aaliyah wasnt only known for her soft angelic voice but she was known for her image as well. aaliyah was the whole package. she had stunning good looks, a unique voice, she could dance her ass off, she can act and she was well spoken and stayed true to herself. aaliyah always remained a mystery and she along with monica and brandy were the underdogs back in the 90's. they were so young toppin the charts with legends such as whitney, janet and even mariah carey. the true princesses of r&b.
I don't think Monica has an attitude. Just because she's blunt and honest doesn't mean she has an attitude. people love using that word when it comes to black women and it's so annoying. but anyway, loved hearing her insight about Brandy and Aaliyah.
Right she’s just being herself , if someone has an attitude it’s just apart of their personality , that’s them , you either accept them or move along , not everyone is gonna act a certain way for you
@@kattybarbour5518 I agree to a certain extent but there's the saying treat people how you want to be treated and don't treat people like shit. But at the same time take no shit and give the vibe that although you are nice, you can go from 0 to 100 real quick and not about the bullshit.
newcreature2011 took the words right out of my mouth. I've never thought she had an attitude problem. She has such a beautiful aura very calm & respectful but don't rub her the wrong way because she does have a backbone. I think that's where the confusion come in at, people expect her to be all sweet and innocent like but that's not her personality. She's being true to herself and that's why I love Monica she's her own person and very authentic, which makes her admirable.
Zulu swashbuckler. Batonbeauty now I know this kind of thing scares you strong black women and everything like that it's okay to admit it strong black women scare be truthful and at peace with yourself!!!!!!!!!! ;)
I feel that in society people put a lot of emphasis on honesty, unfortunately when a person of color is completely honest there labeled as rude, ghetto or for my sistas a bitch.
lucy rosevelt maybe she's tired of hearing that when she really doesn't have one. To be questioned about it all the time or frequently sometimes puts you in defensive mode.
lucy rosevelt because someone just told her she has an attitude?! She have every right to respond how she likes this perfect world that everyone lives in is sooo fake
She ain't got no damn attitude problems. She's a woman with a strong go-getting sense of what she wants and how she's gonna get it. Now that I'm looking back to 90s teen R&B, Monica was the tough one, Aaliyah was the cool one & Brandy was the sweet one. They all varied in style like a collection of ice cream flavors at Baskin Robbins.
i dont think monica has a attitude, i just think shes very outspoken, and honest, so people get that misconstrued. she always handles her interviews well
Dontrel Dontrel she was a damn child that was caught up in shit that grown people did by pitting them against each other and she didn’t hit brandy for nothing. It was a actual reason because she was caught up in the mess to
PL phunkwephunk Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, and Celine Dion... or Diana Ross, Patti Labelle, and Aretha Franklin? It's true though, today's singers are garbage compared to anything that came out during the 20th century.
Jay West why refer to Rihanna as a “bitch”? It’s pathetic to talk about someone that way especially since they haven’t done anything wrong but pursue their dreams. Rihanna is famous because she puts out music that people enjoy and her personality oozes star quality. She’s not a vocalist like Whitney or Mariah but she’s not terrible either. I’d compare her to Britney Spears a bit, in the sense that whilst she won’t go down for being known as a vocal powerhouse, she’ll go down in pop culture as an icon for her songs, music videos, etc etc. Also I find it funny that you said the list above was “not too bad” meanwhile it listed jlo who CANT sing at all! Rihanna could sing circles around her. Even on her biggest tracks she had someone singing the vocals (Ashanti). Also it listed Ciara who is a talented performer but can’t sing well either. Then there’s also Janet “whisper” Jackson who whispers through her songs. I love Janet because she has star quality and puts on a great show but she isn’t a vocalist. So your comments now seem invalid
Monica's telling the truth in that interview! For the longest time it was just Aaliyah, Brandy and Monica for me. They were(are) so talented and so unique. I still listen to all three of their older stuff.
Monica hit the nail on the head. Aaliyah was her own and she changed the game incorporating that a soft/smooth tone is acceptable as powerful not just hitting and holding high notes. Her low notes could make you melt. Along with Brandy too & T-Boz as well. They are the blueprints
I'm so glad I got to grow up in a time with real singers and real raw voices from women like Brandy,Monica,Aaliyah,Mariah Carey,Janet Jackson. Songs like sunny day, honey bring back such happy memories.I feel sorry for kids nowadays they'll never understand that kind of happy music.they'll never understand you can sing and dance with out being nasty or cussing every other word.
Jorden Austin Awww man I really understand what you mean. My little cousins are singing about getting my money, betta have my money, throw it back in a circle. We all were in the car one day, and I got so tired of the music, I cut it off. And said how can you ask for money ya'll don't do nothing to earn it! SMH Just weird.
T Elease Lmao yep I feel ya my nieces started singing too short one day! I called my sister like uhhh you know they over here singing, there she go sliding down the pole, I was in shock and turned on pbs kids immediately! Lol
90's definitely the Golden Era!! The Miss Thang album is as special as my first kiss to me. 1995 for sure. My favorite year ever🎉 Watching her videos from that album always give me that same feeling I had when I first saw it. She just have that grown sexy mamas voice that turn me on back then and now. God bless her😍 Going to get Monica, Brandy, & Aliyah faces tatted on me.
I had a hard time finding picking who I really liked because Brandy was the conservative good-girl you could relate to. Then Aaliyah was the tomboy with a sexy, feminine swag, especially with the Veronica Lake look and remarkable dance moves. Then you had Monica who was diva, keep-it-real girl of Atlanta and is known for the short bob and a "Miss Thang" attitude. They were exceptionally beautiful and Aaliyah will truly be missed. No one could ever duplicate, yeah and I said it, these legends!
Monica is so down to earth and carries herself so well. I love the way she spoke so natural in this interview...nothing fake or scripted sounding. Brandy and Aaliyah were such great originals back in the day no one compares to them just like she said. Monica was a strong talent as well coming out so young with that big voice.
i can really relate to monica on so many levels. people just assume you have a bad attitude because you like things a certain way or you don't like things a certain way or because you voice your opinion on things that seems unfair or because you don't smile often.
I love Monica! Real, real, & more Real. I Respect the hell out of people that can stay down to earth despite criticism and being rich and famous. You go girl!
I'm so happy she gave that answer there can never be that 3 again, that doesn't take away from anyone else there are many great singers that will claim a time and place but one thing about those 3 they fit into everyday life for their generation and everyone after and that is something today's singers not all but many lack
When you aren't bubbly or don't smile a lot you're perceived as "ghetto," "angry," or "having an attitude." Say what you want, Monica consistently kept it classy with her responses. She definitely wasn't the one keeping whatever fued may have existed in the media alive
this is so amazing... I never knew they all hung out together... the 90s were not also a time of great music & variety, but a great time for unity. Singers today are pitted against each other & it makes me sick... I loved Monica's answer when they interviewer asked her "who would the 3 be today"... I don't think anyone can duplicate or bring to music what Brandy, Monica & Aaliyah did.
It's crazy because I'm an 80's baby that was raised in the 90's. And between 94-99, Aaliyah, Brandi, and Monica was dominating the scene. Their personalities and singing capabilities were so distinctive it personally made it difficult for me to choose. You had Aaliyah's sultry falsettos, Brandi's unique raspy, controlled pitches, and Monica's strong vocal range. They were extremely talented and admittedly, there will never be other female artists like them or reminiscent of them.
if you really see thru the years Aaliyah's death kind of made them see reality in the industry. they both til this day thank her on their albums. Brandy and Monica have grown past the little girl stage into women but this time to take time. i guess the industry is vicious. Brandy almost got her name slandered by her record label and yet again Monica rushed on hers then people questioned by her reputation. sad Aaliyah lost her life because of hers but they are really in control. these two are survivors of it being they came this far and still doing their thing. so they are really defending Aaliyah after her death while others still hold a grudge like destiny's child .i see them holding a torch for Aaliyah while still bearing their own.there is no competition.
If Monica has attitude problems then let her do her. Not everybodys nice . Thats the problem with people nowadays ppl are just living in an illusion that this world is bubbly friendly. Im not saying that her having a bad attitude is right, but I respect a person more when they show their true colors.
051290ma That isn't what the problem is. The label obviously expect singers to take garbage songs and just accept them. If I was a singer/songwriter, or was making pop music, I'd be the same. I wouldn't want people telling me what songs to sing. I'd expect to put the music I wanted to put out. I think too many musical artists out there especially today just do what they're told. That's wack.
I've been told I'm too nice and I've been taken advantage of but then when I finally stood up for myself I was told I had an attitude problem and that I was rude
what is cute is that I looked at all of them as being in a lil group of hip-hop r&b fenoms:) Brandy was the conservative one, Monica was the hood one lol, and Aaliyah was the edgy cool one...they were like the powerpuff girls and I enjoyed their music and styles coming up in the mid-90's!!!!!! rip to Ms. Aaliyah, babygurl;)
I agree with her partially but Aaliyah was way ahead than anyone even though these 3 were friends and Brandy and Monica are great, Aaliyah was out of the league her music still sounds current today so does her Art work in her videos, Aaliyah inspired a fresh new wave of females some who have stole her look and imitated her, i.e Rihannas new look, Ciara and Beyonce modelled her career after Aaliyah as at the time Beyonce ultimate competition was Aaliyah
The tea was spilled. Also, Let’s not forget Aaliyah was also competition for all the black actresses and yes even white actresses back in the 2000s because Aaliyah’s movie career was taking off.
Beyoncé didn't modèles her career after Aaliyah AT ALL it's the most delusionnal thing I've heard. Beyoncé looked up to the greats like Michael Jackson and Tina Turner not Brandy, Monica or Aaliyah even tho she was a fan their work abd knew them. Aaliyah are Beyoncé are night and day vocal wise, dance wise, style wise and everything in between abd there was no rivalry. Aaliyah was a HUGE Destiny's Child fan matter of fact and she wanted to work with them in the Romeo Must Die soundrack and helped choreographed the Get On the bus music video off of the Why do fools fall in love soundrack
@Ange Chrisman Girl, you do not need to come for me, as I never sent for you! That's the truth Jay-Z tried to buy her to his label, Aaliyah was too independent, and they took the competition out and replaced her with, someone who could be easily be manipulated an become the illuminati Princess.
That album is my favorite of hers! I met her at the Beverly center she was walking by herself inside the guess store i was coming back from lunch when I saw MS THANG!! I was afraid to talk to her she looks mean it's just how some Latinas and Black sister's have their face ! LOL anyways so when she got to the door of the entrance Isaid MONICA? SHE TURN AROUND AND GAVE ME THIS LOOK! Thought she was gonna kill me for speaking to her! I said I love you! I'm a big fan of yer music! 😀 She gave me the biggest smile and said THANK YOU she gave me a hug very sweet! She actually came back with her mom and before leaving she looked for me and said thank u!!!! I haven't forgotten that day
Envy and Jealousy plays a part. I have lived this life with sisters. 3 of us were different colors and I was brown and successful. They were biracial and felt it would be given to them.i went to work and prayed.
She's right. Whenever I hear her, Brandy or Aaliyah, I immediately know it's one of them. They each have/had their distinctive voices. Haven't heard anyone that sounds like them since. RIP Aaliyah.
I Never Heard Of Monica Having An Attitude Problem! I Did However Hear Of Brandy Have One! I Love Both Of Them As Artist Though! No Ones Going To Be Nice All The Time! People Have Bad Days!!!
People like you always try to dis credit Aaliyah. Umm, I think everybody has a team behind them. And Aaliyah only worked with Tim and Missy on her 2nd album and a few on her last, and that album was/is ahead of it's time. No one realize the risk it was to go from R.Kelly (another good album) to two unknown producers. Tim and Missy will tell you themselves that that album put them on the map. Her voice was rich and she had her own style, no one can say she jacked anyone's style or sound.
Monica doesn't have a attitude the thing I noticed as a child over Brandy she was mature and stood her ground she was very mature and that voice I loved it still do
Dallas was used to workin with females with attitude, *TLC, Thats a good thing, to have an attitude in your music and wanna do things your way is good in this industry cause if you dont open your mouth you will get pushed around!
I wish Monica, Brandy, and Aaliyah wouldve done a duet together. It wouldve been a hit. Its so sweet what she said about Aailyah on how she was always shy and there is no one in this world like Aaliyah . I agree 100% , she was also right about the 3 thing. The will NEVER be one like them ever again. Timeless artists . R.I.P Aaliyah .
OMG Mo doesn't matter have an attitude on this interview LOL but anyway I like the fact that she talked about Aaliyah and Brandy. I enjoyed this interview. I will always love Monica because she tell it like it is and it's whatever with her❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
The label marketed Monica as the “uptown Girl” she had her own mind, and she was ok with not conforming lol she didn’t let people tell her who she was, she already knew.
Monica summed it up when she said there is no 3 that you can compare to Brandy, Aaliyah and Monica. That was a one time thing and there really is no comparison in todays music.
i have much respect for monica now days and shes rite bout everything she said ,she had truely mature into a woman now so keep be blessed and doing ur thing
Her reaction at 0:10...diva! But Monica can sing her ass off! An she is one of very few of the 90s r&b artists to stay relevant and still be successful today! Gotta love MO
I don't think monica has a attitude problem??? and why do interviewers HAVE to talk about what they heard??? NO ONE CARES ! interview the artist, the fans wanna see her and not what YOU heard
