Monschau is a town in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia, located at an altitude of about 420 meters in the Aachen City Region. It is located on the edge of the Eifel at the upper reaches of the Rur. The city has 11,686 inhabitants on an area of 94.62 km². The towns of Simmerath, Schleiden, Hellenthal, Roetgen and Eupen in Belgium are a short distance away.
