In the last episode will said that we are leaving the homestead and traveling up to the north of Mongolia to the city of Darkhan for and adventure. We said that we would answer questions wile we are traveling. We have been invited By the University of Mongolia and the EU friendship project to do a one hour presentation on Deep Winter Greenhouses, Ground to Air heat (GAHT) systems and growing in the winter here in Mongolia. Winter in Mongolia is extremely cold and hard to grow here, but it was so great to be able to share our experience with small farmers as they are the future of agriculture here in Mongolia. This will be the first extreme winter on our homestead in Mongolia just outside the coldest capital city in the world and we have been preparing for winter. We have just finish construction of our geothermal greenhouse in Mongolia to become self sufficient and self sustainable here.

Christmas weren’t big thing in mongolia, because most of mongolian people are buddhist, but we do decorate our house with Christmas tree 🎄 for New Year celebrations.

Great video guys, so pleased with the recognition you are getting locally for the GH build, you did an amazing job. I suspect this may become a decent income stream. Potentially outsource building of the controllers to someone locally, the parts are cheap its just organising how to have them built and make a margin, the consultancy or creating a "Design and Build" company could work and be more profitable. Just a thought, the GAHT system and the passive GH facings and ideas like the Trombe wall could be designed into your house build. so the lessons from the GA cross over into keeping a house warm. BTW my son Josh graduated with a masters with honours in Structural engineering (for buildings) and Architecture and currently is working in a practice locally. he is into Travel and will be a month in Thailand next month, so thinking forward he might be a useful resource for you to use if you need. take care, stay warm and I will find time to watch your presentation. x rob

Hi Al Ed 👋 our chickens 🐓 are 5 months old now and there just started laying eggs 🥚 and that the way to get eggs in the winter. The breed we have lay around 250 eggs a year.

Thank you for your effort in producing these videos! I’ve really enjoyed them and have learned a lot. I have a question: why not insulate at the bottom of the pit you dug before back filling?

Hi Chris 👋 thanks so much.. that is a good question. The reason we didn’t do it for our project is because we had not problem with water levels at the site and we where able to dig down 3 and a half meters done way below the frost line. Insulation installed to that depth on the walls and then backfilled 1 meter before installing the pipes. The heat from the pipes will only extend about 50cm so there want be any heat loss under the side wall insulation if that make sense. In the case we build a GAHT system shallower we would insulated the bottom to but you would need to make it very well sealed so there is no gaps for heat loss or cold to enter. I hope that made sense. 👍
