This brings me so much joy! I went to a small private Montessori school from age three to six, and it was probably one of the best educational decisions that my family made for me. I have been blind since birth, and the hands-on nature of the Montessori method meant that almost all of the lessons were automatically accessible to me. I think the guide had to give a few more verbal directions to me than to the other children, as I could not see her demonstrating the different lessons, but she made it work, and I can clearly see how my time in a Montessori classroom helped me flourish as a child. I am so glad that this effort is being made to ensure that other children have the same opportunity to flourish, especially in an environment rooted in Christianity. If and when I have children someday, I would love to educate them in the Montessori method, whether that be at home or in an established Montessori school.
I have been looking for the connection between Montessori's work and Catholicism. I am very grateful for this conversation. I have only seen non-Christian Montessori schools near me. I worked at a classical catholic elementary school as well as worked for a private Montessori school and could not help but see where the connection could be made between Classical Catholic education and Montessori. All I have heard about the connection is that Maria Montessori left the Catholic Church. If anyone has any good books/articles/research that would inform my passionate interest in the connection between Montessori and Classic Catholicism- I would greatly appreciate if you would comment them below. I am on a serious hunt for sources. I have a business degree, certified PreK-4, Masters in Educational Leadership and currently work at a Montessori school. I am gathering credentials but still feel as if I lack the information needed for what I am being called to do. I want to bring this connection into practical and concrete fruition. Dr Montessori wrote extensively about her Catholic Faith and the connections between her method and the Faith. These are not hidden secrets even if the secular world would like them to go away. The Child in the Church The Mass Explained to Children Chapters within her main books (look for older publications) So much more (most is not yet in English) She write a letter to a gathering of catechists the evening before the stroke that ended her life. Her last thought was for catechists - she did NOT leave the Church.
Maria Montessori abandoned her child to go around, also dabbling in the occult in Asia, so I reallt doubt her being a good Catholic. I boycott her.@@JessicaWelshRottman

Ahhh I love this interview! I am trained in Lvl 1 of CGS and will be homeschooling w the montessori method, as well as leading a montessori co-op. So exciting to see the fruit of all of this!
I would love to have my child in a school like this. sadly there isn't anything like this In my area. Will be praying for guidance of what I should do for when my son reaches school age. please pray for me and my baby.

I suggest that Elisabeth Sullivan from the ICLE ( Institute for Catholic Liberal Education) be interviewed about the renewal of Catholic Liberal Education) in the US ie Catholic Classical Schools …. These schools are countercultural and commited to the cultivation of virtue and wisdom
This was such a great interview. I've been thinking about mynson and a Catholic Centred education. Many Catholic schools miss the mark. May so.ething like this pop up in Sydney Aust. Need to research how to implement this at home.
I am also a Montessori teacher and am curious if your school was converted over to Montessori all at once? Or did you build up from the Casa dei Bambini and add more levels each year? This seems to be the biggest hurdle when starting a Montessori school, because the foundations from Casa are so critical for the later transitions.
I personally don't thinķ children should be indoctrinated into religii on, just like they shouldn't be indoctrinated into political ideology. Wait until they are older, then let them make their own decisions. That's my two cents. I went to a catholic primary school (without the montessori part) and hated every second of it. It left me traumatised and suicidal for years (thanks to JB Peterson for helping me out of it). Of course, not all catholic schools can be that bad, but it's not something I would want for my children. Again, just giving my opinion/experience 😊
