Hi Craig, Thanks very much for the reviews. The method you used to do the air permeability test gave a very good visual results comparing the two jackets involved. However, the visual result change drastically when the comparing jacket is changed. For example, the Patagonia Houdini was very air permeable in the "Wind Shirt Performance Tests", but it was not so air permeable in the "Arc'Teryx Squamish Hoody Review". I am very interested in the Montbell Tachyon, but you said it is not air permeable at all, give me a bit of concern. Could you do a comparison on air permeablility for the Montbell Tachyon vs Standard Softshell and Power Shield Pro? Will it become very air permeable when comparing to the Standard Softshell and Power Shield Pro? If yes, it could be the best everyday jacket. Thanks Denny
Great overview and thanks for putting it through the tests. Gotta say I was surprised by the wind test - zero wind... that was the only jacket you tested that achieved that right? Here are my own thoughts on this jacket: hikelighter.com/2013/07/01/montbell-tachyon-wind-jacket-2013-edition/
reviewer says his size L was a "slim fit or athletic fit." this is grossly misrepresenting. i just ordered a medium in this jacket. comparing its fit to a size medium salomon fast wing and patagonia houdini (which do in fact have a slim/athletic fit), this MB size medium fit VERY baggy. this is definitely NOT a slim fit cut. Also, reviewer should have shown the built in stow pocket - it is suppppppppppppper small. so small that it takes probably a good 45+ seconds to push it all in. that may not seem like a lot but comparing that to 5 seconds flat for the salomon/patagonia offerings...its extremely cumbersome. these two traits are major turnoffs for me...sometimes pack size can be too small if it means having to go nuts trying to stuff it inside itself!
