A documented first hand experience of taking part in the 2023 Morocco Monkey Run. Starting in the Sahara Desert and ending in Marrakesh 7 days later. We travelled just over 1000km on bikes barely capable of 20kmph up some of the steepest hills and a maximum of 60kmph down hill. The locals were extremely patient with the bikes and didn't overtake us on any blind bends. Well I may have made that last bit up.
We were in a team of 3, myself, my brother Matt and Justin, who the locals liked to call Ali Baba.
Some of the events weren't captured on camera such as bending the bike key in the town Rich and taken around the market by the hotel owner in search of someone to fix it. There was also the barking stray dogs every night playing their evening tune.
Of course some things were captured, see if you can spot myself high fiving one of the local kids. Although did get hit by a stone when passing another.
This covers the first half of the journey, the second will follow in a part 2 video which will also show the finish line celebrations. v

It was the experience of a life time. We signed up on the adventures site :) Not sure if you can bring your own bike. Possibly, although would be far faster then the 30mph ones 😅

Yeah just wondering what route you took? And if you would’ve done anything differently?

Can't upload an image of our route here but would definitely recommend finding smaller roads. The larger ones were pretty terrifying with coaches squeezing past you etc. We took a few too many of the faster roads after travelling in the wrong direction a few times and having to make up ground. 😅 I'd also say getting to the top of the gorge would have been good. We deteoured but decided against pushing onto the top when I think we should have for the views down it that we saw others had seen.
