Something to note is gathering palicos don't get extra anomaly materials. I generally go double dog for those hunts since their increased damage + buddy part breaker means more anomaly materials. I bring double gather palicos specifically when going for drops like mantles
@@Hibernial break as many parts as possible, and keep an eye on the daily special dango. There's 2 that give extra quest rewards. I believe luck also works but don't take my word for it, I've never used it.
The palamute silkbinder also comes with a built in 'pinning' status that builds up on monsters as they attack. Every once in a while, a monster will get tied down with wirebug silk to the ground as if you'd just slammed it into the wall with a wyvern ride. Helps a ton for getting monsters to hold still relatively still for a short while, although they won't be totally helpless during that time. it's also really hard to understate just how insane the silkbinder's damage can get. Stacking range up, crit up, and pierce up skills on a palamute while also giving them an offensive scroll like flurry strike or blitz, and they'll be throwing out truly insane damage, especially if you're willing to give them an appropriate elmenetal weapon. And of course, jumping with a palamute into a dismount is a free full charge aerial bonk for GS and Hammer.
I think it gets overlooked sometimes amongst the other stuff that you can hop on the palamute during the fight to sharpen or use consumables while running at doggo speeds. Life saver when your build can't fit speed eating/sharpen.
Gathering palicoes are literally the only reason I still use palicoes. They're cracked. I don't think I really need the extra damage a canyne brings so I'd just use two gathering palicoes if canynes weren't so good for moving around the map. I see people talking about the wirebug and fast travel points but in most places the maps are just too big not to waste loads of time getting around that way. I like the dogs way more thematically, though.
@@vitriolicAmaranth they can't pilfer anomaly mats tho. Keep that in mind. Dogs are better for breaking monster parts, so for those you'll want to bring dogs.
@@stryker0ae Anomaly mats aren't the only things you need to upgrade things or craft armour. In fact, they're very little of what you need. I wouldn't be surprised if they're used in the new armour extra skill roll system, but for now they're pretty much just an extra 10 raw and sometimes some extra element on each final-form weapon.
@@vitriolicAmaranth yeah actually they are literally the only thing you need to get weapons to rarity 10. Literally the only material. So wtf r u on about lol. Also, they are by far the "hardest" material to get based on the monster difficulty being the highest possible. That being said I'm only letting people know the cats can't pilfer anomaly mats.
@@vitriolicAmaranth If you can stomach the massive dodges, I find that Evade Extender 3(boosts your midair dodges too by a ton!) and Wirebug Whisperer 3 combined with good usage of great wirebug spots and fast travel mean I usually get to monsters BEFORE the hunters with dogs do, maybe at the same time/slightly behind at worst. Bring a palico with summeown endemic life for constant 3rd wirebugs and you'll never fall behind.
Oh solo hunts, one of each is definitely my preferred choice. There are palico skills help keep me alive and the sniffy palamute moves and the extra pocket space are so helpful.
The dps of the palamute is insane. One palamute with the right set up can do at least a minimum of 5000 damage every hunt, and sometimes even more than 10000 on some monsters. While a palico will struggle to even reach 1000 damage in most hunts. In multiplayer, the palamute can outperform some hunters in dps if the hunt goes on long enough.
I've been running dual palamutes lately. Double paralysis, double silkbind turret, double shiriken. Range attack up, crit L, range centric, and status up.
I don't see why we couldn't keep them as a mount. They let us ride small monsters in Iceborne before it, so why would they get rid of this feature in the next game?
I'm there going to keep tge open world style that's in World and Rise I think having the Palamuts be a rideable buddy works well so players have a faster way to get around the map. Especially since wire bugs are speculated to be a MH rise only thing.
@@KenjitsuHokori True. I'm at MR200 and no longer really farming for materials and just going for fast hunts. I do have to say gathering palicos were my go whilst leveling early on just because of the pilfer and getting a nice amount of extra mats after each hunt.
I always bring 2 gatherer palicos with status attack up skill + shock purrison (the equivalent of a hunter trap). Ill stick with them probably until the end unless i absolutely don't need any mats anymore. Still need to craft a couple of end game elemental CBs and is planning to craft end game LBG at some point. If you stick 1 type weapon you most likely don't need to farm this much, but if you use 3-4 weapons frequently like me, having two cats spamming pilfer is a literal godsent.
I'm a bow main, palicos with Go, Fight, Win and Power Drum both are a must for me. I am the DPS so I don't need palamute much. I only love when I get free purrsion traps from these kittens. I really appreciate the early helped from palamute.
If I'm looking to slay monsters fast then I go with 2 Palamutes, if I'm farming for materials then I go with 2 Gathering Palicos, If I just want good DPS and utility then I bring 1 Palamute and 1 Palico, if I'm playing Multiplayer then I bring 1 Support Palico because that would be more useful for my team
I've found that palamutes are great for when you don't have your sharpness management 100% in your build yet. Slap on one point protective polish and speed sharpening, and just hop on your palamute and sharpen whenever you'd normally be sprinting towards the monster.
If you're sharpening on the go why would you need speed sharpen... like there's no way you're gonna get to where the monster moved before you're dude swipes 4 times.
@@stryker0ae for sharpening mid-fight. Protective polish, even when maxed, doesn't last an entire engagement so you'll need to sharpen mid-fight to keep it up. You can usually find time to fit one swipe of sharpening in, especially if the monster likes to move away from you (e.g. almudron), but 4 is much harder. You could probably make it work, but you're not giving too much up to fit speed sharpening into your build unless you're running elemental.
@@thefilliesarecoming oh yeah if ur sharpening mid fight absolutely. It's one of the skills that's basically "default" for me to max, simply because I need to stay in purple sharp. But ur original comment made it sound like you slotted it to use while sharpening on the back of the palamute haha.
@@stryker0ae I've basically defaulted to palamute and he's become the reason I don't need to socket anything in regards to aharpness. Plus I just get a kick out of launching off my doggie and going straight for the spine.
i used the Palamute since day 1 for one simple reason i wanted a Dog buddy since i started playing Monster hunter and now that we have them im never using a Palico again i love my 2 big buddy's way to much and i hope Palamutes are a permanent addition to the series
I really wished even if you picked a palico, that you can still ride around on a palamute. Even if recon points makes it more bearable it’s still annoying to zip around after the monster. The gathering palico makes it so much better seeing as how I’m stilling trying to get more mantles
In my old rise gather hunts I got good with using the wirebugs with evade extender 3 you can out pace most dog riders if you know which hills you can slide down
They seriously do an insane amount of damage for NPC companions. I think they do more than followers too which is hilarious. Barrusu I think did a video showing that on an SnS speedrun the canynes did 20% of the overall damage (or 25% as much), and that's compared to a speedrunner's damage on an optimised set. Mental.
I always use Palamute, There is also a really good healing build for your palamute that vastly outsines whatever the Palico can do. Tho i need to start focussing on getting a better one as im still using my starter xD
I pick palamute because I simply prefer dogs over cats. But when I'm playing solo I have them both. Saying that palicos are definitelly more useful and fun to play with. They got several new abilities that can be used on top of what they already had. While palamutes got single new gear that replaces one of two slots. Sure it's quite powerful but at the same time kind of disappointing. The last thing I'd like to have is another best in slot gear with already poor variety of useful tools.
Just for people who need this, for palamutes Status atk up Range atk uo Range centric Atk up L Jelly bag X Bring two of these Palamutes and you can get up to 4 para in 10 mins , with the 1st one happening in about 1 min into the hunt
@@kx7670 Fairly sure it's Attack L > Pierce, especially considering that the turrets aren't always active. It's more of a Pierce > Crit L (but depending on RNG, Crit might occasionally be better) last time I checked some Japanese webboards. So the priority is Attack L > Pierce = Crit L.
@@Zero0mtk I see, I'm mostly reiterating from AngBata 11's Palamute video at 4m 27s. The Status build gives up Attack Up (L) but retains Piercing Attack Up.
I still bring one of each on solo hunts and love them both. I made some for ranged and some for melee attack, some that can do status, element or either. I made a pair just for the final boss that runs ranged and gives me heals lol. I personally use so many sets with protective polish that I like having a dog for sneaky sharpening. Even with speed sharpening, these monsters will smack you so fast lol
I can't give up my kitty. He's so good with that Kittenator, he plunders extra materials, and he heals me when I need it. Plus I made him look like my late cat Neil, so I don't have the heart to hunt with any other buddy.
Palamute is more fun and strategic when it comes to hunting monsters there speed and jumping ability to climb on auto helps with escaping near death scenarios
love to see that people both appreciate the merits of both means devs made a really good point to sell both on situations which we players can choose based on our needs
Palamutes are amazing for damage and keeping the pressure on monsters Palicos are unmatched in support, defense, and utility Overall I prefer the amount of openings a palico can create on top of their gathering abilities. However, don't sleep on the Palamute, try bringing two along on a hunt as see how quickly the monster can go down (especially with status proccs and elemental damage.
Palicos have significantly more uses for me. Never really cared for the traversal aspect of palemutes considering how easy it is to move around the map thanks to wirebugs.
100% agree with this! I'm a scrub so I couldn't even count how many times my Palico saved my life with heals or nulberry-effects. Palamute isn't gonna save me from carting.
Still, two Pilfers Palico are must-have :) Especially when on top of that they buff your attacks, stamina, heal you and make a trap for a monster. But... Pilfer skill not working with Afflicted materials in Anomaly quests =((( Luck skill also not working... Afflicted materials real pain. Is anyone knows a better way to farm them?
I've been bringing a Fighter palico and a palamute with me on hunts. I even gave my palico that new Fighter cat secret move to buff the palamute. The palico buffs both me and the palamute while it also has Healing bubbles and the shock trap. I'm sure it isn't as much dps as bringing two doggos, but it's been fun watching my palamute rip monsters apart with his new toy.
When using light bowgun, I love having the doggo with me as it lets me pick up more slash berries or bast nuts on the way to the monster and have just a little more ammo.
Palamutes are my preferred Buddies all the way, even before Sunbreak's Silkbinder, Sniff 'em Out, and Palamute Bag. Even with small arenas like the Coral Palace. And mostly for one reason- mobility in battle. Yeah the mobility across the field is great too, but you can sharpen your weapon on a Palamute which I use in battle. It means I can still move while sharpening. That way, I don't have to slot Speed Sharpening in order to not leave myself wide open to keep my weapon at optimal color sharpness. This leaves my size 1 slots more open for the likes of Steadfast and Flinch Free. I also use a Palamute in order to quickly chase monsters that like to yeet themselves across the battling area, such as Ibushi, enabling me to keep up the damage. Also it's just really fun to leap off the Palamute and do an aerial attack.
I prefer dual Palicoes. I switch between bringing 2 Gathering when farming materials, or Healer+Fighter/Buffer for tougher hunts. I found the Healer to be especially useful in multiplayer, as randos tend to be really bad at keeping their health in check.
I use HH and a paralyze status palamute with the silkbind bowgun. The paralyze and silkbind gives me more openings and the addtl dmg the palamute gives makes my hunts more efficient and faster. My secondary partner is a bomber palico with sleep weapon. Gives me additional opening and extra dmg too.
It goes again to the debate about having palicos for extra material vs speed run the monster using palamutes. Tbh, without my palico I would miss a lot of rare drops. However, once I get the set that I need , I just switch to palamute to speed run and increase rank.
It may just be because I'm a solo hunter, but I've always just used both buddies. Though I am really glad the Palmutes got a gathering pouch and the silkbind bow.
The amount of free hits two, or more, palamutes can give outweighs what palicos can bring if you want to do a quick hunt or are going after a difficult monster in my opinion
Didn't even mention that you can mount and sharpen or heal on the back of the palamute so you're not just a sitting duck trying to regain sharpness. My main issue is the long and empty hallways (that weren't as big an issue in World) in Rise and Sunbreak that monsters like to run through several times during the fight, I will always bring a palamute to chase those cowards down. Yes you can go to a recon point, but you can only do that one time per point per quest. Dog makes staying on your targets heels and staying safe while sharpening much easier.
Say what you want, but I am dog person. Safer, and complements my 90% gunner main tendencies. Also the silkbind mini-HBG they get is fantastic in party hunts because it locks monsters down for a while.
The palamutes are terrible at climbing walls. 90% of the time, I just hop off and climb up the damn thing myself. That's the number one reason I don't bring them. Plus, the cats are great at stealing mantles.
I have a fighter palico strictly to buff me and team and a palamute who has surikin and ballista who has a Para weapon. So palico for bufgs and mute for status affects.
Question: When you run double Palico with Felyne Fireworks on both, do you get multiple fireworks? Or do you is it the same cooldown? Because double fireworks sounds very broken.
Multiple fireworks. But only one can be placed at a time. The second one will be useable after the first has been used. In multiplayer, only one player's fireworks can be set at one time. All others are blocked from being used.
@@dserdsing Yup. If your cd is off on felvine. I should mention there is a short delay in the availability of the second firework, but it will pop up as ready after a bit.
If I'm farming materials, especially online then it's a gatherer Palico, otherwise the speed and DPS of a Palamute, especially one set up to heal you as well can't be ignored in those clutch moments against monsters that hit like a tank no matter how beefed up your armor is.
It is great that Palamutes got the Silkbinder. I just think they could've gotten more. Palicos got new Special Support moves, but because you have a choice between several you can mix it up. But the Palamute Silkbinder is so powerful, that I feel like it is mandatory.
Sorry but I've gotten SO MANY mantles, gems, etc. From the cat. Like I swear I get more rare sh*t from the cat than I get myself. The dude has great luck, and I just can't justify getting rid of that. Not to mention the amount of times he's saved me with a well timed healing bubble.
I generally bring a fighting palico in multiplayer. Especially if im bringing a hunting horn Both the horn buffs and the cat buffs stack meaning a horn like izuchi horn can buff the teams affinity by 50%! 40% if its valstrax Attack and def buffs also stack and if say you use bead of resonance on something like izuchi or astalos you can stack the best of both worlds affinity and attack. Lastly i paired that palico with felyne power up to maintain the buffs on my palico and make the other buddys go ham for a while.
Palico all the way for me ^^ I always run with 2 (fighter and gathering) And at times you're faster anyways by fast travel and make use of great wirebug.
Saw a yt vid where two palamutes hunted the Master rank rathian in 5 mins, without hunter damage. All the hunter did was capture it and buff them with hunting horn. Basically a summoner playstyle if you're into that.
I always run gathering palico, and now in Sunbreak I need the extra support. I’m finding skills like dereliction and bloodsport where I need a way to mitigate the constant tick damage with something more than just super dango recovery and gourmet fish. The healing clover bat secret move for palico adds that extra level of regeneration, and makes you almost invincible.
I play entirely solo so I go for a more balanced team with my healing palico and a DPS/status palamute. From reading the comments it sounds like I might need to invest in a pair of gathering palicos for the rare drops though.
I dont bring my palamute with the silkbinder since he always wakes up the monster with it, and since im a greatsword main i miss out on a free 6000 damage wake up attack.
If you are using a HBG or LBG and you have a Palamute set to be next you and have the Buddy Friendship skill equipped while using the healing blade scroll the Palamute can act as a pseudo healer while putting up damage with the Silkbinder gear
For followers palamute as main with a healing Palico as secondary is the best in my opinion. The healing Palico will only apply skills so healing for extra survival
I just use both. Palico for healing, support, and gathering materials and a palamute for damage, status effects, and a quick ride. I used to go double palico but the new mounted gun and the functionality of swapping skills and abilities to give them range up, status up, etc, means I'm getting sleeps and paras all over the place.
