You know what? This fight may be the most humanlike monster in the series. It rarely seems to attack by itself, instead opting to utilise all sorts of "weaponry" and tools in the form of scrap and stuff. It's just fantastic.
Kind of terrifying, this giant insect has the strength, dexterity and intelligence to construct and puppeteer a giant robot with its own silk, in a matter of moments. It's probably capable of reasoning, it just has no interest in doing so.
After you defeat it you can see the whole ruin stage collapse and fall into the sand. Actually it not only can hold up a mech suit but also the city stage itself. The Japanese name of the mission direct translate into “ The phantom city of the fool”. That may be more accurate.
MH Sunbreak: You can now summon a mecha with silkbinds, but Ahtal-Ka sends a cease and desist directly to your quest hub. Urgent Quest immediately and conveniently pops up. Bonus points if the Ahtal-Ka is a variant that has blonde hair, a mask and is really good looking, and also gets like, what, several OVAs and a spin off series?
Ahtal-ka itself was a genius. That mech wasn’t constructed by humans it was just parts and bits all held together it’s silk. Some monsters are actually smart, like fatalis welding hunters armor to its own hide to strengthen it, but this? This is just pure intellect shown by a bug. Awesome
Fun fact: Ahtal-Ka gains its golden coloration by cannibalizing the males of the species. The more she eats, the more golden she becomes. Just gives an idea on how many males this one in particular has eaten.
Mad props for MHGU. In a game where the flagship is an Elder Dragon AND a Deviant, 2 of the strongest monster types, the final boss is a Neopteron, which is considered to be the second weakest monster type
Me: “A bug...? A BUG is the final boss?! There are plenty more dangerous monsters *puts a tower on its back* “Ah ok I can see how it would be a bit if a danger if it puts a dragonator or cannon on its back and walks around. But still there are plenty of other monsters that” *giant machine is pulled out of the ground and then piloted by said bug* O-O “Oh..I..uh....impressive.....bit more dangerous than I had thought.”
@@Pikana thats the thing about athal it might just be the smartest monster in the series and it apparently is very successful as a member of its species because females only get that golden color after having eaten alot of males...which attracts more and you can see where this is going it sets trip wire traps that causes junk in the background to fly at you it fires fucking dragonators at you....its a smart bug.
And then..., not happy enough attacking you with a tower and a dragonator, piloting a giant mecha twice and smashing you with a "Double Cross" giant wheel, it summons 4 dragonators and use them to snipe you and as barrier shield...
I don't think it's possible to make a monster fight that's cooler than Ahtal-Ka, it's one of the most unique fights in the series, and in my opinion, the absolute best boss fight the series has to offer. I really hope he gets added to Rise, he would fit so well with his silk mechanics being similar to the silkbugs.
You're technically right, and most of the fights in MH has their own style Lao-Shan Lung: Scaling Ceadeus and Shagaru Magala: Ambientation Ahtal-Ka: Epicness Xeno'Jiiva: Discovery Narwa the Allmother: Feeling
Well who knows. If they find a way to make a neoptereon something to take in mind imagine what could happen having a bird wyvern to take in mind(with this I mean one like the Velocidrome,Gendrome, etc).
The end of this fight is so beautiful, it's like the end of ancient war, tornados convoked by gods, heroes fighting to defeat a gigantic menace, and after killing the cause, the storm dissapears and a gorgeous sun is shown floating in the sky.

@@crewcutter2030 Rajang for me, while my first Rathalos Battle was indeed traumatic, i cannot forget the Super Saiyan Gorilla that i always though that was a ox for his horns.
As cool as the mecha is, I don't even think it's the best part of the fight. The best part is, when you finally break the mecha and dust clears, you see these two glowing red eyes with a giant fuck off wheel as one of the best versions of Proof of a Hero starts playing. The final phase is such an incredible battle and it shoots this monster easily into one of my absolute favorites in the franchise. Like, my thought was "Alright, asshole, you threw metal girders, a Dragonator, and a fucking mecha at me, what are you going to do now???" wheel *Oh.*
It is also quite fitting. Ahtal-Ka has fought with human weapons the entire time, so what is the last trick up its sleeve? A Wheel, mankind's first invention.
I love how in the intro cutscene, the camera begins up high, before quickly moving downwards to actually show Ahtal-Ka. It’s like the game itself is saying “Wait this is the final boss?” Makes the reveal of the Empress’ Throne much more impactful, since you don’t expect a small (relatively compared to other monsters in the game) bug to have so much power
Looking at how fucking awesome this fight is, I can only imagine the absolute insanity of re-creating it in MHW's engine. I don't think any high-end hardware could handle this fight at that visual fidelity. xD
@@someone-eo1zf I play on a high-end PC. As in, 32gb ram i7 6700k processor and 1080ti. 4 Behemoth tornadoes: stable 200 FPS at 2k. 5 Behemoth tornadoes: 5FPS due to how the game has been optimized. So to even add this, they'd have to go through and optimize the entire game much much muuuuch more.
I heard that apparently it’s hard to for the MH team to work on bug monster types. It’s why Nerscylla got delayed where instead of appearing in Generations it redebuts in Generations Ultimate.
In my heart of hearts, I want to believe that Ahtal-Ka is the reason the Lao in GU was on the run - the Mountain Dragon took one look at Ahtal Neset (the junk mech) and got scared.
I think it'd be sick to fight Ahtal-Ka in Rise. It's use of silk against your use of wirebugs, grappling up the mech, it using versions of your own silkbind moves would be amazing.
When Ahtal-Ka pulled that mech out the ground I thought Wtf but if you listen to the sound it makes it really does sound and remind me of Tom Cruise "War of the worlds"
Regardless of how many times you farm her. The mech coming out always feels awesome and the final phase with the music is just perfect. You need to pull yourself together and be a man. You need to fight! God damn best Hero’s Proof that has ever existed I and I feel will exist for a time to come.
Being someone who finished the Japanese version last year and have moved on to MHWorld, this is already pretty nostalgia-inducing. The two BGMs in this fight are up there in the entire series with other great pieces and the monster itself is an amazing addition to the world of Monster Hunter. Should revisit the game when I find time.
John Wayne maybe , but take in count that xeno is a alien , he even comes from a meteor , so is probably that other xeno comes , but if it lands in other side maybe he can grow up to be adult
Absolutely one of the best fights to come out of the Generations games. I love how this fight switches between the small but agressive Mantis and the gigantic mech construct. Much more interesting than Valfalk and Nakarkos.
@@rf9690 I've always loved the evolution of Monster Hunter's Monsters, how the first gen was "normal" and now the fourth is full of twisted shit,so sad it got a reset in World
mhw is freaking amazing. dont get me wrong... but this... this has shock value that safi doesnt have. name any one monster that surprises you as much as this thing. lao shan lung was huge, yeah, but thats all it was. safi is cool, but its generic and you know what to expect. i come to monster hunter for monsters, but i get a GIANT FREAKING MECH BATTLE! again, every other mh game is great, but this is amazing.
Goddamit. My GenU game came yesterday (as well as a Switch case) but I still need to wait a day or 2 for my actual Switch to arrive. I can't take it anymore!
this fucker legit has got to be one of my fav MH final bosses ever, the ONE time they didn't put another Elder Dragon as a final boss they put a golden MECH RIDING MANTIS as a G rank final boss "sky soaring rocket comet dragon?? nahh put that as the normal mode boss, mantis that pilots a mech? THAT'S our final boss!"
My best memory with Athal ka is when I and a group of hunters all used Prowler to beat it. The quest took us 14 minutes and not single player carted.^^
I really think this should be in World. The mechanics and thematics go extremely well being a monster which uses its environment as its weapons. Think of all the things which World's terrain already provides players, but here's something which could use it against you. Pull down the rock traps on your head or activate poisoncups against you, etc.
I never got very far in GU so I had no idea this monster existed but now I want her to show up in Rise so we can have a silkbind kaiju battle with both of us wyvern riding
I love how people were clowning on Frontier for years about goofy and outlandish monsters and then capcom releases a literal mech fight in a main game lmao
Me: Lets see what you got ahtal ka. I hunted a lot of elder dragons very easily. **ahtal ka builds a mech with his webs** Me: Well thats just terrifying
