I was a teenage boy when Facts came out. I was infatuated with Lisa from day one. I became a Christian my senior year in high school and that's when Lisa was ramping up her gospel recording career. It was so cool to me that Lisa was also a believer AND she was so kind and talented and beautiful. Shortly after this I joined the US Navy. I wrote a fan letter to Lisa telling her all this. I didn't expect a response beyond perhaps a form letter and a pre-printed autographed photo. Instead I received an extremely wonderful handwritten letter from Lisa's grandmother, who read all of Lisa's fan mail. She conveyed Lisa's appreciation and very generously thanked me for my service and congratulated me on my newfound faith. Sadly, I lost that letter in a natural disaster a few years later. But I can see still see it in my mind to this day and vividly recall certain phrases. Lisa's grandma must have been a wonderful person. Since that time I have always had the deepest respect for Lisa and her family. I am so happy that you guys are still such great friends. And yes, I still have a huge crush on Lisa. But it's okay. My wife still loves George Clooney! Love to you all.
Mindy’s smile always makes me smile. Great interview. Lisa was always my favorite after Charlottes Rae. 😊 I hope she gets back to acting one day & that they all make another reunion.
This is one of the best podcasts I’ve listened to in a long while. Not just because I’m a fan of Facts of Life and New Mickey Mouse Club as a kid, but I love how intelligent the conversation was.

Love this so much. My family was MASSIVE FACTS of life fans and we still tell jokes from the show. Lisa Welchel was a natural comedian ... "I've been DIPPITY DOOED!" The best love them all!

You are correct. Believers are to share the gospel. We can love other but we can not compromise. Jesus is as He said is the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Him (John 14:6).

I grew up watching Facts Of Life from the time I was 13. My favorite seasons are from season 2 to season 7. Blair and Jo's love/hate relationship on the show was great. Blair always made me laugh because of how snooty she was. All of the women are great from that show.
So excited to find this...now have a whole bunch of episodes to catch up on. FoL one of my favorites growing up! And yes, I'm guilty of making assumptions about Lisa. Knowing she had been a "born again" Christian, I expected her to be uptight and narrow minded...maybe at one time she was, but wonderful to learn how she evolved within her faith.
Being a young black boy I obviously had the biggest crush on Tootie but I loved Blair Warner too. Her name,her hair,her wittiness,and I grew up watching them on Nick At Night not even during their original run. Love that Lisa has expanded her views and began see things beyond the socialized confines.

I appreciate Lisa Welchel and loved The Facts of Life in so many ways. I am also a Christian. She's entitled to her path as she now sees it, but Jesus didn't leave any room for alternative paths to God. If that were the case, then He didn't need to die on the cross. Due to Adam and Eve's choice to disobey God, mankind fell. Ever since then, we've all been born into sin and, therefore, need a Redeemer. Our good works are not enough to earn us a place in Heaven, which is why Jesus died on the cross for our sins. Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. --John 14:6
I am sorry to hear that she said she believes there are many ways to get to God and not just Jesus. That is in direct contradiction of what Jesus himself said. "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes unto the Father except through me"-Jesus (John 4:16)
As someone immersed in church until I was 42, the first 8 minutes of this are GOLD! I get it. It is very nice to see someone with a similar personal theology to mine. Lisa expressed it beautifully.

We are almost the exact same age and I grew up watching 'Facts' as a teen and early twenty-something. I am experiencing that evolution as well. I am trying to learn how not to be 'of the world' (James 4:4) but to love humanity *in* the world. It's a constant struggle/growing process. Jesus tells us to love God with our whole heart, soul, mind, and strength and to *to love others as ourselves* and that there is none other commandment greater than these (Mark 12:29-31). What you said totally resonated with me. And Mindy! Love your personality, humor, and interviewing abilities. You seem like the ultimate best friend. God Bless you all.
Some gals have Sex and The City, I have FOL. All so different and yet all so beautiful, true diversity in love. We are at the age where, while things are dropping and sagging, we are taking the time and thinking through the big questions with honesty and perspective.

Of all the chaos and fakeness Hollywood brings, it's so good to see well-grounded and grateful people talking about the behind-the-scenes of a show and how easy it can be to fall into the trap of fame. I also watched some documentaries about TFOL and wished Mindi and Lisa talked about their difference of opinion about the episode where Blaire loses her virginity but Lisa backed out.
There wasn't a difference of opinion between Mindy and Lisa, Lisa wanted written out of the episode because she felt it went contrary to her Christian faith so they changed the script to have Natalie be the one to lose her virginity.
@@justmeiniowa Mindy volunteered Natalie to loose her virginity. Lisa later said she regretted her position then because she now thinks she should have voiced on the issue through Blair rather than hiding.
The four of you probably have more contact in real life than the girls do, but they would belong to a website for Eastland graduates and have a private group for "Over Our Heads." Is there any thought of just filming an episode like this, in character, reacting to Mrs. Garrett's death? "The Facts of..."
This is in regards to the question about evil. As I am writing this evil in this world is being taken care of. Evil is satan and it’s in the bloodlines. Hopefully, shortly you will be seeing what I am talking about because the truth on EVERYTHING will be coming out! Jesus wins!
Lisa was hysterical as stuck up Blair Warner, I thought her character was the funniest, and the most loyal to the rest of the gang. Charlotte Rae set the standard for excellence.
That was a great answer. Im reminded that in my dark comedy reboot adult facts of life, that after you all go on a madcap misadventure to stop Blair from losing her second virginity to a dastardly villain, in future episodes, as tootie is in NA for her drug addiction, she starts churching and ultimately grows short with lesbian Jo until Blair reminds her that following her heart is obeying gods will. That was the message of Welchels book and it was a good message. Besides, I gave Natalie the best line of the show. Calling the 2nd virginity meet up group the "jolly ranchers" club. (Everyone looks around puzzled) Artificial cherry! Natalie quips. Honestly, the more I think about it, the more I think you all should truly do it. I mean, you were all always capable of edgier adult comedy, and while the show was good, it was a little schmarmy. To be adults living together because life didn't turn out like anyone expected so you all revert to your safe space and the absurdity of you all living together would be a terrific show!
When you were discussing playing an evil character, you should have brought up the Facts dream episode where Blair killed everyone because they bought their clothes at K-Mart! That episode traumatized me back when it first aired, so Lisa must have been doing something right ;-)
Had I known she was single in 2012 when I emailed with her a couple of times, I would have asked her out. I never mentioned that I've had a crush on her since I was a kid.
guess what? you aren't the only pebble on the beach-- there's a BIG world out there and religions older than christianity-- it's just small-minded to think yours is the only way but it seems the tenants of some groups is to be as narrow-minded and judgmental as possible and worse, to be proud of it. That is called a CULT and it's good that Lisa broke out of that straight-jacket of the self-righteous, self-satisfied and holier-than-thou because some of the most inherently evil people have claimed to be christians-- and DEEP in your heart, you know it..
Yes that is sad that she is deceived. Because if she believes the HOLY WORD OF GOD. She would know that JESUS says in John 14:6 I am the WAY the TRUTH and the LIFE and no man cometh unto the FATHER but by me.

She has grown a lot since her divorce. She and I(a homosexual) had a very deep conversation in an airport of all places. She has a good heart and wants to learn. I’m so floored that I was able to make that connection with her.
@@nah....6151 i miss judged her based off her past. Religion was all she really knew and i was thrilled to hear she still has a deep faith but with a more open and willingness to learn. It takes a big person to get to that point in life. I think Survivor taught her how much one can grow when they’re out of their comfort zone.
@@gxs3604 Lisa grew a lot after her divorce and her husband left them almost broke. Ironically her first FOL episode as Blair was shaming Cindy who she thought was a lesbian. Lisa didn't even know the meaning of the episode at the time.
@@nah....6151 Telling GOD'S TRUTH to people is LOVE. The world doesn't know what LOVE is. JESUS came to die on the cross and shed his blood to save us from our sins and save us from ourselves. People's hearts and minds are desperately wicked. And we all need JESUS THE SAVIOUR!!! HE is PERFECT, HOLY, and JUST. HE is also full of MERCY and GRACE. HE also is a GOD of WRATH, JUDGEMENT, CORRECTION AND CHASENS, and DISIPLINES those that are HIS. Living in the lust of the flesh a person will die in the flesh. If a person wants to be saved from sin and be saved from self. Have Faith and Believe in JESUS CHRIST and repent of sins. When the HOLYSPIRIT comes and a person accepts CHRIST and surrenders their whole life to him. They will LOVE LIGHT and hate darkness. All sin is darkness and all sin in the end will bring forth death. JESUS and HIS SAVING POWER will change a person's life. HE will change their hearts and minds and souls. And they will not want to sin anymore. And when we fail him, the HOLYSPIRIT comes and convicts us of our wrong. And we will humbly come before HIM and ask for forgivess and we ask him to help us not to do it again. Each person has choice that has to be made. Serve JESUS or serve satan. We are to die to self take up our cross daily and follow him. There is no middle ground. There is no compromise. FOR JESUS is the only way the TRUTH and the life no man cometh unto the FATHER but by him. JESUS is LOVE and alot of people hated him and rejected him. And HIS WORD says that the world hated him first and that the world will hate us also. Come to CHRIST the giver of life. If a lost person does not come to CHRIST they will die and their sins will not be forgiven and they will spend ETERNITY in hell. There will be no excuse for the sinner when he stands before ALMIGHTY GOD on that day. FEAR GOD AND WORSHIP HIM! HE IS WORTHY TO BE PRAISED! Even so LORD JESUS CHRIST! FOR YOUR ARE A GREAT GOD AND A GREAT KING. HALLELUJAH AND AMEN!
