After our quad adventure we were taken to a "local garm" factory/store to try to flog us some competitively priced but slightly eccentric suits and dresses. A quick lunch afterwards and we were back on the road with the surface very hit and miss and began to start busting our wheel rims.
We were told about it beforehand but you could tell where the president had visited in the towns as the roads were very well maintained! We then waved goodbye to Afghanistan as we turned inland to carry on across the Pamir Mountain range. We climbed for a short while and ended up camping next to a lake. This was the last sleep for quite a few days that would be at less that 2000m!
The scenery changed from the harshness of the river valley we had been traveling down to the wide open flats in between the tall peaks in the Pamir mountain range. We carried on climbing throughout the day, stopping to experience a sulphur spa and have a spot of lunch which is where things started to get a little trickier, especially for Ollie who started to show some signs of food poisoning and altitude sickness... not an entertaining combination!
