Glad to see the Wonder Boy series (Monster World series in Japan) continue in this manner (it uses some characters, most forms and music from The Dragon's Trap and other entries, and of course the Mecha Dragon rematch in rehashed 8-bit). This game is a successor to the old Wonder Boy series, which I never played before. But I played the 2017 remake of the third game and did a video about it: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-j5_BpnXT6Eo.html The remake had new visuals and music, but the rest was pretty much the same as in the 1989 game, so the boss battles were simple and boring. But Monster Boy is not trying to imitate the old era of gaming, it's bosses are much more fun and it's a better game overall, in my opinion. It's a pretty good metroidvania with focus on solving puzzles and exploring areas for secrets. I almost got 100% completion, but unfortunately the very last chest I need is bugged and now I can't get my final trophies. Too bad. (Recent patch fixed that.)
Gellot is a lair! 2 YEARS ago he made his wonder boy dragons trap all bosses. 1 YEAR ago he made this video. So in 2018 he played wonder boy then in 2019 he played this! Case closed
The developer just announced this today "FDG Entertainment has announced that Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom will be coming to PlayStation 5. On PlayStation 5, the game will be upgraded with native 4K support while also running at 120FPS using HDMI 2.1 for some super-slick platforming action. FDG Entertainment will also confirmed they be offering the next-gen version of the game as a free upgrade for all players who have already purchased the title. With 2D games such as Monster Boy already looking great on current-gen hardware, it's good to know that there's room to upgrade further with 120FPS support, although you will need a TV or monitor that supports such high frame rates to see the results!"
I love how the final cut scene shows your character getting his ass kicked and needing a save from the uncle, but... No. No, that's not even accurate to what actually happened.
i'm getting a HUGE maplestory vibe from this game... I can point for almost each part of the graphics where it's in maplestory. the attacks, the background, the characters/bosses...

18:09 that boss is a reference to another game, I can't remember the name of it :'c But can I can remember is if you kill too much the boss will gonna change color, the attack of make fishes from the skin is the same, and I think I saw it of the emulator "Mame 32"
They both have the same mechanics but this game is a successor to a previous series called Wounder Boy. Witch did the same stuff. But was developed WAY before Shantae.

This game's series has been around for longer then Shantae. Shantae wasn't even a concept until the Wonder Boy series (this game is a revival of that series) had allready come to a close. Not only that but the last Wounder Boy game had a main character that looked almost exsactly like Shantae. If anything I would say Shantae was copying off of this game's homework. Like stealing work from an old wiki article from the 90's. This game has references and recycled material from each of the Wounder Boy games. Don't go accusing them of ripping off a series that was only bringing back an OG franchise. It's not there fault Shantae used an idea that had been around a decade prior. It's not Shantae's fault either. The Wounder Boy series was thought to be gone, they were just utilizing ideas people did not use anymore. I welcome both games simply because I like this style of gameplay. It's not done often in platforming games and both games do it well. Monster Boy also makes use of equipment and RPG elements like stat boosting gear. Witch is something Shatae doesn't do, likewise Shantae introduces layered world progression witch is something that this game doesn't do. Each game has there differences, don't just focus on the animal changing thing. Heck that's not even a huge premise in the Shantae series like it is with this game series.
The protagonist, in frog form, turning the entire room with his tongue, thereby dropping the Lion warrior on his head, makes absolutely no sense. Especially since the ancient frog, from whom he derived the stretched tongue, had no such ability!
