Hi I know this video is from quite a while ago but I had a couple questions. How long were the rib sections and what was the total build time? Dunno if I’ll hear back but this is an awesome idea I’m hoping to try at Wasteland Weekend 🙂
It has been so long, I forget how long hey were but each rib is 2 pieces, a long one and a shorter, smaller diameter one. The smaller one fits inside the larger one. It took about 6 of us a couple of hours to put it together. The pounding of rebar took the most energy. It provides deep shade!
+Jeff P Hey Jeff, it makes a 20x40 foot footprint as it is 40 feet long! You can make it whatever length you want, depending on the size of your shade tarp. We found that 20' wide gives us plenty of head room in the middle, so those wearing big hats or hair can still walk around inside!
The hut looks like it is weak in the end-to-end direction. Did you tie down the ends so that the hut wouldn't sway? Did you consider using a more translucent material for the roof to let more light in?
+mrtodd3620 Hi, we do use tie downs from the apex of the two ends. We purposely used a heavy tarp to block as much of the sun as possible. It offers deep shade on even the hottest days! We run lights on solar inside so it stays lite at night!
