Monster Hunter Wilds Trailer Breakdown: Secrets & Hidden Details! Everything I could find and speculate on the new Monster Hunter Wilds Gameplay trailer. #monsterhunter #monsterhunterwilds #rurikhan
I can’t wait to see gunlance. That’s my main weapon followed by greatsword and dual blades, so seeing what they’ve done with greatsword so far has me excited for the rest.
giving the smithy the name of "gemma" is also a nod to lil miss forge being the one in charge of armor decorations in the caravan and after seeing the GS and its dynamic defensive action at the end is giving me high expectations for the shield weapons
One little detail I just remembered is that the Japanese name of the Sanctuary, the map in which you fight Shagaru Magala in MH4/MH4U, has a different name in Japanese. According to the fandom wiki (I know, not a good source but please bear with me) the Japanese name is 禁足地 which, according to google, roughly translates to *Forbidden Place* but I've also heard that it can be translated to *Forbidden Land* (shoutout to @jakobmonsterhunter and his Alatreon video). Monster Hunter Wilds takes place in a new area of the MH world called the *Forbidden Lands*. This caught my attention and I used the true and tested method of ctrl+F where I pasted 禁足地 in the search bar in the Japanese version of the Monster Hunter website. Lo and behold, the term was found 4 times (twice in the "LIVING WORLD" section and twice in the "CHARACTERS" section) all in the same paragraphs were the term "Forbidden Lands" is mentioned in the English version of the website. With all the references to MH4/4U in the trailer, this can't be a coincidence, right? Guys, am I paranoid?
i want ma LANCE! ESPECIALLY ACE LANCER IS POSSIBLE THE GUN IN THE TRAILER. but i doubt that its him his not a wyverian so he wont live that long... but if so... deym i need to see all the ACEs and guild marm at 4.
the hard c in ceratonoth is probably a reference to keratin, the protein which makes up many hard external parts on mammals including nails, horns, and armadillo scales.
Something to add to the idea of the story being about finding Julius and Nadia is that after Fatalis in World is when we got the namedrop of both Aiden (Ace Cadet and Excitable A-Lister) and Julius. And Aiden asking the General to send his wishes to Julius. I think it's reasonable to assume that Wilds was beginning development, at the very least conceptually, when Fatalis dropped. So this could've been foreshadowing both the Legends of the Guild movie and Wilds. This could also explain why we had Legends of the Guild. I may be spitballing here, but I think it's interesting to think about. Never played 4U, but I'm excited to see it's importance to Wilds. Side Note: Capcom should make a port of 4U to modern consoles for us to play.
I feel like if it really was Julius and Nadia going missing then the guild would've been on it from the jump; they're well renowned hunters and if they've gone to a so called forbidden land, they wouldn't have gone without the guild knowing about it and keeping track of them. Like, it wouldn't make sense for their supposed kid to be the first to bring attention to the fact they've gone missing in such an infamous sounding place.
I can't wait to see how this story unfolds. I, for one, want no spoilers. And I agree that we should (eventually) get an updated 4U. Especially if we get so much 4U love in Wilds. Man, I am so excited for this stuff!
Kaname actually never planned to released Fatalis in IB, like what he said back then. It was way too soon for the flagship, however since many players called out Fatalis. He and the team fulfilled the wishes.
@@Rusty_SpyNadia and Julius could have been missing in action in an uncharted territory after being asked by the guild to investigate something. And with no one around to ask for help, they went with a seasoned hunter which is us and asked us to go on an expedition to find them. Knowing the guild, they'll make this mission confidential, just a few veterans know about which is why we've got the best smithy the guild has to offer and a seasoned handler as well. The guild could also be the one that introduced us to their child nata. Now in this part of the story I'll let Capcom decide what happens next. But if this is how the plot turns out, I'm all for it because it sounds interesting. Oh and also, there's a place known as forbidden lands in the first MH stories game
The seikret save reminds me of wirefall but there is one important difference: you have to whistle BEFORE you get hit, so you have to foresight that attack, which is MUCH more balanced than wirefall.
There's also the factor of distance between yourself and your seikret. Like, even if you whistle at a good time, I assume there's no guarantee that your seikret will get to you before the monster can follow up their attack.
that's what i'm thinking, it adds the convenience of not having to wait through the invincible downed animation while also not breaking the game like wire fall did. nice to see a group of devs willing to learn from previous games
I actually think wirefall is pretty balanced. In the early and even mid game it's pretty strong sure. But throughout the game it becomes a more complex and skill-based mechanic. Even super early game monsters like Great Izuchi teach you that you at least have to somewhat think about the direction you wirefall in. Then later around the mid game you have to learn that sometimes it's better not to wirefall at all. And then theres some monster attacks where you HAVE to wirefall. Or sometimes there's only one direction to safely wirefall in. Eventually in the late game wirefalling becomes something that you can't just throw out willy-nilly and for a lot of attacks, if you want to wirefall at all, you have to do it very precisely. Then of course there's the resource management aspect. Do I want to get my LS spirit gauge straight to red? Or do I save a wirebug in case I get hit. Is it perfectly balanced? No. But is it broken? I wouldn't say so.
@wholewheat7031 wirefall didn't break the game lmao It's a resource mechanic. Monster Hunter isn't designed to be a game that you fail at, at least more than 3 times in a hunt. Most players will fail some quests, but the expectation is that you ultimately succeed (ie less than 3 faints) most of the quests you embark on. This isn't a souls game. That said, monster hunter is a hard game, and the fail/success state is variable based on how smoothly the hunt goes. Wire fall allows you to exchange dps (losing access to certain powerful moves) in exchange for a powerful disadvantage state, to use a fighting game term. It's an interesting choice to make, if you know how to play the game well- do I want to get out of this recovery animation faster and continue the assault, or take my time so I can save wirebugs for big damage when I get the opening.
sand oceans and no mohrans would be a shame, it makes me think they're going to add them to the game and maaaybe a lot of the other large elder dragons from 4U (might be copium)
something I love about the focus mode thingy is that the running animation for the greatsword is the exact same as the OG MH trailers and also it just looked like the frontier sprint.
one thing i love, that i havent seen any reactors mention yet is that one line from the Palico "One of them;s got big spikes on it's back"...while the previous line "never seen a herd this big before" tells me 2 things...1. the guild knows what a Ceratanoth is, but this herd is abnormally large. and 2, it seems like the Ceratanoth that the guild knows about dont have spikes. which means the ones WE encounter in game are an evolved form/ subspecies never before seen.
15:35 I really like the Dalthydon. They really remind me of wildebeest and its interaction with the small leviathan looking monster ambushing it heavily reminds me of those nature documentaries where you see a crocodile ambush-hunt a wildebeest while it’s drinking water from a river. Just an incredible neat and realistic nteraction between a natural predator and prey
I'm shocked he didn't realize the possibility that the two armor sets you see at 49:34 are the sets you get from killing the two monsters we were introduced to in the trailer.
im just hoping it's not like the quips you hear in multiplayer quests in rise, or at least they give us an option to turn it off, the voices are fine but grinding out quests with cat puns would unfortunately get pretty annoying
The voice hunter is interesting, because I wonder how it will factor into selecting a voice for your hunter during character customization. Part of the reason why MH style games don't have voiced protagonists is because they want you to be able to select from a wide range of voices, but that sort of thing becomes cost prohibitive if the character also has a lot of lines, unless you're "Saints Row" of course. I'm guessing while our Hunter will speak they probably won't speak a lot. The God Eater Games for instance had many voices you could choose from, at the cost of the Player only ever having 1 real story relevant line in each game. Because the only other options I can think of are either a massive VA Budget, Less Voice Options, or Generative AI. Regarding the new Handler being close by, I actually do hope they lean into that. One of the things I've thought of while playing World again, and in particular looking at some of the criticisms of the World Handler is that a lot of people get on her case about 'not doing anything'. This could be an opportunity to correct that. At the very least I think the Handler should be the one who rescues the player in the case of a Cart. I understand the tradition of the Felyne Cart, and I'm okay with there still being Felyne's involved, but at the very least I think when the player carts there should be a quick animation of the Handler dropping in with Smoke Bombs and getting you out of there. In addition though, I would really like it if this game basically plunged you into a Blackout when it came to Fog of War. If you aren't actively in an area looking at the monster it should not appear on your map. Except, this could be another thing the Handler can do. Have her flying around different vantage points and calling out monster locations and other potential hazards or environmental traps.
Well Ace-Cadet/Excitable-A-Lister/Aiden returned in World and they mentioned Julius by name during the whole Fatalis thing. So Little Miss Forge wouldn't be the first character to return.
the 3 seasons feature is going to do wonders for the game to make the hunts more refreshing, adding that randomness factor that will affect the land and monster behavior
I would love to see more Hunter to Hunter assisted moves like: Sword and Shield: springboard ability like dd2 where you launch a Hunter towards the monster. Lance: a move called “fortress wall” where if you are doing a Power Guard, another Hunter can crouch behind you and get the benefit of the guard, but also the monster gets flinched as if hitting a wall. Greatsword: “assisted charge” where instead of dealing with the recoil of each charge, the other Hunter would help you by kicking the sword up after every charge, and it would do extra damage to cover for the assisting Hunter. (Sorta like Helldivers 2 shooting the rocket launcher). Gunlance: Tank Mode, by becoming absolutely stuck to the floor in guard mode, you can shoot more rounds than the mag allows because another Hunter would do maintenance (reload, sharpening and cooling). Anyways, you get the idea. More synergy like Army of Two but in amore natural less cinematic way
Imo your comment is a great idea, imagine how it would improve the "co-op" element of multiplayer in Wilds. Like let me add something to your idea. Yknow how people are annoyed when they get upswung by Hammer and CB users? They should allow upswung players to still input an attack after theyre sent flying mid air. Imagine upswinging a Dual Blades player and then it leads to a Levi Spin on the back of the monster 🥵
If they actually go away then I'm not going to see them as weak spots, but as potential weak spots. And they only become weekend. When you get take the opportunity, that's why the other ones are gone. You missed the opportunity.
I 100% agree with you Ruri. For the themes of music, the names of the music and some of the places, I'm pretty sure they're going for an ancient civilization theme like the Maias and Azthecs.
Ruri I’ve got a theory that I haven’t seen anyone comment on yet. Ever since they announced the chatacabra my brain has been curious about an amphibian living in a desert. Usually this implies that there is a heavy rain season. And then I started noticing how some rock formations are very reminiscent of the coral highlands. And then on the lightning rods, is there a reason why the bottom half of the rod is covered in rock? I like to think that coating the bottom of the rod prevents the lightning from spreading in the water if there happens to be water on the ground when the lightning strikes. My theory is that this place also floods heavily, creating a whole other water or wetlands ecosystem. Then it dries up again forming a cycle. Maybe it’s linked to 2 elder dragons in the area that rotate in. What do you think?
Yeah and that would make a lot of sense : storm with maybe heavy rains -> desolated harsh lands (with the potential deaths of monsters serving as nutriments for nature to grow from it). -> bountiful and colorful plains the rocks also look like they got shaped by tremondous quantity of water.
Thank you so much for this vid, awesome observation skills and exactly what I needed as there was sooooo much in that trailer I missed most of this. Hype intensifies!!!!
i do hope they show a presentation of the gameplay loop will be, there is so many details in this trailer that i must know! i appreciate the insight and other details i missed, rurikhan! good vid
Something that i haven't seen mentioned (haven't finished the video so if you said it in here I'm sorry), Alma's name translates to soul in both Portuguese & Spanish (you did say this at the beginning), but Gemma's name can be translated as Gem from Spanish (the pronunciation of the name seems to indicate this is correct) so her being a blacksmith and crafting gems fits her
@@Beltorchika12 you're correct, the 2 Ms would make it Latin more than spanish, my point still stands on its meaning (i gotta be real, i forgot gema was only 1 M, and my primary language is spanish)
Nice Video Ruri! Regarding the Pilars, you might be right since another connection we can assume is the name of the Region we're going to: "Forbidden Lands".
If we do get an ancient civilization and it covers how they were wiped out during the great dragon war, I think that it would be interesting to find out more
I always treated my character and all the hunters speaking with palicos same way Han Solo talks and understand chewbaca. Both speak in their own tongue but can understand one another. My palico is meowing but I understand them and vice vers.
One thing I haven't seen others pick up on, is the conversation between Alma and your Palico when encountering the Ceratanoth. Alma says "I ve never seen such a big heard before." Implying that Ceratonoth exist somewhere outside of the Forbidden Lands. Then your Palico follows up with "That one even has a big spike on its back." This would imply that the dorsal horn isn't a common aspect of the monster outside of the Forbidden Lands, so its an evolutionary trait distinctive of these harsh lands.
I was thinking also since she said she’s never seen a pack that big before that maybe the Elder Dragon around is threatening them and causing them to group up in larger packs to keep safe.
@@bubsssbunny i could totally see one of the goals for the research commission in the game being to make the forbidden lands safer by investigating the local ecosystem. Trying to figure out why this/these particular areas are so dangerous and why they have such drastic shifts in weather
@@bubsssbunny Whilst probably related in some way to a potential unconfirmed ED, we can assume that the Ceratonoth with the large Dorsal Horns are males and act as lighting rods. If you know how lightning works, lightning [although not always in IRL] is supposed to hit the tallest object in an area, but is also likely to get attracted to metal. So basically the Males evolved larger and larger lightning rods, to protect females with, and as they became able to protect a larger area more females joined a male's harem, creating such large herds.
I feel Alma's VA is the same that voiced Miriam in Bloodstained and Jessie in FF7:Remake. Or Kira Buckland, she's been getting some meaty roles these days. Sounds familiar anyway. Gemma sounds oddly like Tara Strong, and I'm not sure Capcom could afford her?
I have this feeling in the pit of my stomach. We are going to see Ahtal-Ka, but it'll use different old civilization tech to make it's mech form and fight different.
I'm not sure that's the Caravaneer's jacket specifically, given that the sleeves and stitching are very different, but it is totally a Caravan jacket with the logo on the back. (Remember, the Man also had the same logo on the back of his jacket, it was not just the Caravaneer's thing. It was a Caravan thing.) At first I thought Gemma was just in another Minayle situation where she was just inspired by her, but the plushy and ESPECIALLY the Caravan logo make me think she is totally Little Miss Forge all grown up. And given how young Miss Forge was at the time of 4U, it's possible that Alma doesn't just look like Sophia, she could be her daughter. The two of them side-by-side are definitely giving me big and lil sister vibes (adoptive sisters at least). Also if Nata is actually Nadia and Julius's kid and we're going to look for them I WILL LOSE MY SHIT 8D
Great breakdown Ruri, very enjoyable and not over exhaustive at all imo. At the end there, I was thinking Royal Ludroth for the hammer user myself, but I could also see Great Jagras
I've spent like the last twenty minutes Googling images of Julius and Nadia and trying to compare them to the render of Nata to see if I can spot any clear connections and I've come up empty-handed aside from raising a few questions. (A sheepskin scarf? Is he from a place with a colder climate, perhaps? Julius _is_ from the far north.) He has some beads on his one wrist that at first I thought were cowrie shells but they appear to be made of stone or bone instead. Nadia certainly has lots of beads, but hers were red and blue instead of white. Interesting detail I did notice: Nadia's feather necklace and Julius's feather earrings both use the same kind of feathers, conclude from that what you will. Also Nata has a cuff on his left wrist that we can just see the side of in the render and hardly at all in the trailer that has some kind of insignia on it and I am DYING to get a better look at it.
I’m just going to call you Ruri Vidya from now on. Fantastic coverage of all the news, and more. Can’t wait for more goodies next week + Shadow of The Erdtree release coming up soon after!
Rurikhan: "capcom spent money on voicing the hunter so u wont be able to turn it off" Also Rurikhan: "capcom spent money voicing the palico so u will be able to turn it off" Makes sense
I never said you can turn the palico off. I suggested they should do it. Hunter speaking and palico speaking are wildly different things from an immersion standpoint. Also with the Hunter I was referring specifically to cutscenes, but I didn’t make that clear.
@@rurikhan I don't understand how its wildly different from a immersion standpoint? Maybe to you but to me I prefer silent protagonists for MH. So I want a toggle for both. In Rise I made my hunter silent and it was better like that. If there isn't a toggle then the only other option is MH language or Japanese. I know cats have always talked but I would prefer the older sounds too. And even though I don't like this I hope there's a option for old item pickup sounds or a sound pack like DD2 has.
I wonder if the monsters that will show up will be randomized depending on whether a sandstorm is happening or not. For example, you fought a doshaguma in a clear day so the only other monsters that time was chatacabra. Both the doshaguma and chatacabra went on a turf war then out of nowhere, a sandstorm appeared which made the chatacabra leave the place. You thought you were safe and then a snake wyvern suddenly showed up and went on another turf war with the doshaguma. I wonder if the changing of weathers is gonna be like this
I thought of something funny what if you smack the chatacabra’s arms when there slimed your weapon gets stuck and you have to quick time pulling it off before he gets a hold of you
the whole starting a hunt seamlessly seems pretty cool but how would the reward screen worrk is it gonna be like an expedition where you hunt a bunch of monster then u get 3 or 4 matereals per monter when u go back i hope not that would be very unrewarding you talked about it but imma comment anyway for the engagement
In Davi Vasc's breakdown video on the first trailer's music, he referred back to music from previous games, that whenever Monster Hunter uses synth-based music, it tries to set an "other-worldly" tone. And in MH: Wild's logo, because Capcom wants to move away from using numbers for the title of each generation of games, you see the number of dragons that correspond to the generation. And in the logo, you see a very "cybernetic" looking dragon, that was speculated to hint that the game will focus on the Ancient Civilization.
I will be curious to see where the skill expression will come from for greatsword since a big part of the weapon was proper positioning. Will be interesting to see what other weapons focus stance does. Reminds me a lot of some Frontier stuff they did.
just sad how there are people who doubt the decisions for the hunter and palico speaking. ofc the devs will for sure put an option to turn it off. no voicelines have been the staple since the beginning, and to implement an option to turn it off is a given
freedom unite, 4U, WORLD and WILDS are all connected. huntsman = freedom unite and WORLD/ICEBORNE Ace lancer = 4U, legends of the Guild and WILDS Aiden = 4U and legends of the Guild, WORLD/ICEBORNE
I love long videos from you and gaijin. Can't wait to hear you guys on the next podcast again. Y'all madey days bearable with the podcast when rise came out.
Voiced protags are cool but they can also come at the cost of the voice options we had before. I hope there's a decent balance of quantity/styles of voices because I do like having my Hunter sound the way I want. Anyways this looks fun so far. I'm hopeful for this game.
Im hoping for one of those clash attacks for gunlance where we can shove the barrel of the gunlance in a beasts mouth and charge up a wyvern fire, that would be amazing
I get that voice characters is probably going to be the norm but I hope there will be an option to keep the hunter and the Palico old school. In Rise the hunters yapping was absolutely obnoxious to the point where I didn't want to play anymore. Same will go for Palico and I hope there will be an option to keep characters like the Handler quiet too.
How cool would it be to have the lance work better on the mount to make it more unique! Like how knights would lance on a horse! Would be a huge W for lance mains like me!
A few thoughts here... Girlfriend Reviews is the handler! 😂 Amazing. Hope we see the Insect Glaive in the next trailer!! Hopefully, we'll be able to wishlist Wilds on Xbox soon! Happy Hunter!!
Do you think the Ceratonoths be gunlance/lance materials? (Also, I think their name is based on keratin, and it's not uncommon for C to make a K sound.)
I am not sure how I feel about this new tenderizing mechanic. I dislike the tenderizing in Iceborne because it was 1) so strong that the game was balanced around it, thus tenderizing was not a neat damage bonus, rather not tenderizing was a neat damage loss. 2) The clutch claw was the only way to tenderize, but the clutch claw was not precise, not implemented well with the movesets of the weapons (with the big exception of the Lance, the only winner while SnS, DB and Hammer had some pity moves threw in as an afterthought and the other weapons had nothing), it took too long to tenderize, and the monsters could easily shake the hunters off with them taking full damage. Add 1) and 2) and it was a recipe for disaster. In MH Wilds, we will just have to hit a part consistently to trigger the tenderizing, but certain weapons will be more favored than others (GS and Hammer can access more easily weakspots as opposed to SnS and DB which often need to attack other parts and stagger/trip the monsters before going for the weakspots). At least, if Capcom wants to try new mechanics, it is a good thing they try them in the base game: if they are unbalanced or poorly implemented, Capcom can course correct in the expansion. Introducing the clutch claw in Iceborne was a mistake as now the game as a whole is permanently left with a defective mechanic at the core of its gameplay.
Will the co-op/multiplayer be more fleshed out this time? Meaning will we actually be able to go to the town and vendors and see the people in our party?
Im so excited to see what each weapon type gets for the focus moveset, switch axe in particular im so interested in. The focus moveset for greatsword looks absolutely mind blowing, i just hope these moves retain the necessary skill of use that each weapon type has needed in the past.
One thing i think would be a good tradeoff for the seikret would be the monster slows down significantly when you do things. Like the scene with the bowgun and you slow down to aim, maybe it could he that way for everything used on its back. Just a thought
Man so much nostalgia from this! The same excitement i had for monster hunter world/iceborne and all the previous titles! This is going to be game of the year for me! Cannot wait for june 7th and 2025!
now that you mentioned how an elder dragon could potentially affect the state of the locale, it would be pretty cool i think if as hunters we go into these places to create the conditions for us to be able to fight elder dragons at all, instead of it being a quest you accept from an npc
Looks stunning and I´m hyped for it. It´s really nice to see old characters returning. Voiced palicos isn´t someting new as MH Stories has done it already but it is suprising to hear it in their mainline.
The forward rocket from the bowgun appears to me as an upgraded version or the wyvern mine you get un worlds. Then upgrade with mod to make it fire forwards this appears to be that imo.
They probably *should* do a regional variant of the Morans but considering how many people asked for them they will probably be faithful recreations with new features
Damm it Ruri why did you make me so excited it’s still 2024 😂 . In all seriousness you are my favorite gaming content creator and you have heavily impacted my life with your videos. Thank you for everything and I can wait to start this new monster hunter journey
23:30 Something you didn't mention is that the cutscene that plays for the doshagumas is in a forested region (if you go slow you can see dripping water, trees and roots above and to the sides as well as some clovers and moss) kinda like the ancient forest. Your character mentions you are leading them into the desert (from the forest to the desert)
