I was finishing Hemingway's "For Whom the Bell Tolls" while listening this song for the first time. It totally suits the finale of the book... Whenever i listen to it again i remember Hemingway's story. awesome melody
my uncle told me some years ago mono sounds like funeral music. i was never in one, but if funerals sounds like this, I hope I won't love very much the dead, or I'll be confused with my emotions.
Pretty common for post rock groups. I think it's because single pickups allow for more nuance from the notes which is a very important thing for post rock tones. humbucker pickups are fine when you want to play really hard and heavy rock but when you want note clarity you might want to play with single coil pickups. Kind of why when a lead guitarist goes for a solo they generally switch to single coil combinations so the notes aren't muddy which humbucker pickups will tend to do.
