i wonder if Katara has become a better bloodbender over the years tho. Whos to say she haven't encountered other bloodbenders. It's an infamous ability at this point thats been outlawed, maybe due to others starting to learn. o.o Im not saying shes at Yakones level, but i do wonder if she could be able to somewhat withstand it. She would certainly have a higher resilience than the others. Thats why im kinda happy shes not in the flashback. I feel like you'd have to put more focus on Katara trying to resist. Considering her background it would be weird if they just glossed over it. Idk what this tangent was, i just had some thoughts lol

@@lucyandecember2843 Minor spoiler for Aege. She was the one who made it illegal, and for her to get better at it she would need to practice it on people or animals, which goes against her character, i don't see that happening.

@@Spherrum No ik that, but just cause something is illegal doesn't mean there aren't people out there defying the law, and still learning and practicing. What i mean by "i wonder if she got better" is that i wonder if she encountered other bloodbenders she was forced to fight against, making her bloodbending better involentarily (just like with Hama).

@@Spherrum And again, just cause she was the one to outlaw it doesn't mean it couldn't be due to the fact that other people were starting to learn it aswell. It's possible that originally she planned to keep it a secret, but due to rumors spreading and others possibly discovering and learning the technique, she then made it illegal to practice.

@xInfoRaderx I don't think you can be naturally skilled in something, skill requires practice. But yes, at least the way the show presents this is that Yakone and his sons are a special bloodline of bloodbenders. But it is a bit more complex than that. Hama needed the full moon to bloodbend specifically because full moon gives waterbenders significantly more power. But someone who is naturally more powerful than Hama (she was very skilled and experienced, but not particularly powerful, her best move in terms of waterbending power is nothing special compared to what Katara, Korra and Unalaq can do during a day) may be powerful enough to bloodbend at any time without the full moon power boost. It comes with practice, Tarrlok mentions that it took him and Amon about three years to learn to bloodbend any time. So in my opinion, the best waterbenders we know can potentially learn to bloodbend anytime as well, but that will require a few years of practice on people or animals, and this is just not something Korra or Katara would do.

One of my gripes with LOK that firebender racism still going strong. The writers gotta get a little more diverse with their tragic back stories

@@wheybig2972 There's no racism towards firebenders, what are you talking about? We never see any firebender get mistreated just because he is a firebender. In ATLA, firebenders were despised, but not here, every bender were treated equally I agree with the "diverse back story", but "firebender racism" is where you are wrong

Yeah I feel like that was kinda lazy writing. We see the Triple Threat Triads, so there are earth and water benders who run with criminal organizations. Why did both Mako and Asami need to lose parents to fire benders? Is it an inside joke or something? Lol *spoiler* And then Amon's fake story. I get Amon wanted his story to be dramatic (and an excuse to hide his face), so at least that makes sense.

Contains spoilers about the season finale So that is actually a genuine question I had. Do you have to be a bloodbender to get out of the other person's grip, or just a stronger waterbender? Because, yes, bloodbenders are very powerful waterbenders, but theoretically, someone could be stronger and not be a bloodbender. In Katara's case, she hadn't bloodbent before, when she was attacked by Hama, but she did pick up on the skill very shortly after that. So was she able to get free because she learned how to bloodbend while Hama was doing it to her, or was it just because she was younger and stronger? Because I think a very popular theory about bloodbending is that to get free, you have to bend your own blood to flow normally while someone is bloodbending you. Now, I am pretty sure Katara wasn't consciously doing that, but yeah, this just makes me think. But since none of the Avatars were bloodbenders, I guess being a stronger waterbender is enough. The Avatar state might just be something else entirely, but Korra does manage without it. So it is probably more likely that it is about strenght. (Though she wasn't 'technically' a waterbender when that happened, so I don't really know. And neither is Mako. I don't know how he was able to shoot his lightning either)

@@gizemgonenc5342 The avatar state does change things. One could argue that Aang isn't strong enough a waterbender to resist Yakon without the avatar state but with it he is. But that would imply that it really does just come down to the strength of the water bender rather than their ability to bend blood. Maybe just being a stronger water bender makes it hard to be directly affected by bending, sort of like how Fire Benders don't get burnt as easily (sorry Zuko)
