Step into the hauntingly abandoned Monmouth Mall in New Jersey with me, Anthony Setaro, a local real estate agent and filmmaker. This 9-minute video captures the final moments of this childhood haven, as the mall undergoes redevelopment by the Kushner Companies. Soon to be rebranded as Monmouth Square, the familiar landscape is about to transform.
Wander with me through the eerie remnants of my past as I walk past the vacant or long-gone stores like JC Penney, Sam Goody, Game Stop, Suncoast Motion Picture Company, Gap, Aeropastale, Abercrombie & Fitch, Lord and Taylor, and many more. Experience the bittersweet nostalgia as I bid farewell to the Monmouth Mall that shaped my youth.
Exciting updates unfold as I share that Whole Foods has recently inked a deal to lease approximately 40,000 square feet of space, currently occupied by Barnes & Noble booksellers. Barnes & Noble, in turn, will find a new home within the mall. Witness these significant changes firsthand and stay connected for more redevelopment updates.
This video is not just about a fading mall but a visual chronicle of history in the making. Subscribe for more emotional explorations and be part of this transformative journey from Monmouth Mall to Monmouth Square by Kushner Companies.

You explained it perfectly. Any Monmouth county native would say the same ! Thank you for this. I never realized how many good memories I have in that place.

When I lived in Long Branch from 2011 to 2015, I can't tell you how many joyous times I shopped in Monmouth Mall🥰, especially during the holiday season🎄 when the complex was bursting with shoppers before online shopping was a thing of the future. I visited the mall one last time last month, and it grieved me sorrowfully there were barely thirty people inside the facility. I discovered most of the stores I used to go to were padlocked and left deserted, like JC Penny and Sports Authority. I feel for Mr. Setaro's grief😔 of sharing his memories of Monmouth Mall in his upload, and now, as we speak, the demolition has already begun, and already 2/4 of the remnants of the building have been crushed to dust. A sad day for Eatontown's residents whose livelihood is not what it used to be after the destruction of a once-prominent shopping extravaganza. 😢

Hey cuz! Nice job with the video. Some good memories here. Monmouth Mall was a bit out of the way for us, but worth the trip due to the selection and size of stores. First computer purchase came from the Macy's there, circa 1985. They used to carry electronics on the lower level (talk about dating yourself) ...Apple II-C & Panasonic dot matrix printer, that I still have today.

The piped-in music is what I fondly remember from my local mall. All those great pop/rock songs from the 70s & Big '80s. Lest we also not forget about the arcades? Straight out of the opening scene in Fast Times At Ridgemont high. eh Those were the days! Now my childhood mall (Kings Plaza in Bklyn) looks like every other mall that was refurbished from yesteryear.

I was pretty emotional too when they torn down my childhood mall. Opened in 1969 when I was 3 and torn down in 2012. The last two weeks before they closed I’d go there everyday. Took in all the memories. Just took many for one trip so I went a lot. It really was generation X’s place. What I miss most is Christmas time in the early 90s when my wife and I were engaged. The Salvation Army Chorus and Band playing in the center of the mall. People would stop for a moment and listen to the music.

The scheer amount of wasted materials used to build all the malls about to be demolished across the USA is staggering!

Where I live there is a mall like 18 miles away that is a single level mall that opened it's doors in 1965. In 2024 that mall is running but without 4 retail stores and 3 of it's anchor stores. The mall has been operating for 59 years and counting it's shocking it's still is after how people changed how they shop.

Ngl, my mom got emotional when our mall closed too. It was gnarly walking through the mall and hearing nothing but the environmental system, when a decade before, you could hear nothing but the hustle and bustle of people shopping and laughing

Mixed use development. The project had met a lot of resistance originally but has since been scaled down and reworked and moving forward.
