Same cardboard works just as well inside to cover floors, cabinets, fixtures etc. Small boxes work great for small fixtures. Plastic cups for door knobs.

Awesome! I love the format of this video where master teaches apprentice. Don’t get me wrong, I like watching you pros do your thing, but it seems whenever I try it myself, I unknowingly do something, or don’t do something, that gives less than desired results (like pulling the masker along the wall creating too much tension). It’s the little things that make all the difference. To see someone learning and getting correction tips in real time, I feel like you’re speaking directly to me! Love it! Keep it up Bumblebee.

Great video 👍 I always tell the guys I’m training up that the masking doesn’t have to look good it just has to work (straight lines, proper covering to reduce overspray etc) like in the video I let um know there labor to clean up overspray is worth much more then a little extra masking so don’t be shy with it lol

As a novice painter DIY my house painter, I have the mistake to buy the 3M 1000 masker. Spend the extra money (20-30 bucks) for this 3m 3000 masker Paint Life TV is using. Saves time and frustration.

I used to work in commercial buildings masking off huge windows everyday at least 30 windows a day for a commercial coating company ... painters basically ... used to use boxes of tape and. Boxes of that paper and plastic I love painting. Masking off is huge part of the job

Great videos. Do you have any paint recommendations for a basement floor? New construction unfinished basement. Were planning on leaving the basement unfinished and would like to paint the floor to hopefully keep the area a bit cleaner.

Shawn Mahoney use a water based epoxy if you want durability or since you’re just walking on it a good “floor paint” will do just depends on how long you want it to last

I tried switching from one once blue painters tape to the one once 2020 tape you guys use and it keep creasing as it comes off the masker and it all fell off of my stucco when I came back from lunch🤦‍♂️ so bummed. I’ve had trouble with the blue painters tape sticking to stucco and thought the #2020 tape would be better. Guess not.

In the UK the masking machine doesn't come with the little hanger, I had to make on out of an old metal bucket handle, why does 3m supply without this great little adaption in the UK

I really think the masker blade should be placed according to the tape being used because it lines up the blade with the tape and you can keep an easier line

I go to furniture stores,appliance stores, mattress stores, moving companies, and get big boxes. Cut them up and have laser straight edges to use as shields. I can make them super long/wide as I need them.

Just so you know the original patent for a tp dispenser shows it going over the top like stallone in the 80s. So the right way is over the top

A good tip. Over spray other than hitting the brick will dry in the air before landing.

I have a question, when you give an estimate on painting a home. How do you charge the customer by the foot or job.

I do by the square foot, and I will vary the $/square foot according to the difficulty of the job. I generally vary from $.75-$1.50 per square foot (for each coat) The easiest jobs are $.75/sq ft (sometjmes I’ll even go lower if there’s a ton of square feet involved but not much difficulty, such as a big barn). Jobs that are easy to access (flat ground, no roof-on-roof, ranches), and don’t have much prep work involved, are at the lower end of the spectrum. Jobs which involve uneven ground, steep roofs, 3 story) will be at the higher end. This system allows me to price both by square foot AND the job.

Great presentation. I found it works best for me to shorten the cutter adjustment to the next tape size down. That way, I can get that edge of the tape aligned in the corner better when pulling it out. The metal cutter end, therefore, doesn’t get in the way. As far as cutting, I don’t have a problem even though the cutter doesn’t cut the 1/8 inch of taped paper. It easily just tears at that point 😎. Paint life rocks!!

Line the "paper tearer" up with the size of tape... much easier to continue a straight line and it wont scratch the surface being masked too.

Right on! The holes in that blade are there to carry 1 " to 2" rolls There are also blades one for paper and one for plastic, One is sharper than the other and has a plastic guard over the teeth to prevent you from hacking your wrist9 (Be safe)

Never had the need to mask anything, technique is everything and a good thin metal spray shied will do the trick. And anyone that calls themselves a “journeymen” isn’t good at any one particularly trade😂
