monster || ashfur pmv 

OK I've decided to share my thought process here and how I intended for the symbolism to come across!! (ALSO, you are still free to think everything means whatever. So long as you don't say "Ashfur is an uwu baby who did nothing wrong, he was just possessed!!!11!" because uh, everything Ashfur did was because of Ashfur himself lol) TL;DR is basically, the "monster" haunting Ashfur is Ashfur's own thoughts and his more, well, monstrous side. List of the specific symbolism: 0:01 - Ashfur drops a squirrel (representing Squirrelflight). This one actually doesn't have a deep meaning like "AsHfUr DrOpPeD HiS LoVE fOr SqUiRrELfLigHT" because Squirrelflight "drops" him, I just put this in the PMV because it felt fitting lol 0:12 - The monster approaches Ashfur as he watches Squilf and Bramble walk away together. The monster is holding a dead squirrel in its, uh, "paws". This is meant to show how Ashfur is absolutely heartbroken and upset, and a part of him says that he should take revenge and kill Squilf for what he did... or at least hurt her badly. 0:14 He glares at the monster because he KNOWS it would be wrong, morally. But the monster is still there. 0:22 Ashfur glares at Lionpaw, Squirrelflight's son, as the monster flickers to life next to him. 0:27 The monster basically says that this is a chance for Ashfur to take his revenge on Squirrelflight... 0:29 ...After all, she'd be CRUSHED if her son died. Ashfur knows it's a bad idea, and is a bit shocked by this idea, but... 0:33 ... but she's being awfully mean, isn't she? Maybe she deserves it. 0:36 Maybe he should listen to the monster. 0:38 Ashfur is distraught and finally decides to listen to his monster. 0:44 He glares at Squirrelflight over his shoulder. She looks far too happy for his taste. 0:46 The monster is next to him to represent that he's thinking of doing the things the monster suggests. 0:49 His fur-pattern is starting to "drip", making him look more similar to the monster to represent that he is about to listen to all of his dark thoughts. 0:52 Ashfur starts to resemble the monster even more with his red lineart. Again, meant to represent that he's definitely ready to follow through with his horrific plans. 1:17 After Squirrelflight reveals the secret, a Squirrel wrapped up in brambles is shown. Meant to represent Ashfur's thought that, by revealing this secret, not only would Squirrelflight get hurt. Oh no, he'd use someone she loves to hurt her. 1:22 Ashfur is now completely the monster. He's not even attempting to cover it at this point. 1:46 Ashfur is forever chained to his monstrous side - because he IS his monstrous side. (Realising now I accidentally made the not-visually-monstrous Ashfur look at bit too "innocent" but that wasn't on purpose.) I would have only had the monster looking down at the dead body but that felt, idk, not... "right"? That would make it seem like "ahaha monster took over Ashfur's body, innocent Ashbaby uwu" which is the opposite of what I wanted, so I really hope having both the monster and Ashfur, stuck together, got the point across better. Buuut yeah!! That's my personal thought process for everything :-)

Ok... this is such a good idea? Having him slowly transforming into the monster he is, showing his thoughts and insides to Squirrelflight. Absolutely goregous artstyle as always and the timing of Lyrics and the art is perfect- i love it tons, one of my fave pmvs now!

Hehe Ashfur head cannon: Maybe the reason he responded so violently to being rejected by Squirrel girl is because when he was an apprentice he learned to manage his loses by getting back at those who hurt him when he got to help rid the dogs as vengeance for his mother -(Idk it always mildly bothered me we never got to see backstory as to why Ashfur acted the way he did, no normal person turns evil over a breakup)-

I wanted to make a list of all the little bits of symbolism i noticed throughout the video (lmk if i missed any) (idek if all of these can be considered symbolism) 0:02 the squirrel at ashfur’s paws (representing squirrelflight) 0:12 ashfur’s inner monster holding the squilf squirrel like it’s prey that he’s toying with (this is important for later) 0:30 ashfur’s inner monster encouraging him to get revenge on squirrelflight, or fueling and encouraging his growing bitterness as he watched lionpaw, which is shown when he crushes the squirrel in his paw 0:35 ashfur’s resentment and bitterness slowly growing as he talks to squirrelflight 0:40 the inner monster slowly taking over as ashfur’s sanity begins to crumble because of his obsession 0:47 ashfur’s inner monster goading on ashfur, making his resentment grow as he watches squirrelflight be happy 0:52 the moment when he finally snaps and gives in to his inner monster during the fire and he sees his chance to get revenge on squirrelflight 1:16 the brambles around squirrelflight could represent brambleclaw’s hatred for squirrelflight (Thanks to Lemon Newts) 1:17 ashfur believes that his prey (squirrelflight) is finally caught, after playing his “game” with her 1:32 ashfur goes to the river and stares at his reflection, at the monster he has become because of his obsession with squirrelflight 1:44 holleyleaf kills ashfur, and his monster dies with him (the pale black thing kinda looks like tears to me) 1:47 handcuffs link ashfur’s spirit and his monster, showing the monster’s influence and power over him, and showing how ashfur can never escape his inner demons

I feel like jayfeather is the son of ashfur Lionblaze is the son of Bramblestar And Holleyleaf is the daughter of crowfeather-

I like the squirrel that looks like Squirrelflight at the beginning. Usually animators that make videos of ashfur usually have this and i love it. *Poor ashfur and his monsters*

I love how psychotic ashfur is portrayed with the red outlines. People downplay ashfur’s insanity because there are far more psychotic characters in warriors, but this really shows how ashfur himself is a complete anger issue psychopath.

I also love the little details like the video getting way darker in certain parts and his markings starting to drip down

I am so glad I found this channel, I keep finding gold nugget-videos, like this one, that need more appreciation Because aside from the idea being extremely refreshing in comparison to most other PMVs one finds, the visualization of Ashfur going from "o fuk, Squirrelflight don't love me "hA, LEMON LIME, MURDER TIME" is * chef's kiss *. The mild horror is just pure eye candy, a very well done and inspiring video, thank you for making this :')

This was so amazing. I loved it so much. Your art is really neat, and this really helped me connect with Ashfur. I hated him at first, but now I understand why he's so heartbroken and unstable. An inner demon threatening to break free.

I honestly feel that Ash was done dirty while he was still redeemable. He was basically used as emotional rebound for Squirrel while she and Bramble were separated. However, I do not think that his actions were ok by any means. However-however, the Ash and Squirrel arc itself was really iffy to me to begin with, and the result of the writing from the hunters’ part. Ash wasn’t evil in the beginning. Hell, he was very loyal to his clan, and fought bravely alongside the other apprentices during the battle against Bloodclan. Only after his bitterness and grief took over, he became evil.

Oh my gosh- it’s been so long since I watched this yet I still watch it with the same amazement. Amazing

I commented this on some else's comment, but I wanna share it, also in this idea, Ash is Jay's father, with squirrel Bramble is lions father with squirrel, And Crow is Holly's father with leaf . Okay but It makes sense for squirrel. Holly was like, "Im a med and windclan cats kids, ah! And my life is messed up cuz they ain't actually my sibs. So I'm not important" And jay is ashes and squirrels kid, while lion is squirrel and brambles kid. This messing their family up and holly becomes violent, then becomes this killer, while jay is harsh to everyone and keep trying to find ways to die, like drowning and stuff, and lion is trying to stay strong for all of them, but deep inside, he's breaking at the seams- Oop, sorry bout it being so long...... but I guess this song would go with it, eh?

OOOO AU IDEA TIME!!! Forgive me if this has already been done, BUT!!! Let’s get to it! What if: Squrrielflight was “the villain” instead of Ashfur? Like, she literally did say that Ashfur could harm them because it wouldn’t matter to her, “They’re not my kits”. That broke everyone!! That hurt Ashfur too! Ashfur wanted to go save her but Squirrelflight thought he wasn’t over her yet so it got her frustrated, blurted that the three wasn’t her kits, and it just goes on from there. Hollyleaf, like in the books, sees that this is a problem. Hollyleaf kills Ashfur only because she doesn’t see what may have truly happened, just that he has the potential to spill the beans. Long story short: Squirrelflight is villain for purposely portraying Ashfur as the villain. Ashfur just wanted to help at the fire scene (which is why he goes back), but Squirrel misunderstands the situation.

I don’t really like the narrative that it wasn’t,, ashfurs fault for being such a well,, the worst,, so heres my thoughts /gen I like to think that the monster is ashfur projecting onto someone, in this case the monster. It respresents all his negative traits,So Ashfur attempts to see himself as a different person then these traits, but eventually he just,, gives up. He doesn’t want to do it anymore, so he accepts that *he is the monster*, these traits are a *part of him*, and since we all know how it goes in the books,, yeah he doesn’t seem to want to change. (If this offends anyone please correct me /gen /lh /srs)

Tbh, I think Ashfur would have been better to Squirrelflight than Brambleclaw/star, because he actually cared for her unlike bramble who made the relationship an endless loop of peace, upsetting Squirrel, punishing her, fighting along side her to get her back, and then back to the start.
