@@oscarwhittlestone8923 Lance doesn't require everything, all it needs is a big enough shield to make the monsters look weak and frail. Jokes aside, the new block cancel and block counter mechanics look like fun.
Lance is looking like it may be a a potential member of the Bonkey crew as well. It's application is still on the board of review though. Probably will be on limited member privileges like sns.
I’m really looking at giving this weapon a real solid go in Wilds. I know it’s not as flashy as other weapons at times but the mobility and versatility this weapon provides seems very comfy.
Insect glaive user here. I am quite comfortable with long sword, hammer, sns, and swaxe. But IG just makes me smile ear to ear. Will see how wilds goes :)
I am going into this very hopeful they make the thing fun cause I had planned on making it my main prior to everything announced along with hunting horn. Can't wait for beta to try everything!
Losing the helicopter isn't a huge downside (imo) since you can still hop into the air at any time and do an attack with diving wyvern and also the spin attack so I assume it's just enoygh to still break parts while keeping most of the mobility and allowing it to not cheese a lot of the monsters anymore (which is a fair dev worry tbh).
If it is any consolation hammer seems to have lost the charge state. And you still have bug friend and more buff management tools. Honestly I may pick it up and mix it with hh, run heal powder if it still exists and you can really play around with buff management and support.
You start out from the first second of your vid showing my favorite Just love being able to switch to that shield after lashing out with those crazy lightning chords on the monsters.
Don’t know if this will be an option in the demo, but the best thing I know to do is to try out each weapon for a bit in the training ground, like 2-5 minutes each, then pick a few that you like and go through the first large monster hunt with them. This is an easy way to experience each of the weapons at their most basic and gives you a chance to see if you are actually interested in their play style.
Yesssss! This was my plans too! Have you always been a HH main? I fell for it in iceborne but wasn't a fan of MH Rise changes. Always liked the IG though.
I was considering it, I've been hovering around playing both these weapons and I like the idea of playing into power prolonger/ horn mistro to keep your buffs up as you swap weapons. This will be even more true if ig buffs stay off weapon, plus in general you will regardless be able to potentially double stack attack, defense, and mobility buffs depending on horn.
I've played every weapon in the past, but I'm going to play them all again in Wilds, because they all look to have changed in great ways! The demo can't come soon enough
Primary Chargeblade and probably Swax, since in the past i didnt like that the swax had no defensive moves, but that counter makes it look really interesting. But Hunting Horn also looks pretty good!
Primary : Great Sword Secondary : Lance The Great Sword is the weapon I've had with me in every first playthrough of any monster hunter game, It is my bread and butter. The lance is only there for when i am carting multiple times in quests with a hard monster, I will be the shield to my Great Sword.
I'm over here on the same fence my friend! Hunting horn and one or the other. Gonna use the beta to make final decision since both were changed heavily.
I can see some fun in managing weapon swaps on horn and glaive to maximize buff management. Especially if you keep bug buffs on swap. Also I am curious to see if you just..... Shove your bug into the pouch on swap.

I played World mostly with Hammer, but I'm feeling like changing it up this time, so I'll be going Hunting Horn + Long Sword.
I THOUGHT my primary was going to be Charge Blade like in World. But lately that Switch Axe has been calling my name! I'll probably end up running them both, but I can't decide which will be my MAIN and which will be my SECONDARY.
I'm a HH main in World, but I'm extremely excited for Switchaxe and Gunlance in wilds. Of course I'm looking forward to Hunting Horn as well, but definitely excited to test them all and maybe fall in love with something new.
Lance and Gunlance main here. I have been waiting for the opportunity to try these weapons--especially the Gunlance--since the trailers for those two dropped. i cannot wait til I get my hands on these weapons!
Probably Great Sword and Lance. Nothing more satisfying then letting a monster hit you so that you can hit it back harder But a lot of weapons look great Sword and Shield really does it all: KO, Mounting (jumping attacks), elemental / status, power clashes Hunting Horn: it's just a hammer, but better. Bigger range and buffs Charge Blade: a CB with paralysis is really great in multiplayer. Keeping the monster down so that the rest can get some free damage in
My main weapon will be my Charge Blade, but I am wanting to offhand the Hunting Horn. Was originally just gonna pocket horn it for buffs, but that new bubble mechanic seems to have a lot of potential so I may find ways to use it too.
Weapons based on defense Blocks= Lance, Gunlance, Greatsword, Chargeblade Speed=Insect glaive, Dual blades Positioning= Hammer, Hunting horn, Switch axe Long sword and Sword and shield are under the category of "not fair to monster" Guns and bows dont count:D
Main: Lance Secondary: Hunting Horn (or hammer) One to bully the monster and counter every attack they try, the other to go UNGA BUNGA and smack them around.
Sword and shield, Greatsword, Lance, Insect Glaive, and then maybe Gunlance if I time. I've never used Gunlance before but it looks super cool in this game.
As I am probably one of ten lance users like someone said funny to me once. I am glad that Lance got some acknowledgement. Have also considered using Greatsword, which usually isn't a weapon for me. But Wilds kinda made me want to try using it main.
I only played Charge Blade but since Wilds give two I started using Switch Axe as well. I only choose it because Rapid Morph benefits them both and I didn’t wanna make a new build.
I love new combo routes are there for charge blade. But im going to miss the ability to go straight into saed, but we'll see when the beta comes out if it still feels great.
Tough question. IG was a blast with aerial style in MHW (not optimal but fun) I will try all the "fast weapons" and chose but maybe a double kind with 2 element/status to make hunt easier
GS is fairly mobile if played right. It sheathes quickly and the draw attacks are fast, good entry points to combos. Hence, you will usually have it on your back until you find an opening, giving you full access to your sheathed mobility including panic dives. If you play HBG for range you will be disappointed, especially in Solo Play. There are few situations where the monster will let you keep a distance. Playing HBG is more like, well, being the insane guy that puts an autocannon directly against the monsters face. Perfect positioning, control with damage flinches and/or status ailments is what allows you to keep the monster at bay. LBG moves around the monster, HBG locks the monster down and moves as little as necessary.
I will start with a longsword. But I also want to try the charge blade and dual blades for the first time ever. Hammer and insect glave will also see a return for me. My secondary will be the bow. So I can switch between close up and ranged attacks.
I feel like I make an effort to focus on a new weapon with every monster hunter csmpsign before returning to charge blade or longsword, so the fact I get two this time means I'll probably give hammer main a try with heavy bow gun in holster.
the restricted mobility of the switch axe was limited to the sword mode btw, the axe mode was very mobile, comparable to ligth weapon such as the insectglaive or the HH
Lance main. Though I might grab an HBG so that I can make some long range mount attacks. Alternatively, I would also love to try out the Switch axe, as it is one of my favorite weapons in all of MH. Swag axe for life!
Been trying EVERY weapon in MHW trying to figure out this question. I feel like I can't fully commit to just one or two weapons. I'm deadset on bow, but for my other weapon, I have no idea what to take. MHW has made me come to love S&S, IG, Hammer, LS, and CB so I'm very conflicted as to what to pick. Luckily there's the beta so I'll be able to get a feel for all of these. Who knows, I might just pick Switch Axe
I'm considering finally learning Bow, but in RISE and WORLD I can't get past the controls. Maybe it just hasn't clicked yet, but they seem unnecessarily complex.
Let it be known that the Lance is no defensive weapon. It is an offensive powerhouse as it shrugs off the attacks of the enemies, continuing its relentless assault... That said I've already long since decided that I'm gonna be playing Lance/Gunlance, swapping as the vibes take me. But I am interested in giving weapons like CB a try again now that it isn't charge and dump, who knows. But yeah - Lance Gunlance.
Never in my monster hunting journey have I been so conflicted on what to use. Should I stick with my most favorite weapon? And if not, what the hell do I choose when I want to play with everything😭 For the two weapons, I'm probably gonna end up with a main dps weapon and a big bonker for the secondary for when the monster goes to sleep or something. Honestly, I see myself taking two of the same weapon but different elements or something like that. Or a weapon for the small monsters and then a weapon for the big monsters
Im going to rock with DB and Bow and my two, they go well since you have to manage stamina with both and have great mobility. Need constitution and evasion skill bonuses and I’ll be good
