My housemate's homemade guitar is eaten from the inside out by (presumably) borer beetle larva present in the wood before it was finished.
We're not sure what type of beetle does this. A cursory internet search suggests emerald ash borers are unlikely, so we are leaning towards powder post beetles. The infested body was purchased from guitar fetish, and to the company's credit they are sending a higher end replacement.
If anyone has any additional info about these little guitar-killers leave a comment. I've seen a couple other posts online about this happening but it appears to be exceedingly rare.
A discussion about borer beetle prevention and treatment is posted here: www.reddit.com/r/Guitar/comments/821m4d/question_what_is_eating_this_guitar_will_it_eat/
**Update** Placing the guitar body in a sealed bag in the freezer at 0 degrees Fahrenheit (-18 Celsius) for one week killed the larva in the original body. Morgan also obtained a free replacement body from GFS, this time alder instead of ash, and successfully remade the guitar.
