Definitely agree on the clarity of wisp danger. I feel like this is something, for example, that Exarch and Eater shrines do very well. You can see exactly how much danger the shrine will add to your map, and people will choose to skip shrines where the danger isn't worth the reward.

I actually feel this exact thing about the current league, Necropolis. The lantern shows you numbers for the boosts the mobs are going to get, AND you can move them around to reward knowledge of enemies. You can nullify some modifiers by placing them on enemies that dont work with them, such as a mob that doesnt use spells getting "Hinder on spell hit".

Only problem I have with lab is Izaro (1st/2nd encounters) continuing to attack after you reach the damage threshold where he becomes immune. I always hate bosses where the only counterplay is to run around in a circle and wait for them to resolve their mechanics. If Izaro would immediately cease all actions/attacks and go back to his elevator once you've dealt enough damage, lab would be a great mechanic that I would love to engage more with.

Even with that being the case, Izaros is still in my opinion the best designed boss in the game. He feels like you are fighting a dark souls boss with clear attack telegraphs, clear audio cues. Also how you fight him changing each day depending on weapons and such is just really cool design for an ARPG boss. I still love running lab each league just because of Izaro.

The reason why he still does mechanics is because the game waits for all the additional things like portals, effigies, gargoyles etc.... to spawn from below the arena (you know, on the 3 out of 4 corners of the arena). Once the 3rd one has spawn, the encounter immediatly ends

@@ChunkyLover69420 it makes a pretty significant diffrence when you phase him in a matter of seconds and then spend longer running around in circles than you did damaging him, multiply that by however many runs you have to do for the thing you want and it really becomes a slog, if he phased faster id enjoy lab a good bit more personally^^

I like his voice lines but determining a new emperor by making them run a deadly trap gauntlet, instead of their leadership skills seems kinda weird. But his ghost-goddess stand is cool though.

The fact that ghazzy is getting praised in these comments while DM is getting shit on says a lot about this community of viewers. Love you Ziz, but damn bro this is rough. Ghazzy was incredibly toxic during this interview, and actually got minor called out by Jonathon for being so. On multiple occasions DM reeled it back in when it was going downhill with no brakes. I guarantee I have played this game longer than anyone else in the comments, and I am not at all an elitist. This idea that new players don’t belong in PoE is the ONLY thing about this beautiful game that I don’t like. Having years of time to sink into a GAME does not make you better than anyone else. Ziz spends a lot of time making guides for new players to learn mechanics and content, then those same people who watch those videos are like “fuck this new guy who doesn’t know anything”. It is wild logic.

yup 100% agree. ghazzy had some really aggro moments in this interview and I thought DM's enthusiastic approach was really nice. that being said I think all the questions were pretty good and we got a lot of solid and, IMO, positive news about the game. community been a bunch of dicks about this interview in particular though. not a fan of that behavior.

Would have loved a lot longer podcast with just DM and the GGG staff. DM was asking really good questions that me as a 15k hour player was nodding along with, while Ghazzy was having GGG devs telling him to not be as rude.

27:30 The game is being designed around Softcore Trade environment. Meaning that, having mechanics that may appear far too unfriendly from HC perspective is not something the developers are afraid of, or something they even consider too much. 1:44:30 I think people have PTSD from lab helmet enchants. I fully agree that lab is pretty cool as it is now. I wouldn't mind having it in PoE 2. 2:57:30 I agree so hard with Jonathan on the feedback and I like a lot him saying it out loud! And it's great that we have DM here who is a player who started just recently so he can provide relevant feedback from the new player's viewpoint. It is a recurring thing with developers: Katsuhiro Harada, the game director for Tekken sereis from Bandai Namco, also likes to stress it when taking feedback - say what YOU think and experience, not what hypothetical people can or cannot probably be thinking or experiencing.

Lab traps instantly get better when we can use WASD to move. Navigating the traps in those narrow corridors takes way more mouse control than anything else in PoE, and misclicking can result in just running the wrong way into a sawblade. It's not a big thing once you have a ton of experience on those cramped maps, but early on, it's super clunky compared to the nice open maps you're usually on

You make a good argument for giving the player more granular information about how much they are increasing their challenge with league mechanics, it's a delicate balance for GGG to keep by obfuscating numbers to make it exciting to learn the mechanics, while clearly communicating to the player how their actions are impacting the game. I'm with you, that they should err on the side of informing the player, rather than hiding things that will effect the player.

Question to ask: now that we can pause instances, would it be possible to queue for poe royale and be able to have a prompt when it's ready that lasts like 30s, and when you accept it pauses your instance and you can play poe royale, then come back where we left off.

personally my issue with lab is that the traps are not consequential enough and not skill-based enough, you can make a build that can pretty easily ignore them, so you tend to feel like you have to just run through them, and the traps also arent layed out in a way that feels intuitive to dodge which also adds to that issue. a better version of the lab, to me, would be a version where you dont have 3 fights against izaro but only one at the end, a more challenging one perhaps with a few phases, and there is a set amount of rooms at every single lab (different room kinds but a consistent amount of rooms, lets say 2-3-4-5 for each lab difficulty) before the boss if youre there for ascendancy or the fonts, but there are also a variety of rewarding but difficult side rooms that contain all the big loot like the grand spectrums or the emperor jewels etc. that in combination with changing trap layouts to make them a bit more intuitive, and making the traps actually deadlier, would make the lab a genuinely fun piece of content to run for a lot of people in my opinion.

I gotta say, the segment about how they're taking a hard look at a lot of the crafting systems and currencies in PoE2 is probably one of the things I'm most excited about. Can't wait to see exactly what they have planned, I know I myself do not engage in crafting in PoE1 for a lot of reasons and I'm curious if these changes will make it more fun/accessible.

nice interview. Regarding soulbound, the only issue i see is that when the items that are not tradeable make your character really powerful and the way to get them is hard for the average player, the top players get much more powerful and trade gets more impacted.

You don't want an opacity slider, you want a contrast occlusion slider. A contrast occlusion shader would make it so something like large thick beams of lightning can appear more thin or thick based on the slider.

Imo you want something like what soulstone is implementing currently: Not scaling clutter with aoe, a lot of skills are being reworked to not be obnoxious, e.g. instead of an ice crash like skill having huge spikes as you scale, it will have thinner shorter spikes with a blue outline. Or the projectiles instead of just scaling their size will have basically a sonic boom cone that scales. (Not applicable to poe because proj size isn't a thing) Also most aoes have some builtin transparency. And I do think that monster skills should overlay over player aoe in some way, be it player skill opacity or having an overlay that shows an outline of the attack like a wallhack.

Just as a thought, I think the reason a lot of PoE 2's marketing has been towards people that wouldn't play PoE 1 is because a lot of the changes in PoE do seem geared towards making it less scary to the people that wouldn't play PoE when they see the skill tree, etc - but at the same time they know that PoE 1 players are almost garenteed to give PoE 2 a go the moment they have access to beta, but also that the work of trusted streamers in the PoE will be the fire that gets existing players to play (if they where on the fence). So I kinda feel like the current focus before now has been smart - of marketing to people that wouldn't play PoE 1, but then hopefully trying to make sure that PoE 2 still ends up being a game that PoE 1 players will love. I think since we have the beta coming in June is why we're suddenly seeing a lot of information and interviews published now in 2024 as well which is aiming to answer PoE vet questions and clear any confusion that may have been created by the marketing of the game (such as the "can only druids use bear form?" etc).

Regarding ghazzy's take on visual clarity, he's a minion main, and with minions the better your build is, more clutter the minions put on the screen. Also, better your build is, the more you are able to handle - > more mobs on map - > less clarity - > graphics culling stepping in - > infinitely less clarity

@@Aetheric It's not the same because you can actively stop using those skills to get a better look. Minions are a lot harder when you have an AG, a Golem, a bunch a spectres, SRS, etc. all cluttering around. You're obviously not going to despawn them or anything.

I like the idea that if you get more T1 you get a slightly better animation, T2 and T3 slightly less and under that you get the normal animation, it just makes it so that if you get a good one you might wanna look at this one first, it might be good it might be shit, but you know it's the one you want to look at first.

Great interview! POE2 does seem like its being marketed to new players which I guess I get from a business perspective - hopefully they are thinking of us OG players in some of the undisclosed decisions. Ghazzy needs to chill if he wants more interviews some of his comments/questions were cringe WOW. 1000% agree needs to be aspirational content - I can't kill all the Ubers (and Ive tried many times) and Ive been playing for over 10y - totally okay with that! As for POE 1 I really hope they consider reworking map bosses and their loot tables and uniques. Similar to how they did the skills asking what does this boss do what items make sense to drop from him/her (cold, chaos, physical etc) and same for Unique items what niche or role is this trying to fill. Id be find with 100x lower drop rate on most uniques given they are actually made good/build enabling.

I mean the only reason wisp make it so hard is mainly just the insane amount of DR monsters get ontop of archnem modifiers ontop of map modifiers including delirium sometimes. if u get rid of their crazy ehp u can effectively still build enough defenses to deal with very high wisp counts.

Also in terms of toughness, delirium for example, they get more ehp from 80 to 100 (~*3.5) than 0 to 80 (~*2.5) but it's not clear.

@@TheAluvisify it's technically linear, it adds a fixed amount of resistance, but it works in the same way adding 10% res from 70% to 80% is 50% more ehp and 80 to 90 is 100% more ehp. Imo it's good that it scales like that (you only get marginally more rewards for much harder content), but it being hidden is annoying, if when you pressed alt it said "monsters have 95% less damage taken" (I don't remember the actual number, but it's something like that) it'd be fine

Game freeze on death (shaper visit style) with the option to see a death recap at the frame(s) you died vs unlock the game and let it play out like normal after you die (effects continue, mobs move around, etc.), then you can choose to respawn. Think this solves a lot of problems and I can't imagine it's difficult to make happen using post data. Clear information for how league mechanic mods effect mob(s) just like map mods do. More information IN GENERAL about interactions for damage dealt and damage taken, considering conversions, scaling, etc. Having a clear guide for how much the more, increased, multi, etc. is ACTUALLY effecting my damage taken/received. I would think a new hideout bench that lets you see that stuff, something like "The Seer's Table" or something where you can input type of damage taken/dealt (hit vs dot, etc.), the damage type itself (phys, etc.), and then how much the damage will effect your EHP given your defenses with basic arithmetic to show it. Like PoB but not as insane in-depth lol.

Something that I want them to think about in POE 2, is the multiplayer. Currently, there isn't much of an incentive to play with a friend. You only get 6 portals for your map. Each person that you add uses a portal. The drops improve with more people, but the mobs get buffed. The added damage from the extra player should allow you t push through content faster, but it also adds a higher chance of being 1 shot. The times where you survived with a sliver of health would now be a death with the extra person. I enjoy playing POE, but the few friends that still play, when we are all on, we either level a new character together, or we do our own maps and talk on discord. I'm not sure the best way to make it more beneficial to have multiple people. Maybe add a mapping system where you can both put a map in and you get an amalgamation of both maps, drops improve and you each get 6 portals each. Even then though, different characters and different people run maps at different rates, so someone always feels left behind. I'm not sure the fix, but I would love for the game to become more party friendly.

Just a correction, monsters in Path of Exile do not get increased damage scaling with party size, the only effect on monsters is monster life, the increase in life from additional party members does not even increase their stun threshold and is not implied in ailment calculations like freeze. On the rest of your comment, I would enjoy a PoE that you can play together with friends its just not the kind of game that can facilitate that with how different builds play. Its already more profitable to play in a party, which is something GGG does not want, I doubt they would push it further in that direction.

50:00 - this is so true. MF looked like a lot of fun and great way to get some money for builds i want to try and ive been duoing with a friend. But now whenever im on all they want to do is MF to make money and I feel like I have to not cause im their friend but because its the most effective use of my time. Why spend 3 hrs farming by myself in T16’s when I could spend 1 hr MF’ing. I have enjoyed MF’ing but ive started playing and SSF char on the side because it helps me enjoy the game since im not worried about playing the best thing according to market value. 2:24:00 - as someone who always manages to get cold res on my end game EA bow every single time im kinda unsure how i feel about this as it lets me get other stats in other items 2:59:50 - what if instead of a regret giving a single respec point that it scaled and that it gives more respec points the lower level a character is. So levels 1-33 it gives 3, 34-66 it gives 2, and 67-100 it gives 1. And then vendors can instead give regrets instead of respec points so early game respecing is a lot easier and regrets still have value through the while game. 3:15:20 - i feel like people shouldnt really get banned for this merely because while they could be breaking TOS, the rule is 1 input = 1 action and if they blind left click to scroll wheel then each scroll wheel click is a click which would be a 1 to 1 action per tos and not bannable. Is it faster than humans can do it, sure but the rule I always hear is the one I mentioned before.

Obscurity in information has always been a real issue. For instance for the wisp league, how the fuck do you know the amount of power wisp still has to reveal the dark ? It should be a meter !

I like lab, what I don't like is if I get dc'd and I've lost the whole run. If there was an option where I get dc'd, if I load back in I have the option to either continue the same run at the same point. Other than that, I like running lab a lot.

I loved races, especially the short ones like burst. Giving out old mtx that no ones buy with an option to turn them in for a discount on one you want would be nice. I think it'd make profit without being obnoxious, you get to sell an mtx that might not have been bought otherwise, even if you're making less of a profit. E.g. you get 100 point discount for a 300 point mtx.

about the too many drops. Would be interesting if they add end game mod to have map drop 1 currency that can be traded in for other currency. The issue with this though is trying to balance price of traded currency.

I think gold late game is good, because it's basically gear shards. As long as it's just used for what is basically gwennen gamble, and maybe a nerfed rog. It's basically stacked decks that don't give you currency cards.

The problem with the midtakes as well, is because of the way the passive tree works, if you make a fundamental misjudgment about what directions you should go and how you should path, then when you get towards the bakc half of the campaign and start to hit a wall it could cost you litteraly 5-8 times as many regrets as you have/could get. If this player is a new player, then they can not be expected to "just reroll bro". People need to understand that new players might have played for 15+ hours at that point (especially if they are playing a garbage build, not res maxing, not gettting life, no movement speed or skill ect). They are not going to replay all of that game judt becuase they died one to many times, did some googling and found that their talents were fundamentally mis spent

Regarding Ziz's question about lab, in the middle of the video. By design (gameplay, lore and music) - I love lab. My problems are: If you bought 0 stash tabs, lab is super frustrating, because you need a lot of free space in stash to take all the cool loot (yes I hoard loot). If you disconnect for any reason, lab run is over, and lab run can take me up to 30+ minutes. On my previous, less strong pc game crashed on me several times in lab (3 times even in the last "reward" room, and as that was not a problem with normal maps - I guess, it was because of memory usage of several full sized maps loaded), on this pc it crashed, before I changed to Vulcan render. If lab would save progress on ds, and had temporary stash space (before you'll go back to town), I would literally have no problem with it.

1:14:00 the problem is with making a map boss harder than a rare is currently those rares can scale so high they can make some end game guardian even pinnacle bosses to shame in damage or tankiness. That when you scale "difficulty" in PoE1 what that actually translates to is usually just unforgiving, even impossible to deal with damage or agonizing slog of a fight. Like in, the rares don't have mechanics much, some things just slap you and that's all they do, if you're melee, you get slapped by some super juiced content and you aren't facetanking every single thing in the game then you die and there was nothing mechanically you could do about that besides not engaging (and some mods don't even allow you to do that). Difficulty instead of being challenging and something that is manageable to overcome instead becomes "how hard can this kill you before you can kill it". Which is why often times the strategy is to kill things before they even can touch you, because mechanically speaking there are just some things you cannot outplay and can only either be tanky enough to live or kill the thing before it can touch you. I do not see any way they can make map bosses "more difficult" that isn't just a thing that punishes the lower rungs of the build ladder while the top builds will be unaffected.

I don't think a bigger ID on a rare is mobile-brained, it's literally a loot filter noise that you get in town instead of on the floor (so long as we can tune it like a loot filter)

About visual clarity and the developer's take on having to be more powerful, I just have one word for it: DELIRIUM. I like Delirium. I just don't like how it looks. Is it necessary for it to be as difficult to look at for it to function well?

okay imagine this: new stat: item quality. When you kill a map boss, the boss drops identified items. Item Quality adds a scaling modifier which makes it more likely to roll higher tier mods and more associated mods (ie smart loot). Get rid of most equipment drops other than these and randomly encountered uniques.

The concept of the labyrinth is fine, but I actually find the traps kind of hard to see at times. By the time you might be farming the lab with regularity, it's usually not an issue because you're (probably) having enough recovery that the traps aren't that big of a deal (so then why bother with them?). But earlier on, they can be kind of hard to see and/or navigate in PoE's brown-on-black-on-red-on-black-on-brown environment, especially for newer players.

I'd like to hear some questions in some of these interviews about 3rd party tools that players often use to improve the gaming experience to the point of almost being mandatory and if they have plans to introduce tools ingame to aide with some of that. Examples being POB, Awakened POE Trade, Filterblade/Filters, Trading UI elements to replace TFT, and etc. I'd also be real curious about QoL elements that they may be introducing to POE2 that don't currently exist in POE 1. It'd be awesome if you broached some of those topics in your interview Ziz

not even just damage. but durability as well. I have run a few maps where i had almost 10k wisps and I cleared everything but I dealt absolutely no damage to the triple empowered boss. I spent 15 minutes and It lost maybe 1% of its health so i just gave up the map. ran the same map again (was a mirrored map from a cart box) skipped the wisps it took me 12 seconds to kills the boss. mind you I am running with a few million damage. in recent leagues I have started utilizing some kind of destroy corpse via skills or gear, cluster jewels etc to avoid having to deal with dd from things like bosses

If items dropped identified you'd end up spending way more time configuring your item filter. Early game you have less points to respec, so it's fine that you have less respec points.

for me the only problem I have with lab is that I am just running, and not killing nearly anything. I just run through each room until I get to Izaro (which I actually think is a great fight) then repeat 2 more times. Some interactive features would improve the quality of lab by alot for me. This is the same reason I don't care for the campaign its about killing as little as possible to get to the end and not die.

i think gold shouldnt be rare but its bound to your account u cant trade it or anything but for gold finding like tujin or expadation u should be able to invest into it in its own way of like a merchant farm where u can fint wandering traders in your map that sell uniques curency ect ect its not gonna be the best farm by any means its just gonna be to get uniques bace curency ect no rerolling them ect but it makes it so gold isnt useless or falls off to hard but it still exists and still works into playing the game and buying scours and alchs from merchants cost gold and just makes early mapping easyer and makes it sitll have a use

I literally didn't even know wisps gave scaling stats to enemies... All I can see as a player is that more wisp = more items I can buy from the masters so I've been gobbling up 100% of the ones I can see.

I find it interesting how the devs talk about how they don't want a feature complete PoB in game because then it pushes new players to think they need everything planned out before they start playing. This goes directly against the new player experience of POE1 where every single content creator/youtube video pushes the "You have to follow a build guide otherwise you won't enjoy the game and you'll brick everything" line extremely hard.

1:16:59 Another reason why atziri works better than other uber bosses are the mortal fragments. I don't know why we can't remove all uber entries from the atlas tree and instead make normal boss versions drop uber fragments for the uber fights. That way I don't feel bad doing bosses like Maven or Sirus without feeling to miss out on rewards because I simply farm fragments that are necessary to enter the uber versions in the first place. After that I would have the option to just sell the fragments to people that have actual builds to farm ubers. Doesn't make any sense to me why this still is not a thing... If anyone could explain to me why no one ever talks about this it would be much appreciated SeemsGood

very valid take imo, i allways feel ''guilty'' killing a boss if i dont have it uber'd (i dont really like most boss fights so thats allways) since i just know im missing out on huge potentials. the caveat ofc being elder&shaper, i love going up against them because i know that at the end of the day i get a fragment i can sell for someone who will go and use it to fight the uber variant

God. The best quality of life change will be when they show dps changes in PoE2 and not require the player to have a 3rd party program need to do that. Especially for people like myself who are on a Mac and cannot find a workable version so equipping new gear/gems has always been a guess for me.

My biggest problem with lab, is that ill kill down to where he should phase and he will continue to fight me for the next 10 seconds instead of phasing.
