Wonderful pollinator garden! 👍🏻 Does anybody know which butterfly bush (Buddleja sp.) is native to the US? Is it Buddleja Davidii…? 🤔

We found chrysalises on the house, chicken coop, and sadly, on the bumper of the truck. We relocated the latter but it didn't make it. The chickens ate the one on the coop. It's a treacherous life! Thanks for all the great information!

Thank you for all the through information! I do, however, have one comment. Monarchs in the west, particularly in Calif don't go south-they go west. They semi-hibernate along the coast in eucalyptus groves Perhaps you could do a video on the o.e. parasite and the particular danger of tropical milkweed. I had one hatch this year with deformed wings, and after looking under a microscope found the organism. Thank you again.

Awesome video! There was a lot that was recently cleared of all the milkweed because the owner thought it was just a "weed". I was devastated because the area was full of butterflies! I see this everywhere - I wish more people would look into the benefits of milkweed and a native habitat for our pollinators.

Great video! I added 4 large raised garden beds that i've filled with only milkweed. Then i'll plant even more around my yard with the seeds from my existing plants. This week I was visiting my parents and found some redwing milkweed. A rare variety that likes shade.

LOVE YOUR VOICE!!! You should be doing guided meditation videos! Loved this content! I bought a asclepias incarnata (soulmate) milkweed plant this year for my husband as I loved the name "soulmate" as he is mine. I think it might not be blooming as I only saw 1 flower so far which died quite quickly. There's a huge "pod like" flower on it now and I'm wondering if it's a seed pod? I may not have been watering it enough this year so maybe that's why not too many flowers? Seems to be growing quite wide and tall but not too many flowers yet and it's late August now and I'm in Ontario, Canada. I'll keep researching more about this plant and thanks for your video that was very informative!

Thank you for the great information. I like to garden in Northern California. I am sharing a comment re asclepias incarnata (i.e., Cinderella Milkweed and Swamp Milkweed). I purchased this plant from a nursery in Napa last year; I ordered another one last weekend. Here is the tag information from Monrovia. "One of the most beautiful milkweeds..." (i.e., this detail avail re Monrovia's info.). Growing conditions: Light: Full Sun / Watering: Keep soil moist but not soggy / Blooms mid-to-late summer / Average size: 1 to 3 ft wide and 3 to 4 ft tall / USDA zones: 4-9 / Hardiness: -30 to -20F. My plant survived an extremely cold and wet winter. The plant is starting to produce buds - flowers to attract the butterflies!

An awesome informative video. Thank you for all the information about different milkweeds Those things that you are calling milkweed bugs are actually a box elder. Generally not harmful to the milkweed, but it just makes everything look rather unsightly. I’m wondering what the proper name for what you call milkweed beetles is?
@GardenGateMagazine
@GardenGateMagazine Год назад
Milkweed bug is Oncopeltus fasciatus and box elder is Boisea trivittata. Thanks for watching.

Thank you so much for this Video. I knew already a lot about monarchs, but learned something new. I live a little south of Atlanta and end of April/beginning of May we had a Monarch in our garden. It had pale colors and was laying eggs on our tiny milkweed plants. Was that normal? Could the monarch have survived the winter here in Georgia?

I get a lot of milkweed bugs in early fall. I let them hang around or I’ll be drowning in tropical milkweed. I’m really trying to get narrow leaf milkweed to grow in my yard. I’m in Southern California.

Nice video! I have a question about whorled milkweed. I bought some plugs online, then later learned they spread by rhizomes? Are they aggressive? I got nervous and just stuck them in a pot.

It can be depending soil conditions and if it is native in your region. Your local extension office may have more details. Thanks for watching.
