Claude Monet, Poplars, 1891, oil on canvas, 36-5/8 x 29-3/16 inches / 93 x 74.1 cm (Philadelphia Museum of Art). Created by Beth Harris and Steven Zucker.
Like many people, I enjoy the softness and colors of Impressionist paintings, including Monet. But until this video, I didn't know that he had done more than one series (other than Rouen Cathedral). Nor did I understand until your 'lecture' was that the various paintings were meant to capture a brief moment in the sun's passage through the sky. It will be difficult from now on to see a Monet and not feel a twinge of melancholy, imagining him on a small boat in the river as the sun sets once more.
