There is a new bee out in the garden, and he is a "monster." This male Wool Carder bee will mate with any female and chase away any male that comes into his territory.

A+ sound design! And dang seeing the mechanics of how they fly in slow motion is always so cool, keeping the head level while the body tilts etc.

Came down to comment on both points 😏 I couldn't agree more. The footage is amazing! Capturing their body lean, legs tucked, and the hovering is so cool; it is so fascinating to watch, it is nearly addictive. Awesome.

Wow. That is some magnificent footage. I found it really hard to film bees and flies. Not like I have the equipment 😅. but still very cool.

Nature is frickin bad ass! Thank you guys for not selling out all these years! WHOEVER IS DOING THE FOLEY IS A GENIUS AND DESERVES A RAISE!!!!!!!!!!!! Take note people. That's how it's done.

This is real sound, slowed down because in the normal speed footage the bees are moving too fast for us to see what they are doing, so the footage and sound were both slowed down.. this is not foley. it's actual sound from filming in the garden.

This was one of my favorite nature programs ever. So beautifully done and what a refreshing concept; right in your backyard is an entire world we’ve overlooked. Please do more like it

About 3/4 of bees are solitary with no hierarchical structure

So there's no queen with this species of bee? So they have very basic sexual dimorphism.

Yeah they don't have a queen , only a king of a territory which is every single male

About 3/4 of bees are _solitary_ bees - they don't live in a hive or have a queen.

He recorded them with special equipment and then slowed it down... the sounds are their wings, how they move.. birds chirping in slow motion sound prehistoric. the whole film is great, worth watching it all.

The sounds are distorted because everything is slowed. Explains that in the actual program

He shot with special equipment then slowed everything down. those are the actual sounds of his garden, just slowed down so we can see because they all move so fast in real time.

@@tarjei99 - Trust me, *Nature on PBS* employs *_professional camera operators, photographers,_* and *audio recording equipment and technicians* working on their shows, including *_visual_* and *_audio editors_* during *post-production.* The film and separate audio tracks were slowed down for details to be more noticeable.
