At first I thought he wasn't making a connection between the reaction to spicy hot and the fruit, wanting to eat it so bad but distracted by the reaction. But someone mentioned this "annointing" thing they do to keep bugs off and I totally agree, after seeing him do this with limes in another video, and lemon in another, what a cool instinct. Capuchins are just the coolest monkeys! And hats off to Pete and the family, you guys do such an amazing job, have so much patience, sacrifice a lot I'm sure, thanks for sharing all the videos of Boo, he's awesome!
Lol that's funny and watching all your videos I know how much you love boo and take amazing care of him, most people out there should learn from you how to be good parents and show attention!
really glad y'all take the time to explain 100s of times in the comments that you do, in fact, know what you're doing. so many people doubt your abilities, why?! you treat him so well
In terms of capuchin years, is Boo considered an adult? He's about 6 years old now right? He's so well behaved and smart, if he's still an "adolescent" I cant wait to see how brilliant he'll be when he gets older!
Looks like a bell pepper to Boo is like catnip to my cat, everytime I give I give my cat her catnip she rubs all in it like trying to take a catnip bath.........hahahahaha........Boo is the cutest!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
primates have great instincts, Capuchins have the largest brain of any mammal their size. So, yes Capuchins are incredibly smart & very in touch with their instincts. They detect when plants and fruit have a high level of acid and this acid is the insect repellent. Peppers are also a insect repellent.
I watch a programme here called monkey world. Capuchins fave food is onion. And they do this. They run it all over them. So it must be same here. Not abuse or anything. This is natural to the monkey.
I loved watching Boo both enjoying his bell pepper snack then wanting to smell like the pepper. I had an iguana who loved the taste of bell peppers, but I have never thought anyone would want to spread the smell on themselves. I wish I knew more about why he enjoys that so much, but it may be as simples as loving the smell, like cologne.
What does the eye gesturing and raising of the eyebrows indicate in Capuchins, generally &/or in Boo, specifically? Thanks for sharing Boo vids--he's a darling little rascal!
Capuchins rub these medicinal leaves on themselves, for skin protection. There is a documentary of them in Costa Rica, and to see a whole group of them, up a tree rubbing their fur like crazy, it's hilarious!
+pam112061 First.... because he loves peppers.... and Second..... Why would it burn him?? It's a VEGTABLE THAT IS NOT SPICEY! They would never give anything to Boo to hurt him!!
+Monkey Zee The why question was why is he doing this, not why are they giving him a green pepper. Sorry I didn't articulate that better. Also, OF COURSE I know that Pete would never hurt Boo. I've been a fan for awhile now and it's more than obvious that Pete and Boo have a special unbreakable bond. Sorry I wasn't clear in my question.
pam112061.... That's what sucks about the internet... you can't see facial expressions and hear the tone of the voice... causing MANY many misunderstandings..... Plus the fact of several others that were really throwing a fit over it.... So please forgive me if I came off a strong.... :-) Happy Halloween.... :-)
