We have used Emporia for over a year now. Love it. Just wish we would get a second one to run the house circuits we don't have monitored. I also suggest taping the Emporia sensor wires to the Emporia hub. We had some come out so we lost connection to some sensors. Also our wiring box is a bit crowded.

Ditto. I have been using mine for a year now to learn how we are using electricity. Especially over-night usage to really figure out battery capacity needs. I do wish they monitored more circuits. Would like to see this integrated into the circuit breakers!

Thanks for the video. I have purchased the 16 circuit version and will be installing it tomorrow when my wife is gone for lunch with some ladies from Church. I have 18 circuits in the main panel and have narrowed down to the 16 to be monitored. The reason for monitoring is my estimate of 28-32 panels have jumped way up to 60 panels. On the manual, my pamphlet directed me to download the app for my phone and walk through it. The app is okay but not beginner friendly (which is okay for me since I am familiar with wiring). I also have labeled each CT with same label I assigned it in the app. Keeping it simple saves future Brent from jumping to conclusions. Haha

In US most house have a single phase electrical system with a center tap from the transformer. This is how one gets 120 VAC for most of the appliances and 240 VAC for the dryer. That is single phase electrical system. There are three phase electrical system in large applications or industrial uses. There is no such thing as two phase electrical system. In Europe it is the same, the only difference is that in Europe they don't use the middle tap on the transformer so they have single phase 220 VAC or three phase systems.

Put one of those on my main panel and sub in workshop last year. We are getting solar and this has been valuable for finding out where is being used. Also the smart switches are nice as well as with our old house we have circuits that are all over the place - so like knowing how much my home office uses with computer, printer, monitors, etc. Also the plugs you can set schedules for getting rid of phantom usages like Smart TV, etc. We turn off that plug over night to get rid of the phantom power. I like switching from watts to currency to see how much each major appliance uses per day, week, month. Also ties into Home Assistant nicely.

It's a bit unsettling how people are doing this themselves getting into the breaker box like this. Things like torque screw drivers and tightening to spec as stated on the breaker, are things completely overlooked, for example. Also, some might not make a pigtail, and instead figure they can just "add" a wire. Rookie things like that. And good grief the wire mess...

Your fridge and hot water tank are closed loop electric heat system completely contained within your house. In cold climates changing to a more energy efficient fridge or HWT just pushes your heating demand to your furnace. And you now used a lot of energy to make new appliances and the old ones will end up in a landfill. A few more generations and people might actually figure it out.
@zacharywhite8230
@zacharywhite8230 Год назад
That is true but a fridge will benefit you in the winter with heat generated to cool it but will work against you in the summer. So a more efficient one will help all around in the long run. The problem is you will never see a return in savings or on investment because Al of the new stuff is junk in 5-6 years. So it’s a catch 22.
