Only real disagreement is insect glaives difficulty, super easy to use once you realize you need red essence to hit hard, otherwise greatly thank you as now I understand more of the basic (and not so basic) oddities of the weapons 10/10 will watch again
Great video man! this is really helpful for my wife and I. We play pretty much all the weapons and I had no idea the charge blade could spin the axe mode like that!
Why? It's obviously more of a pole vault situation. Pogo sticks bounce in a stationary area repeatedly never getting the air that a bendy stick could give to you.
Man I would bet money on it that you‘re a lance main! That was an excellent demonstration of it! I main CB and LS but that convinced me to give lance a shot. Thank you man!
@@BoomstickGaming haha gotcha! The flow of your fighting style and your experience totally shines through! Keep up playing and happy hunting fella! Hype for Iceborne!!! 😄
The problem with lance is its damage is trash compared to other weapons end game builds. You dont need defense when you can have a monster on the floor until it dies. Just makes hunts last longer.
@Jeffrey Kyle exactly, with all the other weapons you have to wait at certain points with lance theres not much downtime. I stoped using it cause the game became to easy
As a long sword main, I am so excited to figure out how to work the Iai slash into my combos. Also I would like to formally apologize to all the hunters I’ve ever tripped in this game. I promise it wasn’t on purpose
Getting tripped by LS players is honestly not a big deal for me since it is negated with flinch free. Now heavy bowguns spamming clusters on a downed monster on the other hand... I still have nightmares.
This description of the hunting horn is the best one I've heard in a video that isn't focused entirely on it. The lack of the word "support" really does it justice and I think it's wonderful that they didn't talk more about your team than the user.
As a main ham just wanted to say to my fellow hammers that with Safi jivas new ham weapon when you have the ham fully awakened the eye 👁🗨 on the ham will glow and burn when you are fully charged (3rd charge stage). Pretty cool touch to the weapon we love to use so dearly haha. Would be cool if there was a ham that would change the color depending on the charge stage.
How to fight with a hammer: Step 1: get the damage buff Step 2: bonk bonk bonk bonk /dodge/ bonk bonk SLAM Step 3: charge up to lv 3 and do more bonkin'. Sometimes you can stagger a monster multiple times in a row so you can continue to bonk the devil out of it. Step 4: get pissed at sky monsters when you run out of flash pods, lookin at you, my ol' buddy, my ol' pal, Rathalos.
First time getting a monster hunter game ever. Downloading on my xbox now. Was looking for a new game to try out and was shocked by how much content there was for a game I've barely ever heard of before. Looking forward to starting
Shared, thats a real quality indepth video. I got 650 hours on mhw and had em all since psp 2000. Tri being my fave of all time. Thats a really really good beginners video pal !
Aquatic my friend plays hunting horn main. I’m a charge blade main. He and i are SUCH a good tag team, we just roll through everything. One time we teamed up with another two person team and after hunting for awhile one of them said “you two work REALLY well together, it’s like you know what the other person is going to do next before they do.” They were amazed at how little we had to speak to each other to coordinate our attacks. Playing with him has given me so much respect for hunting horners, because their support capabilities are so amazingly helpful, and when someone is really good with it there’s nothing they can’t do. He and i are really close friends in real life, so i think that contributes to our cooperative gameplay.
ugh I just love the insect glaive and use it all the time. I think it would be better to learn from experience because it has so much to it but if you still want to read my thoughts on it, I just really feel like talking about it ;u; the thing I love about this weapon the most is it makes me have to think fast because it gives me a lot to think about. Like... a LOT. Like if you've checked the video and saw that 5* complexity rating it's not lying. That's usually only best for you once you've gotten used to the game, weapon, and monsters. but I find once you reach that point of familiarity this weapon becomes really satisfying once you've gotten things down, especially when you discover new aspects to it that you never knew/realized before. I've found that happened to me a _lot_ when picking up this weapon. With the insect glaive, you have to manage getting attack output, focusing on keeping your buffs up, managing you kinsect's stamina (which actually becomes way easier with the spirit kinsect that some slinger ammo gives it, thank you iceborne) and making sure it stays marked on the monster so it can keep dropping clouds all over the place. You also want to use the vaulting for mobility (with the white buff it gives really nice mobility without having to put the weapon away) or gaining height with out-of-reach flying monsters or raised parts that you might want to break OR vaulting to dodge attacks once you recognize monster patterns enough to realize you are about to get crushed to death OR vaulting to build mounting damage onto the monster. As everybody else always says to those who ask about the glaive, don't just jump around all the time, because the glaive builds up the best damage on the ground! Another thing I discovered is don't be afraid to spam your bug attack at the monster when it's way out of reach/fleeing and you need time to catch up with it. Just gets some minor damage accumulating on it, but I've also discovered sometimes I can accidentally flinch the monster (and on rarer occasions, break one of its parts with the bug). Definitely be sure to keep upgrading your kinsect so it can become more effective. Main point is, don't neglect to think about your little buggy!! You definitely will need to get used to the weapon, but once you do, focusing on all of that during battle is much easier than it sounds :b I'm quite aware that I've possibly scared off a bunch of people with those paragraphs because not everybody wants to manage so much at once and those who watch this video are potentially very new to this game. But I'm at least hoping to reach out to the others who are like me who enjoy being given a lot to think about in games like this! I feel like that's one aspect of this weapon I rarely see explained to people. All I ever see is "je suis monte." :b
freohr789 yeah, Insect Glaive and Switch Axe are like tied for my secondary weapon. I’m a charge blade main, but i love weapons that enable you to have vast depth in the multitude of styles you’re able to utilize with just one weapon.
The idea of the glaive producing the best dps on the ground is outdated tbh. If you build the weapon correctly it hits big numbers from the air aswel as the ground, giving allround play. I usually hit 3(160-230) for using the R2 slam out of the air on a monsters tenderised head, plus I use blast, stun insect to either increase a free 300 blast damage number or create stun build up, works amazingly (3 circle ground attack will probably do about 350 damage total and airbound circle will do in the region of 200-350 attack depending on how many hits connect... However it leads to the slam whereas the triple circle ground attack is a finisher, so airborne for continuously higher dps ☺️ hope this helps
Way late but I found that as a complete noob abusing aerial let me ease into reading the monsters by giving me more escape options. As I got towards HR I started paying more attention to extracts, actually using the canteen, QOL armor skills and better crafted items. As I got into MR I was able to transition to more ground/DPS-focused play, slinger buffs, clutch claw, equipment, and monster-oriented decos. I don't think there's anything wrong with jumping straight into IG because you really don't need to get into its complexity before you're ready to take that next step. Plenty of time to get familiar with the basics first.
Yes as a Hunting horn main this opens new potential and combos as well as support to help, also even tho it’s underrated as a weapon and considered as a support weapon this improves its skill and potential as a hunting horn.
I wanna play like all the weapons. I I thought a lot about what weapon to start out with in Iceborne. But I decided to just go with my "safe picks", the weapons I use when I wanna kill a monster fast and still be super safe. Those are Charge Blade and Longsword for me.
I recommend trying insect glaive too, that’s my main... once you get the flow of using your kinsect to power up it’s super smooth. Setting up a ton of dust clouds around a monster and helicoptering your way through them (causing them all to go off at once) is unbelievably satisfying.
I've mained Greatsword since Monster Hunter 3 but I was also a dedicated Insect Glaive user in MH4U. The transforming weapons are also quite fun. Really the only weapons I've never gotten into for a while are the gunner weapons, I just don't like being limited by the ammunition.
You forgot to mention that the hammer is the one that most benefits from the clutch claw. Becoming a spinning sticky hammer. Very satisfying when the monster leaves from one location to the next and right before he starts moving you manage to clutch claw it and your hunter flys like never before taking you with it until you hammer it lol. I'm a Flying Hammer Main.
Quite late, but there also is a similar counter on lance that gives you about 5 seconds of super armor to allow you to soften or burst, even through attacks (if you have the health to spare).
@@tinyhaze1409 I love how they put Alatreon's scythe for the Long Sword just recently into the game, except the majority of people who still play haven't really had fun trying to obtain it lol
As a insect glaive main since 4u. Please God do not stay in arial fighting. Stay on the ground where you will do 2 to 3 times as much damage and wont get chucked as badly by attacks.
Actually, even as a long time MH vet, this is a very nice comprehensive video to the new additions of Iceborne. I may need to brush up on my lance and bowgun skills now. Thanks!
I thought I would end up gravitating towards the sword and shield but I actually found myself liking the hammer better. Something about stunning the enemies is incredibly satisfying to me.
Important note, the LBG's Wyvern Blast doesn't detonate by "Monster Proximity". It detonates if the monster hits it with an attack. Otherwise you'll want to detonate them yourself by shooting them.
All I know is my bodies ready....to get roflstomped by Glavenus and all the monsters I’ve never fought before but BRING IT ON BEBY! Nice video too I’m learning CB and DB right now and as a LS main I’m very excited!!! Sorry for tripping any of you...
boomstick, i've frequented your channel from time to time and i must say. this is by FAR the best description of MH weapons i've seen. all very accurate, concise, and simple for new or curious gamers. i've been looking for a quick breakdown for some people at work that have interest but everytime i explain MH they get scared of it. this is a great help thanks!
Quick question about switch axe. You say that the heavy slam buffs your axe according to your phial type. As in there are different versions of power axe mode?
My playstyle is: fast movement, (must be able to move quickly/get out of the way fast), good damage (if I hit it during a combo and it dodges I still want big damage), some sort of get out of jail free card (a good dodge), must be Mobil (as stated before I like movement), I like hit and run tactics (hit a bunch than move away but I do count avoiding/blocking damage as "running" because it fuels the same purpose ) I have decide between these weapons: The switch axe, it has the damage I want, attacks fast, has a get out of jail option, but doesn't have much mobility. The hammer, it has the damage I want, it has mobility, attacks fast, but doesn't have a get out of jail option. The Lance, it has the damage I want, it has mobility, but it is limited, attacks fast, has a get out of jail option, but as stated before the mobility is not the best, you are confined to a small space, running away is difficult, but you have a shield and damage is consistent. The Insect glaive, has the mobility, has the get out of jail, attacks extremely fast, but damage is not the best unless full combo hits. The longsword, has the mobility, attacks fast, is close to the damage I want, has multiple get out of jail options, but attacks fling you around a lot. Sword and shield, has the mobility, attacks fast, get out of jail free option (shield plus fast sheath), but the dumbest relies on combos, combos make you move around a lot (not as much as long sword but enough to notice) Based on what I have said what do you think I should use, also tell me your experiences with the weapons and how they are played and I will take that into consideration. If you have questions for me I will answer them the best I can.
I picked Sword&Shield or Long Sword. Both are good mobility and have counter or dodge move. SnS aren't that combo heavy because you'll mostly do 1 2 hits then roll or run for another strike. Long sword may swing alot but I find it an allrounder weapon. Good dmg, good mobility, easy to learn mechanic. The only hard part are timing counter but you'll learn it over time.
It actually can do fairly high damage with the right setup. Slicing ammo alone is very powerful, but the easiest to use is one of the guns with the multi-shot perks. Buff up right, and they can do some serious damage.
Best game series ever made! MHW is my favourite game ever. I thought others might be having looked at game save I have surpassed the 1100 hour mark which speaks volumes. Mainly because I just don't get sick of this game there is always stuff to learn, weapons to master & more fun to be had. Iceborne & at seems like hundreds of quality of life improvements and new monsters is going to push this game into undoubtedly my favourite game ever. made. It has the most satisfying game play loop ever. While it's not perfect the devs are always working to improve it & they do not try to take advantage of us like EA would. Imagine how screwed this game would be if EA got its hands on it.
The problem I’m having and the reason I won’t buy it is because they are nerfing all the ways that make the grind easier, temporal mantle is going, which made the grind more bearable and they’re making clusters worthless, which makes the grind that much longer and harder, it seems they are taking away the methods used to get 2-3 minute hunts which will make this game unbearable for me, it’s only find because you can go into a hunt and destroy a monster with unbelievable speed and power without any hope of the monster fighting back. With changes in iceborne they removing the core thing that made this game fun for me 😢
The weapons I use the most is the great sword, long sword, sword and shield , insect glaive and charge blade with the most mastered weapon which is most of the weapons I use except the charge blade I can't seem to master it though
As a gunlance main I feel bad that you don't mention the 3 different types of gunlances, and that each has a different play style. We need more gunlance users 😭
@@acelilumelody4445 Noo...as a bow user, I totally disapprove this..:'-(. Totally enjoyed my time in MHW as a bow user but having to nerf it down seems unfair
@@deegeeas6644 dual blades is getting similar nerfs due to elemental damage being buffed... still the enduring surrender is back and that has a base dragon of 550 so i guess there is that
Useful combo for longsword : after preforming your spirit combo to gain a spirit level, instead of letting the sheathing animation finish you can do a manual sheath and continue attacking after your basic slash, this is a great combo to go crazy on the tail. Just watch for your teammates
Hammer is badass as is with the clutch claw. GS I agree but I guess they wanted to keep is simple as always. The hard part of the GS has always been knowing the monsters and timing your attacks, not long or complex combos.
Not knowing how the glaive works was intended? Because you say the glaive is for mostly aerial style hunts but... You are wrong, the glaive with red and white juice is the weapon with most DPS in the floor for two reasons: very fast movements and multihits.
Out of all the weapons the ham can be played differently depending on the terrain. It's either sliding, jumping or being grounded. What most people don't realize is the ham is very handy against flying monsters. Just stay by the edge of a cliff/platform and spam the jump att when monster is near there. You will hit the monster fairy easily and can even knock it out and have it crashing down. Also with evade decos you can play with the ham being power charged more frequently which nets you an additional 100att (just about). Ham is king if you are able to slide and do the sliding att move. Why? Not only can you mount monsters this way but you can KO them and it's easier to dodge their moves. And the ham also has two moves that will always connect and not bounce off the big bang and spinning 360 move basically act as minds eye 👁🗨 skill.
really? for me sns > charge blade difficulty, charge blade was simple once you know the theory and get used a little bit. all you need to play charge blade is patience and careful with the Powerful Combo Animations. but it just my personal opinion after all
Greatsword it's even harder to me as a Charge Blade main. It's literally, too complicated because the only thing that i can do with that weapon is miss the charge attacks.
@@andrewthielmann5342 No no, really. Charge Blade it's complicated because you need to do like... five things to do your maximum damage. Not for timing, like GS. GS needs to charge your attack. Wait an opening and hit your attack. I can't do that, idk why hahaha
Type in charge blade combos, another youtuber breaks it down so simple the best moves. It's so worth learning. If you deflect when charged just do a whirling slash right trigger and b button at the same time. Keeps from deflecting and is one of the quickest dps charge blade moves.
@@Wc3dragon yes the nergi is beautiful, my fav was the axe of demons (was just bad ass) until we smashed kulve taroth perfectly , and all the other teams did too, and it dropped a gold taroth paralysis axe.. i managed to get an extra attack gem .. theres nothing like sticking yourself to the face of monster and unloading a full paralysis blast in it , then getting the second cling straight away. See you in iceborne brother axe man !
Thanks for showing what the new changes were for the Iceborne expansion. This'll come in handy once I get started on it. For me I'll still be using Switch Axes, Sword and Shields and Insect Glaives like before😁👍
I can hunt pretty good with all weapons except the lance. I just cant get a good feel for it. My first main weapon being a noob was the light bow gun. Then I moved on to the gun lance. After learning the others [not mastering though] I finished with the hunter horn.
Nice vid man, personally, id just tell them to try the easiest weapons to start with, and leave others like CB or GL for later, thats if they want a smooth introduction to fighting monsters, i started with the hammer and later on i moved on to the cb, which was incredibly hard for me to master, loved the learning process though
Hi there, 1stly great informative vid! I just wanted to ask..the changes introduced in Iceborne..are they present when just starting out in the base game? Or do you have to reach ICeborne before these new mechanics become available?
Very Concise and smart, since it helped me alot I sent it ahead to some friends so hoping it helps them just as much. Thank you very much for the time something like this takes to script, capture, edit and upload. Was a fun watch and very good help and refresher.
