The few countries that have "the" in their name use the word "the" as part of their name, such as The Bahamas. Historically, people have incorrectly added a "the" to Ukraine for no reason.

Doesn't mean it didn't happen.

Those who called it "the Ukraine" in English must have known that the word meant "borderland", says Anatoly Liberman, a professor at the University of Minnesota with a specialism in etymology. So they referred to it as "the borderland". "After the collapse of the Soviet Union, Ukrainians probably decided that the article denigrated their country [by identifying it as a part of Russia] and abolished 'the' while speaking English, so now it is simply Ukraine. "That's why the Ukraine suddenly lost its article in the last 20 years, it's a sort of linguistic independence in Europe, it's hugely symbolic."

Include the before countries (1) with plural names (the Philippines, the Maldives and the Netherlands); (2) with names containing a noun stating the kind of state (the Republic, the Democratic, the State(s), the Union, the Confederation, the Kingdom, the Commonwealth, the Principality).

I don't like these types of regulations California has, but what I like even less is some dude in DC who thinks he can lord over the entire country from coast to coast, meddling even in how cities and states regulate their neighborhoods and companies. And, further, he poked them in the eye by saying he could solve it at the federal level. It's a rhetorical stunt, nothing more. Substantively, he hasn't done much transgressing of this sort. He's politically savvy enough to realize this would rarely benefit him. Homelessness is a difficult problem, and, even if it were successful on some statistical level, the conservative solution would be unlikely to please Californians.

Trump scrapped the regulation at the federal level (which is good), but that wasn't enough for him, he wouldn't tolerate even a single state keeping such regulations (not good).

In general, CA's environmental policies are underwhelming compared to their environmental rhetoric. But, I see this as a rare instance of Trump's substantive interference.

Deborah Ramirez, who the Times' story was mainly about, does remember and witnesses remembered too. The witnesses called, wrote letters to the FBI but got no response. The other lady said she doesn't remember. Maybe she doesn't but then quite possibly she didn't want her life upended by all the publicity. Why is it that with only 9 seats on the Supreme Court, two are held by men credibly accused of sexual harassment/assault?

I just tried to get an email address that could be sent to all members of Congress. There isn't one. And I can't send an email to a member of Congress within whose region I do not live. How do we communicate with them? We have reached a time with this administration that their behaviors can no longer but allowed to continue. America, what are we as citizens to do? I've sent emails with no responses. Should we march on Washington? Get the late night hosts to help set up something? WHAT? Before the crown for king Don the Con is placed on his head?
