When the killer turns out to be the least expected killer in the room... aka the city official who disappeared was actually murdered AND was having an affair with a married man.
Season 7, Episode 16 "MR. MONK FIGHTS CITY HALL": When the parking garage where Monk's wife was killed is set for demolition, Monk intervenes -- but soon finds himself investigating the disappearance of a city official key to preserving the site. Tim Bagley and Jon Polito guest star.

Monk Synopsis: Adrian Monk (Emmy®-winner Tony Shalhoub) was once a rising star with the San Francisco Police Department, legendary for using unconventional means to solve the department's most baffling cases. But after the tragic and still-unsolved murder of his wife, Trudy, the devastated Monk becomes obsessive-compulsive. His psychological disorder has caused him to develop an abnormal fear of virtually everything: germs, heights, crowds... even milk. Monk's condition costs him his job, but he's back as a police consultant despite the unique challenges he encounters in his everyday life. These challenges lead Monk to hire a personal nurse, Sharona Fleming (Bitty Schram), who is always there to offer her assistance, even with the simplest of tasks (like organizing his sock drawer). Her less-than-subtle prodding keeps the "defective detective" on track in his investigations, as well as in his efforts to convince Captain Stottlemeyer (Ted Levine) to allow him to return to the force.

Awesome underrated episode - unfortunately when it first aired it was overshadowed by having a notoriously misleading trailer. It implied that it was going to advance the Trudy plot saying that "you won't believe what he finds" in the garage, and with it being the season finale of the penultimate season it made it all the more believable. Turned out to be a nothingburger on that end. Still a very good episode though. Apparently there was a similar thing with the Man who Shot Santa.

@@scruffygaming627 It all depends on how rare the ties are in that part of the US. If he is the only buyer in the area - then it is real evidence. If he is the only buyer in the western half of the US then perhaps it is enough on its own. At a minimum its enough to get a search warrant and look for DNA evidence which would nail the case. Cops can arrest and hold you on suspicion while they look for other evidence. By the time he is released in a few days they would have executed the search warrants and gathered the key evidence. TV is unrealistic on the time for testing and ultimate conviction though. Weeks at a minimum; and often months.

Lmao... sf police catching anyone is a hilarious concept not grounded in the real world... prosecution is doubly ludicrous.

So you're saying there's no way any neurodivergent person could ever act like this in rl?

As an autist I don't find monk to be remotely offensive or disgusting. I also don't interpret it the way you do. He's "basically magic" because he's one of the many characters inspired by and following the mould of Sherlock Holmes. He's just a character who has a certain set of traits. It sounds to me like you're finding reasons to be offended. If anything I see a character with obsessive-compulsive behaviour as the main protagonist who is depicted as commanding respect and being a relatively functional, contributing member of society, which is a relatively positive depiction of someone with a mental disorder.

As someone who actually has OCD, I recognize that this is not at all what it's like, but I am not in any way offended. It's an entertaining television show. Most people realize that it's a work of fiction played up for laughs. There is something called a remote, which allows you to change channels and not watch things which offend you. Only you can choose to be offended by things. Or you can let it go and worry about real life issues.
