Thankyou so much Kari I went to beginners lessons today and got montery steps thrown at me with very little instruction. It turns out after watching your tutorial that we were doing two half turn Monterey steps.i came home and watched you and i feel confident now as you took us through the basic step to the many variations. Thankyou for explaining it so well. By knowing the basics it is easy to understand. Thankyou.❤

Thank you so much for your kind words and sharing your experiences with me, Stephen! I'm so happy I could be of help! Monterey turns can be tricky. It's great you have them down pat now and they're lots of fun too, right? If interested in learning more moves and terminology you might enjoy visiting my website KarisLineDancing.com and clicking the How-To Videos tab. I break down the vast majority of line dance moves there and it can be of huge help when transitioning into any class. It's wonderful you're a dancer now and best wishes for a fabulous journey! 💃🏽🕺🏻💃🏽 😁 👏🏽 🎉

Thanks for the instruction. I use your how-to videos whenever I'm adding a new step to my class. I had watched this one a few months ago, but had not used it in any of our dances. But now I've got to add a half turn Monterey to our steps, and your I'm reviewing the steps. Good job.

I am trying to find an answer re Monterey turn and I am here. Your how-to videos may become a line dance step encyclopedia. 😃Good job. My question is: Do we always turn RIGHT when using our right foot to do this turn? If I decide to turn LEFT to fit my dance, will it become another step that I'm not aware of? Can I just call this a 'modified' Monterey turn? Thanks.

Hi and thanks! Re the Monterey turns, I have never come across one that starts with the right foot and turns left so I would say that if you did want to turn left you probably shouldn't call it a modified Monterey but might want to call it a left-turning toe switch. ie if you are pointing right, then turning aurter leftto step the right foot beside the left and then pointing left with your left and then stepping left beside right, then you are really just doing a toe switch but adding in a left turn on the second move. So if that' what you're doing in your dance, I'd probably call it a left-turning toe switch. As for the Monterey turns, yes, when you use your right foot to start the Monterey you would always turn right. If you wanted to turn left using a Monterey, you'd want to just do a left Monterey ie starting with your left foot. I hope this helps and good luck with your dance - no matter what you call the move, I'm sure it will be fun! ❤ 💃🏽🕺🏻💃🏽 😁
