Farming videos are my favorite. Sonne Farms and of course Welker Farms. When I was much younger I got to run a tractor long before air conditioning was were part of farming. You got to see so much sitting on a tractor. Raptors in the sky and baby deer laying in the field. How I miss it.

Kayla, your explanation on farming and being nervous on running the tractors and baler,but by tackling the job head on you have conquered the job and you are a natural at it. I am glad that you have the hay to bale. As you know there is a lot of the country in drought conditions, so even though you are in extreme baling mode you are blessed. Keep up the great videos and before you know it you will break 10k.

Hey there! I'm in NE Missouri also and for the last 10 years I've been taking 'vacations' in June/July to head out to the family farm and run the big round baler for my Dad. It's very satisfying seeing all those big round bales sitting on a freshly baled field in the long summer sunsets, especially after a long, hot, dirty, dusty day with breakdowns thrown in. I'd love to run a 5250 and perhaps will hopefully get one someday but for now our faithful IH 1086 and 856 gets the job done every time. Wish you the best, God Bless!

Kayla, you do a very good job with your videos. I especially like the ones where you are baling hay with the small square baler. It brings back so many memories of my Dad and I when we ran a custom haying operation back in the 60's and 70's. We ran Case tractors and a New Holland baler and rake. I remember one afternoon we baled 1200 bales in 4 hours, but that was an exception. Keep the great videos coming and my God bless your family.

Spray the tractor AC condensor and radiator to keep them clean. Also, clean the cabin air filter often. You are working in a high dust environment. It will keep your AC working better. Nice to see the equipment working well. You guys get it done. Hard work breeds success.

I can say this, If I still drove semi, I would calling you to get a load of your Hay, I can put 1000 bales of hay in my hay barn. With equipment cost now days it’s becoming a custom operation world for haying. But it’s worth the effort as a custom operator to know you’ve helped many ppl keep their livelihood and animals fed. That said I’ll keep to my round baler at 150+ tons a day capacity. Lol
@ChroniclesofKayla
@ChroniclesofKayla 3 года назад
I don’t miss the round baler except when things get real stressful like the last few days ... because rounds can sit outside - - unlike squares they can’t ... but I like feeding the squares during winter for our setup. We can feed 4-6 big squares in 20-25 minutes. Where as rounds take me a good hour or more.
@johnmorgan4017
@johnmorgan4017 3 года назад
@@ChroniclesofKayla lol that is exactly why my area loves rounds. Once it’s out of my baler not my worry. They move to wherever they will winter the cows when they get time. Plus most use bale beds since they will have cows 20 miles apart.
@ChroniclesofKayla
@ChroniclesofKayla 3 года назад
Our biggest thing is we can’t compete with round bales ... if we were to sell A Round Bale for the same as we are getting for our large squares we’d need $86.00 a bale ... that ain’t gunna fly here ..
@johnmorgan4017
@johnmorgan4017 3 года назад
@@ChroniclesofKayla yea I wouldn’t argue that. The work it takes for that quality is incredible. It’s enjoyable to see your videos. Anyone who’s life reflects the saying. When times get tough the tough keep going. I deal with way too many who want to sit around and smoke pot cause it’s just too hard. I find motivation through RU-vid farmers to keep pushing and get the work done.

N.E. Missouri looks, in some ways, very similar to the Red River Valley country of North Dakota. I'm originally from North Dakota, but your part of Missouri is absolutely beautiful. I'm starting to wonder if that part of Missouri has a lot of old west history, like the days of the Doolin-Daltin gang? Just saying, just asking? Like I say, where you're at is absolutely beautiful.

Great video Kayla as always! Wow, even in the video I could see how huge those windrows were! That's one thing I like about running a large round baler versus running a small square baler, we can still go around 5.8 to 6mph. In decent windrows, we can crank out 38 to 40 4x6 bales in an hour. A bale every 7 seconds is amazing! Was the Freon a little low in your baler tractor? For myself, being in a tractor doing anything at all, from working ground, planting, mowing, raking or baling, loading hay onto a trailer, is like an amusement park ride. It is like a vacation, not work at all. I get to "play" with life sized toys! I know what a pain It is sometimes having to deal with good sized piles of hay in a windrow on the headlands on the inside windrow. It isn't fun to have to deal with em but they're unfortunately unavoidable, especially in heavy hay like y'all had there. I liked Jason's reaction to your query when you said the piles.....what's that? "Hey, it's just hay!" I had to chuckle. Thanks again for sharing with us!!! We love ya!

Back in 60's we would pick, move, stack 3000 bales in a day. For like .25. Pop up loader. Sometimes a rattler would be in the bale. Got exciting for the guy at the catcher deck.

Yea ... snakes and spiders. If they don’t bug me. I won’t mess with them either ... I couldn’t imagine stacking 3000 by hand - there’s days when 1000 or so fall and we have to restock and it’s always a reminder of how “blessed” we are with the step up we have.

My uncle couldn't conceive of a minute of his life that didn't involve some form of farming. Dairy mostly on family farms large enough to make it worth the trouble. He was born and raised to live a 19th century self-sufficient lifestyle and the modern circumstances that brought about something like your haying event were his idea of "Hog Heaven". I remember well the days of following the bailers just to drag the hay to a centralized row so the men could tossed and stacked them on the wagon before dark.

Hi Kayla! You got polish surname (your husband's family?), can you tell something more about your family? 😊

That horse is beautiful. I wondered how you could walk into the barn and not talk to the horse.

I talk to them as much as I do the dogs and cattle. Just not always on camera .. I spent half of Saturday working in the barn with them.

I got an 1840 this year and absolutely love it. Did 2021 in 4.5 hours the other day. On a side note why do you have an edge stack instead of flat stack kuhns?

Ooooh don't complain...I'd like to have windows like that on a nice flat field...I have to chase my windows in zig zag ..curves and right angles ....all within a small meadow...with weeds in them...!!!altho it's not boring ...!!! But breakages and jamming is constant...machines are desighned to do their job on the flat in the straight. ....not on my meadows...oh and dodging low trees...😂

How many bales do you get from a roll of twine Never see you fill the twine and how many rolls per knotter
@ChroniclesofKayla
@ChroniclesofKayla 3 года назад
About 2000 bales per 10 rolls of twine. We generally reload every day we bale.

I know a few guys that are spraying citric acid on the hay so they can bail it with a higher moisture level

Interesting!!! We do not preserve anything at the current moment. Jason has in the past with a different set up - but with the accumulator and grabber the bales would be too heavy.

who or what determines what kind of bales you make? Is it just a customer preference thing? I see small square, big square, mostly round bales around where i live.
@ChroniclesofKayla
@ChroniclesofKayla 3 года назад
Jason does - ours is what the market / clients want. Most of ours are equine clients. Who want small squares. But for us small vs large has to do with the field, quality of the hay, timing - but now “barn room”. 4 barns are nearly full. We have 3 fields of first cut grass left ... one of those will be small squares because of the quality bing soo good - but also because the other two fields aren’t as easy to maneuver the accumulator with. So regardless they always had been round baled until we made the change due to marketing reason to the large square.

@@ChroniclesofKayla Thank you, I live on a small acreage surrounded by farm fields, but defintely not a farmer. Crops up here in northern alberta will be average at best, after a great year last year, southern alberta/northern montana devestated by drought this year. Not even an inch of rain all season in most places. A little better up north but crops seem much shorter than last year,barley in field next to me is maybe just over a foot high. Thanks for sharing your farm with an armchair farmer.

We have a good set up and most farmers so if they do hay and straw. We have a dairy farm. We fill our barns up with hay and straw and if we have extra we sell them. We upgrade every couple years.
@ChroniclesofKayla
@ChroniclesofKayla 3 года назад
We’re are slowly being able to upgrade over time - Jason’s rule of thumb is if the balers aren’t in top shape then there’s no reason to even mow. If the mower is down - nothing can be “ruined” per day but if the baler goes down it can cost the whole field.
