I was at that concert. It was amazing the atmosphere was electric. I have been a monkee micky fan since 1967 this was the first time I had seen them live. It was an emotional night

@SNS1016 They did tour North America after this - but without Nesmith. He quit after this tour. What you have here is the authentic, original four piece, playing the instruments themselves, which is really great to see. Most other reunions have been two or three of the original members singing to a backing band...

Do to his association w a "bubble gum" group, Michael is sadly the most underrated singer-songer writer of the late 60's & 1970's. That boy had talent! Look at the number of albums he put out after leaving the Monkees, his genre was country/rock/folk but they never became hits except for the song "Joanne", one of the biggest his of 1972. I LOVE YOU MIKE! Your Monkee songs are still my favorites..and I will never deny that!!

I feel the same way. I was born in 1989. Which makes me 19 now, when i was young i was obsessed for about 12 years.. then i kinda got out of them for a long time.. now all of a sudden i am obsessed again. It's really, really amazing how ONE band of only four people could change a life so much. I know that all die-hard monkee fans feel the same.

They really sound great on this song. Mike still has that awesome voice too. And no side "help". No backup singers or musicians. Just them... the way it should be.

All four of the guys are without a doubt have talent! As a fan for 45 years I've been upset over comment made about The Monkees. Never before and never again will there be another group like The Monkees. Hey, they tried and failed! Magic like this happens only once! And that's why we still love them today! Thank you Peter, David, Mike and Micky for the music and fun! I've seen 25 concerts with The Monkees in each stage of the group and was never disappointed!

Wish the band or promoter had filmed this for distribution later on. They're so good and all seem to be happy. In interviews done after this tour Micky explained why Mike stopped touring with them after this. Despite playing to packed houses of adoring fans,the critics crucified them in the press. After that, Micky said Mike wouldn't tour with them anymore.

This is one of the better reunion clips of the Monkees. A great song and Mike still holding his own on vocals and guitar. I agree with the other folks who commented that they seemed too far apart on stage. Peter was so far away he was almost in Scotland.

They should be in the Rock N Roll hall of fame for no other reason the impact they made ...Can you tell the story of Rock N Roll Video without them ?? NO !!!...They had talent ...they made an impact !!!...and had great memorable songs ...They deserve to be in much more than some who have been inducted already ...come on Madonna ???

Damn they sounded great here. For a band that was just made up to be a Tv show, they really did their homework to prove THEY could sound like the original musicians playing those original tracks. 5 star kudos to them for proving the critics wrong. Sure wish Mike could just still do this project on the side. Regrets later in life can break more then just his own heart;)

Yes - Zappa was great friend of theirs too - he did an appearance on their show and in Head. When the TV show was cancelled, he asked Micky to be the drummer for the Mothers of Invention, but Mick couldn't get released from his contract to do it.

Actually the tour did make it to North America, I remember because I wanted tickets so so so so so bad, but my parents thought (since I was so young, about 6th grade) that I was expecting them to sound like they did when they were young. I am still upset about it to this day, The Monkees are such an amazing group with such a great story. Thanks for uploading the video! It's one of my favorite songs!

There is too much "eliteism" in music....the Stones didn't write untill John and Paul composed "I wanna be your man" right before their eyes....although the Monkees were Prefabed....the talent of Nesmith, and Tork is un mistakeable...Dolenz and Jones were good singers..and .... as good as some other bands who have already been voted into the Rock Hall of Fame. Zappa called them his fave band in the day...I agree..put them in their much deserved spot as their influence is felt to this day.

@CherryAngelV8SS Bubble gum group is correct. The nerve to put them on an equal plain with the Beatles or the Stones was completely whacked.

@southsidesman He does play instruments. I've seen him play guitar, drums, and percussion. If you've ever tried to play tambourine or maracas too, it's not that easy to make great sounds. Davy is actually considered to be on of the best on those two instruments by real musicians. Besides, you don't have to play an instrument if you're the singer. It often stifles the ability to play fancier licks and/or put your all into the singing at the same time. Just my 2 cents as a guitar player.

well, there is plenty to preview here on YT, and if you subscribe to Rhapsody (or itunes?) you do have access to all their music! (and all the great Nez solo albums). I presume you know that all The Monkees music is pretty easy to find on CD? New and used? I recommend you get the next album; "Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones, Ltd.". The Neztunes on it are "Salesman", "Love Is Only Sleeping", "Door Into Summer" and "Don't Call On Me", as well as "Daily Nightly" that he wrote and Micky sings!

@crazysingingchick okay I don't know what I'm hearing but clearly Tork is on bass, which makes total sense, but I wouldn't doubt that Davy could play just as well if he wanted to. @SAHBfan Hmm I seemed to remember them all being in a video I watched from the LA show... perhaps I'm remembering wrong. I do wish they'd do just one more. I understand why Mike doesn't tour-it stinks but makes sense. He tried to hard to break out and be on his own, but like most other "boy band" members he will be remembered mostly for The Monkees-not his own work. Oh well, just means more hardcore fans get to inform and educate others!!
@elfhermie
@elfhermie 13 лет назад
@Billbmcse Lots of bands/singers have nicknames for songs. That might be the opening line or the chorus even though the song is called something else. They may call it Ol Bimbus because somebody screwed up or was joking around when they first did it and it stuck. Bands can be real goofballs. I've been in bands that have totally turned songs into foul mouthed X rated porn if somebody scews up and those times are often the most fun during rehearsals/jamming. They just came up with a nickname.
