You have heard of folding money? This money folds itself!
Tim put a plastic Australian bank note into the oven, and caused it to shrink to a tiny version of itself...
One dollar that is folded so that it looks like two...
A wonderful way of folding a one dollar note into three tiny interlocking squares, with George Washington's face still in the centre. Another way of folding it shows the two $1 logos.
Tim then demonstrates how you can 'weave' bank notes together.
Old US bank notes get shredded and sold as paper filling, for example as a pillow.
Finally, Tim shows his uncut sheet of US bank notes.

I swear when Tim pulled out that Aussie $5 note I thought he was going to do the trick where you fold in in half and you get a fish... Tim is too precious for this world.

Steve Wozniak tells a story about how he used to buy sheets of $2 bills and have a printing company perforate them and bind them into pads. He would go around tearing off bills to pay for stuff. He once got interviewed by the Secret Service after a casino thought they were counterfeit.

There used to be someone who would visit my elementary and show off whimsical toys. If Tim wasn’t from the UK I would have been almost certain that it was him. He was the highlight of each of our days. One time I remember really well is when he’d read us a West Virginian folktale about the tailypo, I hope he is doing great. You guys would have loved each other if I could only remember who he was
@lucas23453
@lucas23453 10 месяцев назад
Tailypo is a well used campfire tale of mine, and im not even from West Virginia. My dad was from Virginia but he wasn't even the one who told me the tale, it was my grandfather who was also born and raised here. I do notice some variations between the two stories, but I notice a lack of modern kids hearing the tale. Maybe next time I take my younger sister out camping I should tell her the story.

@@lucas23453 I discovered the story during my childhood through one of the Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark books. The oral tradition of scary stories does seem to be in decline.

Bit of fun info, we used to make baskets like those money baskets at Christmas every year growing up, but out of wrapping paper. its a Danish tradition. Some of them get extremely elaborate with the Danish flag waving as the pattern. I have a few with complex geometric designs woven into them. I have wanted to take them apart to see how they were made, but I know I will never get them back to shape. The idea, we were told, was that it was to hang on the trees, and to put candy in. At least, that is what we did. Neat to see another use for the same craft.

Steve Wozniak, one of the cofounders of Apple, used to buy uncut sheets of bills, cut them himself with lots of extra margin on one side, and perforate them for tearing. So he could carry around a little booklet, and rip bills out. People often thought they were fake, and one time he got in real trouble when he did it in a casino

As a kid I was always fascinated by money, but this would have blown my brain away with bags of shredded cash! When I would get new money from the bank with sequential serial numbers, I would use rubber cement and glue one edge of the stack so you could tear it from the stack as you used them. When people would marvel at it, I would ask if they never had new money before! But I hardly ever carry cash any more. The magic tricks I have seen before, and the special string is cool to have for other tricks as well!

Tim, you jest about cutting bills to equal change, but that is actually legal in America. So long as the fragment of the bill is greater than or equal to the intended amount (percentage wise) it can be accepted as legal tender. It will also be turned in to the bank the business uses and shredded as soon as possible.

I wonder why he put the first banknote into his shirt rather than into his shirt pocket or onto the table?
@MrScreenname
@MrScreenname Год назад
There's a string attached to the banknote that runs across the table and is taped to that part of his shirt. That way when he moves his hand towards the camera the bill folds itself. He puts it into his shirt to avoid tangling or breaking the string. There's a similar trick I use involving taping an extremely thin thread to a playing card and then taping the other end of it to your ear. Then you can give the illusion that the card is levitating
