Might as well put this out now. For those wondering why there is a difference in quality between the roars. For some reason, the roars were fine during editing, but the quality for the old roars dropped after the upload. I did also use different methods of getting the old and new roars as well so that also could have been a factor
Oh yah. It almost seems like the old one is quieter yet erilly ecos across the landscape. Kind of wish they had done something similar. Especially when visiting at night.
Almost all of them: Yeah, they improved the old roars. Rathalos and Rathian: Damn, this is completely different. Zinogre: CopyrightFree_GenericWolfHowling.mp3
idk if i like the new teo/luna roar, i mean the old roars are memorable, but at the same time the news just make them much more regal and lion-ish which they’re supposed to be based on instead of a screech
I believe the old cries were supposed to sounds more like a trumpets, which also make sense, because Leostra and Lunastra are also based on Manticore monsters, which are said to have trumpet-like voices. They probably dropped this to make them more lion-like in World.
the big difference I feel between old and new world screams are old world: tone setters, new world: attempting to make the monster feel animalistic. Old world roars have more body to them, making them feel more all encompassing. When they roar, they are now all that really mattera. New world, they use more higher pitched and sharper noises to make it feel more animalistic, and make it feel like it's coming from one point. The monster feels like part of the fight rather then most of it. I think that's pretty reflective of the gameplay design too.
Kyurem Unique as in it sounds different from other roars by being so un-unique that it is unique but then again that does not matter since no one will remember the roar at all, at least World’s Jho roar while obviously being a tweaked Lion’s roar is distinct and recognizable as heck.
@@josh7379 It *was* unique for the fact there are no wolf-like howls. Even then, it had a "monstery" flare to it so it wasn't just a direct rip of a real NORMAL wolf. In what world should a gigantic, electrically charged, reptilian wolf sound like a literal basic dog?
Y'know, aside from the fact that they're higher pitched, i never really noticed the difference between the old and World rath roars until i saw this video
I genuinely think Yian Garuga's new roar is 100x more terriying. Just the ferocious sound of a pissed off rooster mixed with the droning of a crow's call.
World roars are better (much better in some cases). Only the Raths' roar is kinda debatable: I honestly like Word's better cuz the old one seems a bit robotic but I can see it being very nostalgic.
I honestly love both World Raths' roars took me a bit by surprise lol I think the only ones I have a slight problem with would be the Brute Wyverns' roars (excluding Brachydios he sounds exactly the same) And I love Zinogre's new roar, he actually sounds like a wolf (whoa kinda controversial opinion)
@@reshi606 I could say the same for the older roars. The sound quality is much better in world, monsters now have more than just one signature audio cue and its mixed into almost everything they do. Whenever I hear a rathian do a particular screech, it tells me to dodge to the side because a tail flip is incoming and it's unique in the way that it can be discerned as a good audio cue alongside its visual cue. In addition, you can unravel the layers in the new roars; for example rajangs has an underlying snarl that can be heard, and brachydios has some samples that sound like they threw a pig oinking in there. There are fair criticisms like Zinogres in particular lacking dynamic structure outside where it counts (along with straight up having its death scream ripped from nerg), but mostly I just see people hate the new stuff because its not the old stuff. Stop it.
@@akaru9532 Rathian has always had different sounds to signify things like the tail whip coming and was always noticeable. Yes, some don't like new be cause it's not old, but most of the old is being thrown under the bus for things that aren't even actual problems. Just things for people to justify the new more. Things like Rath's roar. The deep below was great for it sounded like a creature with large lungs (as flying things should have). Now it's a giant wheeze. Zinogre: from a deep, monstrous howl that held recognisable wolf characteristics, to a literal wolf.
Old World Rajang: One of the most unique and badass roars in the series to go with an already over-the-top monster conceptually. New World Rajang: *Look how they massacred my boy.*
I remembered how Teo and Luna sounded exactly the same as Alatreon, now they sounded different. Then there is Kushala in MHW which for some reason sounded like Fatalis when attacking.
It's a real shame what they did to Zinos roar. From a badass oversized thunderblight/dragonblight to a oversized wolf who got stomped his tail by something.
Personally I think it’s because they never intended for him to be in the game, but people never shut the fuck up about it, so in all I blame the community for this.
Maybe it's just sound quality, but the newer roars seem to have more of an impact and feel a more intimidating and well, like a very loud roar that would leave you shaking
I am not a fan of a lot of the new roars, like the Yian Garuga, Barroth and Uragaan, and with some like the Deviljho the original roar is drowned out. Specifically Deviljho’s where the booming bass at its beginning is drowned out... then there’s Zinogre... But there is a great amount of detail and love put into the ones that work with their redone roars, like the Rath duo. Then the Kirin sounds? Absolute improvement. Truly amazing! Anytime I hear these while fighting with my headset it is truly a heart pumping treat! Hit or miss, yet still amazing when it hits! World truly brought a new standard and I love it!
I gotta disagree with you about the Yian Garuga, the new one still feels so alien (like the old one) but at the same time it is more intense and terrifying. To each their own i guess
Well, i like a lot of the new roars, especially yian garuga's, it actually sounds scary and terrifying, while the old one sounds like a generic bird sound. And no, deviljho's roar in this video is different than what he actually sounds in the game.
Yian Garuga: Its new roar is definitely better. It sounds more menacing and fits the monster itself better. Rajang: While its old roar isn't bad, it sounds too much like an electric guitar. I think I prefer the new one. Lavasioth: Doesn't sound that much different from the original Barroth: I honestly don't know whether I prefer the old or new roar. I like the old one, but I'm also so used to hearing the new one. Uragaan: The new roar kinda sounds similar to the old one to me Deviljho: I think I prefer the new one, but the old one is still good Brachydios: Sounds almost the same as the original except lower pitched Glavenus: Didn't change much honestly. I don't notice that many differences aside from the quality (also these were two different roars being used) Zinogre: The old roar is definitely better. It doesn't sound as intimidating in World as it did in the old games (and Rise.) I'm glad they brought back the old roars in Rise. Diablos: Sounds almost exactly the same Rathian/Rathalos: I like the old ones better, but the new ones have grown on me pretty quickly and I'm so used to hearing them. Tigrex: I think I prefer the new one, but the old one is good too Nargacuga: Much like Diablos, sounds almost the same as the original Barioth: New roar is definitely better and more memorable. Kirin: Not a whole lot has been changed to be honest. Lunastra/Teostra: Gonna be honest, while they're not bad I don't think their old roars suit them that much. Kushala Daora: I think I prefer the new roar
Eko Subandie I personally disagree, I do think their roars were relatively unchanged, but they did receive minor tweaks. Though their still very similar to the originals
@@thewolfofcomedy5966 Only if you don't include its intro roar from Tri. The one used throughout World is identical to the one at the end of its Tri intro cutscene. (Though yes, lower-pitched than the one used any other time.)
Yian Garugas old roar is so memorable for me, it was one of the few brick walls that I hit when I first played monster hunter. It’s movements are so fast and unpredictable that I had a hard time surviving. Eventually it just clicked and I could evade everything it threw at me. That roar was something I loathed and loved at the same time.
I really hate what World did to the vast majority of monster roars. They all sound so generic now, and most of them try to compromise with the older, more unique roars by having them blended faintly into the background. And what they did to the Raths... completely unforgivable.
How does Yian Garuga sound generic now? I can understand people getting upset at Zinogre’s roars, (don’t understand the hate for the raths roars, but I like em better), but how does each roar sound generic. In fact, world may be the most diverse MH game in terms of roars, Bazelgeuse to Legiana. Yian Garuga to Rajang. Most roars fit better.
@@gojigiante A few things about your comment: 1) You're cherrypicking. Garuga and Rajang are two of a small handful of cases in which a roar actually got better in the 5th generation. My assertion is that the vast majority of returning monsters (including Deviljho, Barroth, Rathalos and Rathian, Tigrex, etc.) were given roars that sound significantly muddier and less distinctive than their old counterparts. 2) I was pretty obviously talking about the updated roars and not the new ones. Legiana and Bazelguese have great roars, but they're also new to the series. 3) Zinogre's new roar sounds like dogshit, so that's one point we can actually agree on. 4) The reason why I hate the Raths' new roars is because all of the scale and menace has been stripped out of them. Their old roars were bassy and forceful, and they were superceded by a huge breath that made it easy to visualize how massive and powerful a Rath's lungs are. Their new roars sound like the monsters are 25-year smokers in desperate need of a Ricola and a glass of water.
@@rathalomaniac6212 So how does Tigrex, and Deviljho sound bad? How does Alatreon, and Teostra/Lunastra sound worse? I like you’re description for the new raths roar, 😂😂😂😂. I mean, they still have some of their original roar when they die, so there’s that at least.
Is it me or have the original roars just had the volume turned down in this video to make the World roars seems better? Your telling me the Diablos roar was that quiet? Haha, no.
Alright here's my take. Prefer the new. rajang, uragaan, teo/luna, barioth. Prefer the old. Zinogre, rathalos/rathian. Like either way. Barroth, deviljho, brachydios, glavenus, diablos, tigrex, nargacuga, Kirin, kushala.
I kinda think that the old Teostra and Lunastra sound better than the newer one. The rest sound absolutely amazing, but I like the shrill screech of the Original. The newer one sounds much more like a Lion, or a regal specimen that is an elder dragon, but the old one has the flare and hair raising properties to it. Like it's telling you to be afraid of the Emperors of flame.
am i the only one what thinks that in the game the roars are WAY to quiet i mean i have a subwoofer and i dont get the jurasic park feelings cause my attack are way louder then the monster roars
Roars that were improved: Yian Garuga, Rajang, Lavasioth, Brachydios, Tigrex, and Kirin Ones that were downgraded: Uragaan, Barroth, Glavenous, Devilho, Zinogre, Diablos, The Raths, Barioth, Luna and Teo. Ambivalent: Nargacuga and Kushala I was impressed with Rajang's new roar. It sounds properly meaty like it should be. Deviljho's was downgraded quite a bit. It sounded terrifying in the main series, now it sounds like a slobbering Jurassic Park dino with stock sound clips layered on top. Zinogre is just sad and the Raths sound like they have something caught in their throat. Barioth I think I'm most disappointed with. The old roar sounded like it was echoing through a snowy canyon while the new one sounds out of breath. Luna and Teo just snarl now. They don't even have a proper roar. I don't know but a lot of the newer roars sound muted compared to the old ones. They lack the oomph that should represent them.
what’s wrong with uragaan’s roar? the only thing missing from the old roar is that random metal hammering and most of the old roar got stitched into his moveset noises. also the only thing removed from the diablos roar was the echo at the end which i don’t (personally) mind
@@ambulance-kun5284 The best way I can describe it is the old roar sounding like a powerful bellow while the new roar sounds like he's coughing up phlegm.
Nope, the only ones that were downgraded: barroth, zinogre, and the raths, the other ones were either improved roars or the same roars as their old ones, but different volumes in this video. Uragaan: sounds almost exactly the same, and no, it still does the chin slam, just not included in this video. Glavenus: still almost exactly the same, the same with deviljho, diablos, and nargacuga. Idk what makes you think that diablos' roar was downgraded while it's actually still the same roar, just with higher quality. Barioth: definitely much better than his old roar. His new roar sounds like a terrifying snow monster while his old roar sounds like a broken microphone. Luna and teo: just different roars but with their old roars mixed a bit, they just made them more lion-ish in world. Kushala: also improved roar, it actually sounds more terrifying and scary. Uh, no they don't. They just sound different in this video than they actually sound in the game.
Apart from zinogre, baroth and the raths,id say these aren't too bad. Biggest downgrades were the raths and zinogre. Biggest upgrades were deviljho and kushala
Jason Adjiwanou I personally like Zinogres new roar as well, but just the roar itself, not how it’s used. If I were to change zinogre, I would make zinogre’s cutscene/original roar be also used outside of said cutscene while also keeping the new roar but use it a little less. It would mean both roars would be present and give zinogre a little more variety. Them outright replacing the iconic original roar was a bad decision in my eyes.
