Nathan Waldron just go to Mongolia, rent a car with Sixt Mongolia and drive from UB all the way up to Khuvsgul via Bulgan and onto Zavkhan, Uvs, Baya-Ulgii, Khovd, Gobi-Altai, Bayankhongor, Uvurkhangai, Tuv Aimag and UB. This journey should take around 10-14 days, and totallu doable in the nimble Suzuki Jimny or Hyandai Santa Fe. If you need more assurance get the pick-up or for luxury Nissan Patrol (i doubt you would have seen a car this big in UK). Total cost you are looking about £2500 - £3500 depending on the type of car you choose.
It was a bit of a wonder that Clio, only mechanical issue they had with it from memory is the exhaust falling off (so it sounded pretty mean). Don't think they even had a sump guard!

Nicklas Meyhoff So in Mongolia, we lost one of the convoy on the way to the locals house. So we sent out the Danish team in the Suzuki with Luke on the top of it to try and find them.. they promptly got pulled over by the Mongolian police and Luke was arrested for riding on the car! They put Luke in the police car and the police wanted the Danes to follow them to the police station, but they peeled off somehow when the police weren't looking leaving Luke alone with the police in the back of the police car lol. So the police panicked and took Luke to the station, meanwhile the Danes came back to the house to see if the local we stayed with was able to bargain his release, which he did for a packet of cigarettes if I remember correctly! It was a rather ridiculous situation, and we didn't even find the guys we lost until a few days later haha
