I saw this live that Fateful night in 1999. It changed my life forever and I made a decision that night that I would make music for the rest of my life. Still proud of my decision. Thanks Monte Montgomery for I spiring me and so many!
They talk about virtuosos in guitar all the time. But what they don't mention is the RHYTHMIC virtuosos - that rarest of the rare. Monte's one of them. He's pure soul, and grit, and gut, and passion. AND licks.
Not only has this aged well, but I remember this night and have the album of this live performance. He's so talented. Loosened strings, I remember looking up how he played so well! I couldn't believe he was playing this with an acoustic guitar. He had an tutorial after a few years, he loosened his strings. Was always baffled. Amazing. Not only was his guitar playing on point and spot on, so is his singing. He is amazing. Underrated
Maggie's! I worked there and saw him play, along with many other fabulosos! So proud to have seen him opening for STYX tonight in Helotes near San Antonio, TX!
Saw him play a set in '99 @ City Stages in Birmingham, AL. He filled in for a cancellation and proceeded to dominate the stage with his incredible musicianship. Been a fan ever since. =)
One of Monte's first shows ( I think) was in Austin Texas at the inaugural "Austin Acoustic Music Festival" that a friend ran. Volunteered as the doorman since it was to raise money for the Artists. Monte is amazing.
Just saw him on April 9,2022 at the Heights theatre here in Houston. Still trying to process exactly what we witnessed. Dude is absolutely amazing and that is under stating it by 1000%
I saw him live for the first time a month or so ago, and I laughed out loud watching him - it's ridiculous how good he is. So inspiring - music just pours out of the guy. Probably the best live musical performance I've ever seen. If you have the opportunity to see him play live, DO IT!
Gary Cain I've seen him 30+ times, a dyed in the wool Monteiac, can't tell you the number of times I've done the very same thing. I remember first time I saw him with some friends at Antone's not too long after this came out. At one point I got angry because I felt like he was showing off.
I think he sold his soul to the devil on this one! wow dude, heard this on Spotify a few weeks ago and cant stop listening to it!!!! so stoked the same version is here on RU-vid Live!!! thanks for posting!! this song is sooooooooo incredible.
'Saw him last night in Montreal (Canada) as he was closing act of Montreal's Guitar Festival. He was amazing, backed by great band too. 'Had the chance to met him after the show, he autographed my MM 1st & Repair tshirt , took few pictures and chat for few minutes. Priceless. Great guy. So much talented.
It just pisses my off that hacks like Lady GaGa and Justin Bieber or any rapper ever born get all the money and fame, Yet there are thousands of people like this with actual talent falling out of their pockets eek out a living playing 20 to 25 shows a month in small venues. Monte is so damn good that Lady GaGa should be wishing she could be as big as him for the rest of her life.
Would give anything to find his "Cinnamon Girl Jam." It was an awesome combination of "Lola" from the Kinks, "World Turning" from Fleetwood Mac, and ended with Neil Young's "Cinnamon Girl." Tune was masterpiece.
I loved this song when I was starting to learn to play guitar. 10 years later it's just as amazing. The sustain and clarity he gets out of his fingers is ridiculous.
Never made it huge.fucking shame..so much ass music on the radio.i saw him in front row at small club in nashville..being a guitar player.i wanted to burn my shit.you deserved more sir..i bow to you
Hum,tough to comment! So many guitar riffs in 1 song and all of them are a gas! I first saw/heard Monte do Sarah Smile at Daryl's House about a year ago (on You Tube that is) amazing! It's so easy to listen to Monte sing and play and any sound or miss on the guitar only seems to enhance the song! THANKS!
Same level as SRV and his Rythm section is just as good as he is....they should have filled arenas...Austin man is the shit!!! His son smokes just as well
Hey brother just wanted to wish you a Merry Christmas I miss the days of the Saxon pub Romeo and Juliet and all that I hope you're doing well take care
Good timing, and technique, & i like the cord variations he uses, not the shredder i was hoping him to be from the hype, and damn I hate this music, but based on his ability I will check him out further.
@NelsonClick Wow. You couldn't be more wrong. He's singing about women who have left him and he's regretting that when he was younger he did the same. It's about a life lesson learned. Oh, and it's a song. It's a story. Just like someone who writes a book, the story isn't always autobiographical.
