. Still though, A73>

Yeah no comparison against the A73. I do enjoy taking photos with my phone though, and now that I squired the fuji x70 it will be with me as a daily shooter too.

I have question I used to use this lens on iPhone 10 . Now with 12 promax ….moment lens is to be mounted on the top lens of phone or bottom lens . I tried mounting on top lens it gets blacked out half area … and when I mounted on bottom lens, product was coming in focus n out of focus … and I click my product pictures in sunlight .. eventually I had to remove the lens n click pictures without moment lens . Can u please tell what went wrong . As with iPhone 10 it used to work 100% fine ..

Did you use the Moment app, with which you can choose what lens it is shooting out of?

@@ramniksingh2949 Aww what a shame, hope you can find a solution! I went with the Macro Lens (for my mum to use as she loves Macro photography haha) and the Anamorphic gold flare one for now as I was unsure about the 58mm, but was hoping to get that next after I did more research on it.

@@jennifermeier3873 solution as of now for me is I am still using my old iPhone 10 with 58mm to do my product photography . Can’t use it on 13 promax . The guide from moment said some sets of 13 pro max have this issue … I have online store, so I do have to do product photography ..

Awful lens. Horrible chromatic aberration. I'm so upset with myself for wasting my money on this. Stay away from these gimmicky lenses. Also, the portrait mode no longer works on your iPhone when you mount these lenses and you can only use one camera at a time when the lens is mounted. I should have done more research before buying. Moment will never see another dime from me.
