If grouped with others just try your best to attack other portions of the body. If you get stuck then try to use your traingle+circle into a triangle combo if in axe, or just use the traingle combo in sword. Remember that the discharge can be used while not latched on. Learning when it is okay to do a zero sum is key to using sword mode. Axe mode's mobility makes it a worthwhile investment for mobile fights and airborne enemies so don't overlook it. You'll also want to rely more heavily on trying to change into sword mode during wild swings and by drawing right into it using R2 from sheathed position. While in axe mode try to take on longsword tactics and while in sword mode try to take on hit and run tactics. This weapon is many in one which is really nice imo. Oh yeah, utilize evade extender-it helps! Nice video yet again.
Just an FYI that i don't think was covered. Yes, S/Axe uppercuts do launch your teammates into the sky, however if you're intentionally doing it and your team is aware and wanting you to do it, with practice, you can uppercut them from miles away into a mounting position, meaning for a lot of time spent riding monsters...produces very quick kills in a full team...
Started with Longsword, moved to Switch Axe. For the most part love it, sword mode does not bounce off Monsters, DPS can be high if you get in the right area, and mounting elemental explosions are always fun. Downside, mobility is rather limited and can be hard to get in a good position with monsters that move around alot. I'm trying out Charge Blade but hard to give up my Switch Axe
As a Switch Axe main, let me inform you who don't know, "Latching" is not Mounting. While "Latched" you can still take damage and you can be easily knocked off. Since this is your strongest attack I recommend using it just before the Monster starts to get up after being knocked down or while the monster is panting in exhaustion. Zero Sum is easily your strongest attack but takes a long time to build up (since it isn't available until your phial is fully charged) and detonate. It leaves you vulnerable afterward so be careful.
my favourite is the exhuast phial, it's better suited for longer fights and can exhuast monsters very quickly which is allosw for a lot of free damage when the monster has to catch it's breath not to mention very satisfying
Consider this: Maybe the fights are longer because you're not doing the damage that a power phial offers :P Jk tho, if it works for you that's awesome. Fun is the most important factor!
true, I've only just got to high to high rank so I don't have a lot of damage in general. The exhuast phial can completely exhuast a monster in a couple minutes, I need to mess around more with other weapon setups to how good it is relatively. But exhaust is my current favourite status as it really makes fights easier :)
RWBY ROSE The Switch Axe he's using is called Teostra's Castle, it's a very good recommendation for a Swax and it's made from an Elder Dragon known as Teostra(thus the name)
Oooooh a Teostra lance would be amazing...considering the style type, that'd be incredible. I was really hoping for a Radobaan Lance too, but sadly, it isnt to be. The Rathalos one has to be among my favourites though...
